So crimimals stay home and the ai robots drones with them asking them questions watching so they don't brake laws so ai criminal watcher can watch 24/7 it's way more cheaper for some cases then prison
Ai robot can make sure criminal don't interact with other crimimals and don't do anything not legal the robot can check any time the person and asking questions failure to comply the robot Will call police
Your narration sounds like something from a futuristic movie, where robots will take over most of the human tasks. I guess nothing is impossible because science has beat many people's imaginations so far. It wouldn't surprise me in the far future if AI drones will be watching and monitoring convicted criminals from their homes. But seriously if something like that were to happen in the future, I think that it might be only for minor offenders, hardened criminals needs to be kept within the four walls of a prison.

You said that if they don't comply with regulations that the robot will report to the police. So my question to you is what will the police do, since there's no prison to look the criminals up? I believe that the law of putting criminals in prison or "correctional facilities" is what's best for them. It'll serve as a deterant to aspiring criminals, but having robots to be monitoring criminals in the comfort of their homes can make people to feel comfortable commiting crimes.

We haven't determined if Trump's wall to keep the illegals out, was really meant as a prison wall to keep Americans in.

Cool

Please elaborate.
I would not expect you to assume or even suggest the United States is anything related to being a prison or jail for people of slthat citizenship. Why would anyone from the USA need to flee the country in the same manner someone in the middle east would ? Or in the same manner someone from Central America would need to do so?

Too many people out there underestimate the resilience of USA to overcome obstacles and continue to be the leader of the western world.
Not even mention it would be illegal to force American to stay in there against their will, North Korea style.  Tongue

Let me assume that what @BADecker is saying is that Donald Trump was building a wall to stop illegal immigrants from entering the US. But these walls could end up stopping Americans from leaving the country thereby restricting their movement. Many Americans go to neighbouring countries to get cheaper medical care and tourism. Some US citizens also go abroad to visit abortion clinics because of the ban in some states. Regardless of how good the American economy might be citizens will always want the freedom to go in and out of the country without much restrictions.

There are three reasons to send people to prison:
a) To prevent them from doing further damage. A surveillance by drone fails to do that, it cannot stop e.g. someone killing another. Bear in mind that many felons care more about killing that about what happens after to them - not all of them are rational in the common sense.

b) To rehabilitate and provide an alternative life after. A drone could help normalising their lives.

c) To actually punish the individual. It acts as a payback, deterrence for others and a good reason for the person not to want back in. And that is were the system clearly fails: if you can be at home watching NETFLIX or doing stuff or potentially even doing drugs... well, what is the reason no to repeat?

If you've ever seen a criminally insane person whether in real life or on video, you know they couldn't care less if they have a drone and robot watch as they go on their insane rampage. Truly dangerous people don't care if a camera is watching or not. People who are not truly dangerous don't actually belong in prison but rather in rehab. Most people in prison are either a) in there because of a stupid law b) psychotic because they are drug addicts or c) criminally insane for other reasons. So in the end this only resolves people who are in there for reason A because they shouldn't be in there, but the vastly superior solution to reason A would be to end the stupid law of punishing crimes that have no victim, establish rehab centers for lesser crimes of people who can reform, and offer better rehab services in actual prisons and jails.

I don’t think this would work, especially for dangerous criminals. They’d just find a way to disable the robot. Maybe it could work for low level criminals on house arrest but I don’t think we are at a stage with AI robots where this is a possibility in the near future. The sky is the limit with tech though so possibly in the long term future it could happen.

That is quite unrealistic and very far from happening, in my opinion. I understand prisons and jails can be very expensive to keep in the long term, specially if the inmate population of the country is huge, like in the United States. But building, developing and up keeping a literal army of artificial intelligence rebots to watch over criminals sounds like something out of a sci-fi novel...
Before something similar could be viable, AI and robots would need to be massively distributed in developed countries and then go through trials with minor criminals who were released in probation.
Anyways, if this is an alledged solution to save money on keeping prisons running, I am afraid you would still need a mountain of money for something like this to work.
