Why should I provide identification?

Because this identification data is worth mre than your BTC, potentially enabling him to regain some of the 4100 BTC lost. Wink

If he is asking for ID there is no fucking way I'd give it to him.   At best, he is an incompetent fool, at worst a scammer.    Not worth your ID obviously.

If it was a larger amount, I'd say report him to the Australian authorities for theft, as well to any Australian financial government agencies for him playing banker with everyone's money.

He doesn't have a leg to stand on.   Demand your refund.

When I filed my claim from the same email address registered, I get the following email:

Why should I provide identification?

Very fishy. How about Tradefortress first provide his identifying information??
