Yep, sounds too good to be true. If I were BFL I'd keep 'm all for myself and make some real bitchin' money!

BFL will be making bitching money by selling these units. Bitcoin mining is small poatoes for those guys. They are going after the big win.

If you have free power, use GPU as there should be a oversupply of used ones coming available (which kind of GPU? AMD for Bitcoin and Nvidia for folding proteins and other HCP). https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ann-coinlab-protected-pool-99643

If not, you can order BFL singles now and upgrade them to ASIC in October for about twice what you pay for a BFL single now http://www.butterflylabs.com/products/

Thanks for the plug!  I was just about to post here.  Smiley

We're offering a guaranteed mining-earnings price floor structured so the sooner you join our pool, the longer you'll be able to continue mining on your GPU profitably after mining earnings drop below costs for other GPU miners.

I'm not looking for reffs here ... just give another options  Wink
You can't compare that pyramining-stuff with mining bitcoins on your own, it's nothing like that.
Basicly you're just giving a loan to someone who's building up a mining-farm and all you get is ~10% (in 6-12months) on that "investment".
Once he has paid back this loan, he has a free mining-farm and you have nothing.

Don't be silly thinking you are the one who's mining there, you're not.

Well, the one your getting is nice because it has sorta of a use, You can heat stuff.

They should make a space heater.  And it is actually very economic friendly.  Profit hopefully.

But, GPU's are very useful also.  You could buy a few good ones people are selling cheap.  It would be a great time to upgrade, and you can also have a spare one mining 24/7.

any other reasons?

That they do not exist?

As of right now, yeah they don't.

Expected release of them are in October if I'm not mistaken.  Just trying to get the best starter rig I can so I can help grow the community.

I've just ordered a Jalapeno and the office girl told me that shipment could be around November.

Damn, I just spent 1.7k on this machine and now I see this?! Seriously? What operating system does it run? Dammit!!

Our pool?  You can use any mining client to connect to it.  To redeem your price floor shares, you'll have to use our custom client (being co-developed with the help of Con Kolivas, creator of cgminer) which will let us do other scientific compute jobs with your GPU if its worth more than Bitcoin.  Our custom client will be released for Windows and Linux.

BFL's?  These aren't computers, they are custom Bitcoin-mining only hardware devices, and as such has custom firmware I believe (not what most would call an OS). I think you might just need a USB and ethernet cable, and should be able to use any computer to configure them, but I've never used one myself.

How soon would each of these options arrive at your door? Basically, the days of mining with gpu are over.

Perhaps a better title for this thread sould be "Comparing BFL jalepeno to ... some unspecified mining rig"?

My current starter build will cost about 600$ USD.  It will mine, hopefully, about 700Mhash/s.  Why wouldn't I go with BFL's ‘Jalapeno’ which, for $149, says 3.5GH/s and buy three of those?

I understand these are ASCI and if a major component changes within bitcoin, these wouldn't be able to adapt, but any other reasons?
