Does the hdmi port on the mobo (iGPU) output anything if the display output is set to PCI-E in the BIOS? I guess not and I should thank you for your time.
EDIT: So you have the display connected to the mobo now? Which r9 did you connect your monitor when display output was set to PCI-E in BIOS? 16x?

So it appears that the physical connection of a monitor to the integrated GPU through the motherboard hdmi port is determining whether temp monitoring and fan control work?
Have you tried connecting the monitor (or HDTV) to one of the r9's? Have you tried using dummy plugs on the r9's?

I have the monitor connected via VGA. Everything works normally if the display output is set to PCI-E in the BIOS but will result in lower hashrate. I have DVI to VGA adapters and 75 Ohm resistors but I haven't tried them as I don't need to. The BIOS I flashed is overclocked and undervolted. The fan will still adjust accordingly to the fan curve that I set in the BIOS which the core doesn't get over 65 degrees Celsius anyway at 50% fan speed/2000 RPM. Have you tried connecting the monitor (or HDTV) to one of the r9's? Have you tried using dummy plugs on the r9's?

Do you have AMD APP SDK, or AMD ADL SDK installed? What driver version do you have? It all just doesn't make sense.

I understand what you're saying and I don't doubt it. But what is the logic behind not be able to control the r9-s? I can just switch the hdmi cable to one of the r9-s and everything is to be working?

Why is that? I will still have amd app sdk and amd adl sdk, and 13.12 driver installed. Cgminer should be able to monitor temp and control fans, right? What does it matter if the monitor is connected to the integrated graphics or to a dedicated GPU? The dedicated r9 280x's still have drivers and so on.
I start to have a feeling there is something about my planned setup that I don't completely understand.

I am running the G3220, H81 Pro and R9 280Xs. I have set the display output to iGPU which increases the hashrate. Another thing I noticed is the hashrate increase after disabling the CPU power saving C-State. But with the display output set to iGPU, you lose the ability to monitor and control your card's temperature, fan speed, voltage, clock speeds. I got around that by flashing a modded BIOS with custom fan curve, clock speed and voltage.

I don't want to bump this thrread but I have to do it as my parts did start arriving.
Has nobody had any expirience with such a CPU, or similar? A lot of CPU's have integrated graphics. It just sounds like a smart solution to hook up a monitor to the integrated graphics (if the motherboard has a built-in HDMI for it), and use the R9 280x's just for cgminer.

The CPU has integrated graphics and the motherboard has HDMI port which can be used for the integrated graphics in such CPU.
My question is if I can connect my Sony HDTV to that HDMI port and use the 4 R9 280x's just for cgminer. What problems could arise, regarding the number of GPU's Windows can recognise, and if it will be possible to add 2 more GPU's at a later time?
