I am heartbroken now by Hampz words + this design.  Well done! I agree with Hampz, you should really pursue having some chips made up.  I hope Satori at the very least changes up the color.  IMO a small change in design would be good for them, their brand, desirability, and long term collector value.  Markets are flooded with orange chips now..change is good.

Thanks for the kind words ChiBitCTy, I really appreciate it.

As I said, I'm pretty unfamiliar with these chips, but thought I would give it a go. I'll have a look into the process of getting some produced if there is interest. Or if anyone would like to assist with the process that would be awesome!

Take care,

-Untold

These chips are pretty cool. I would definitely be interested if you decide to produce some. It seems you would just need to buy the chips and make two really cool holograms, one for each side, and you'd have your coins. I'd be happy to assist if I can.

Take a close look at a Satori chip. Better yet use the serial number and website to look up the public key. You can add more bitcoin to a Satori chip once you have the public key if you want BTW. Just noting there is a lot more work involved than just slapping two holograms on a poker chip. You basically would have to reproduce what Satori and BTCC have done. Not saying it can't be done but it would be a challenging project and you also have to worry about not infringing on any patents the other companies may have.

I think you're completely right. It's definitely more complex than just slapping two holograms onto a chip, what I meant to say with that comment was that It's also not impossible to do and meant to encourage Untold to go ahead and with what could be a really cool project.

Have a hard time believing the dream for a custom is dead.  The buyers are here and the L.N . seems to be working in our favor and should only make things that much easier/better/more likely/etc when the time comes.  Of course I'm not looped in like Hampz and look forward to hearing more from him.  Glass half full for once here.

Satori seems to be going through some growing pains as they became more popular but high transaction fees are a problem for them loading .001 chips. I think they will work out the kinks just take some time. They may have to go to .002 - .003 chips, or even consider Litecoin instead of Bitcoin chips. They are certainly successful so far and a smart business so they will find a way IMO.

Id actually welcome a .002 or .005 chip.  I like the btcc multi denomination chips and i think im not speaking alone to say they would sell fairly easily maybe not in the boatloads as they have but definately a fair share.  Has anyone approached them about multi-denom?

Agreed, nice work Untold and it'd be cool to see these go further into the production stage.   Grin

Sorry for the slow update guys! I've been reading what you've talked about and I agree with most of you Cheesy.

As of right now this project is put on ice.. Moto has asked for my patience as they are working on a lot of things over there and can't focus on this right now.

As for the custom chip, it is also looking like we can't do what we want with it, some guidelines have to be followed as using the same hologram (front might be able to change slightly) and then only changing the color of the chips without adding/removing any elements. We'll see what happens but as of now, no custom chips are going in to production in the near future..

Thanks for the update Hhampuz, I thought they might have quite strict guidelines in terms of the design of the tokens, but will watch this thread to see if this changes in the future.

Take care,

-Untold

Hey Untold, not sure if I ever replied to your PM (Sorry about that if I didn't). I love your chip design but I would almost think that it is worth pursuing that as your own thing, I'm sure it would sell if you were to make it!

Will keep you, and everyone else, updated on any progress made Smiley

Thanks Hhampuz,

No worries at all, I appreciate you taking the time to reply to me here!

I ended up doing an additional design (the one I sent you was a quick test), thanks for the kind words, I would love to explore the idea of creating a custom token, but seems super daunting!

Anyway, here is the design I made, and I look forward to any updates Smiley.

The last group buy was for 214 rolls. With Satori limiting to maximum 100 rolls order per person now we will be fortunate if Hhampuz wants to do another group buy for the next batch from Satori. It sounds like custom coins are way in the future if ever.

From the Satori website:

When our stock depleted in late January, we announced that we will resume sale on Feb 12. But we are afraid to say, we are going to delay the resuming date. The reason is this.

As you know by now, Coincheck hack problem arose. Our decision to originally use Coincheck payment service was for our accounting management purpose, to avoid the complex BTC/USD/YEN calculation burden. But to this date, we cannot retrieve our BTC .... Alas, everyone, please learn from our mistake !

So, we need to introduce a new set up and implementing that is going to take another week or two. We are sorry to keep you all waiting. As soon as we are ready, we will re-announce.

Now please take note in that when we resume, in order to serve as many people as possible, there will be a 100 pcs purchase quota limit per person. We cannot accept orders above 100 pcs. We expect to make close to 3,000 pcs.

Lastly, we previously indicated that after this lot, we expect to cease sale for a prolonged period (due to high transaction fee preventing us from manufacturing at a sensible cost). The good news is that lately, the transaction fee has come down drastically. Preparation to fully restock will still take a few months and we cannot promise any dates, but things are starting to look promising.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding.

@Hhampuz does this mean no more group buys or custom designed Satori Coin for some extended time?

Seems that way, party over....

We've got a lot of options/opinions for designs and none of them seem able to be written off immediately.  If they could be mockedup and vote out, maybe not for a difinitive design, but to narrow it down to say tio 3-5 & then democracy vote for final design, perhaps thatll work.    IM strongly against "taking a casino design and slapping a BTC on it"  too lazy.

I'm not an artist/graphic designer and there are some very cool designs, and I'm not saying I wouldn't change a few things either.  It's not about being lazy.  Plus it's going to be voted on.

My wording was crude.  Taking a chp from say Harrah's and slapping a BTC in the middle is lazy. Im no artist or designer, I know this isnt a quick process, just voicing my opinion and seeing if it weeds out any forward progress. Taking a satori coin and changing it maintains brand. I like that idea. maybe I shouldnt have paid attention in business shool, idk.
Business management degree myself..I paid attention too and I got you..I didn't lay it out very clearly what I meant so you were going off a vague statement.  I looked at, at least a 1000 chips and found a few I loved and got ideas on how to change them up.  I'm currently designing a coin to bring here and have some decent ideas..just no artistic ability of any kind to put them on paper or pc (just stuck in my head lol)

"Hampz why did you want to make this all about BTC chips"  Meant to say *BCT.  Fail. lol  Cheesy

In reference to BTCC - I think the Green would look sharp with black BTC logos.  The blue would be better with a platinum/silver color for the BTC.

May have to take what you can get. From the company website:

Quote
・Sale resuming date: February 12 Monday (Japan standard time)

・Important: There will only be about 3,000 pcs made for sale. After this lot, we expect to cease sale for at least 3 months or more. It is becoming ever more difficult to load value at low transaction fee. It makes no sense to manufacture a 0.001BTC coin with the fee being just as high as that amount. We are continually trying various techniques to load a large quantity at low fee and we hope we will be able to achieve in the near future.

As for color combinations it is interesting to look at what BTCC has used:

If you are ordering in bulk loaded 0.002 or more may get preferential treatment? Just a thought. However it sounds like they are going to make one last production run of 0.001 chips; @Hhampuz should know more since he is the one talking to the company.

Yeah, Moto told me that they'd get a small batch in shortly but apparently some of it is already sold just waiting to get shipped. And yeah Moto has told me for a while now about the difficulties with loading 0.001BTC per chip. Last we spoke he was unsure if they'd even make any more satoris in the next 6-8 months.. So I'd assume that he would prefer to load them with more than 0.001 if we were to make a custom chip.

I also really like the colors on the BTCC chips, but I don't think we want to make ours too close to them, as that could perhaps also stir up some troubles Cheesy.

As for how far we'll go with the design, I'm also thinking that we might just change the colors a bit, I also believe we could change the front of the hologram, not the back, and that is where it could get interesting.

Just for info, what was that previous "bitcointalk coin" that was made ? What happened ?

There's been a lot of things happening around that line of coins, short summary:

Its a sham.
Its a shame.

The supreme series background printing of the BTC logo really does look striking in person.

I agree. It is one of my all time favorite coins.  I am just thrilled I was able to get two sets.  Woulda been nice to get all the chip sets I payed for but whatever.

Ahh I wasn't even thinking about those coins as being representative of the forum.  There seemed to be a lot of issues around order fulfillment and I'm glad I didn't deal with that, sad indeed.

I agree with a lot of what Tickld said  Wink   I am simply not crazy about the shiny/glossy messy looking front.  It's too busy IMO.  I like the more simplistic but "professional" look of BTCC chips.  I really dig how they have the BTC all around the border.  Since I have no artistic ability and not going to pay a graphic designer I found there's a lot of great casino chip examples in which if you simply swap the casino name for BTC it'd look great.

Hampz why did you want this to be all about BTC again??  Cheesy Cheesy Grin

Interested in a bundle of em. I see a graphic someone posted in thread, and unfortunately, my color of choice is not there. Purple. Purple just jives with orange so well. Next choice would be Blue (bluechip stocks anyone) & it also is a good counter color to orange.  As for the design... I'm no designer, but my preference would be to bastardize their current design in a minor manner. I actually really like the holo (reflects interestingly at different angles in the light) and the front side, I certainly wouldnt remove the moto "value doesnt exist outside the consciousness of man"  (I might be off, didnt check).  The rest of the design is up for debate, though I also like the interlaced different color circles encompassing the BTC in the center. Alter the colorway perhaps.  same with the red ziggy zaggy.

If we wanted to appeal broadly, keeping changes minor like this, but visually appealing/impacting seems to be 1. the route of least resistance to reach consensus among us, and 2. maintains brand identity/recognition. Custom is good, but exclusive isnt inclusive and thus could be viewed negatively a la the old guys country club. & 3. require the least alterations of their current process.

If we opted to go a route like this, securing their current image docs and working off of those would go a long way for ease, if they're open to it.

That'd be awesome to have different colors. Smiley
You can already count me in the next GB if you chose to handle it ! Cheesy

Just for info, what was that previous "bitcointalk coin" that was made ?
What happened ?

I don't know why a lot of you are assuming it will have something to do with bitcointalk Cheesy.. I didn't mention anything of it in the OP, did I?

We'll just have people here come up with designs and then we vote, that's all Smiley

It sounded like that was the direction it was headed but in any case I'd like to see these prospective designs being whipped up and voted on!  Grin

If this is going forward what will be the deadline for submissions?

Hhampuz your looking at it wrong you shouldn't put bitcointalk on there , should just make it a different design yes but not forum related

I think this is a great idea, and I'd love to be a part of it.  The only caution I would say is to not deviate too much from the original design because we will never agree on a right approach, and it will only prolong the ordering process.

Just the thought of having a different color satori coin would be worth pursuing, IMO.  It would certainly offer a special premium for not being a traditional orange Satori.

Sounds interesting and I'll be watching to see how this plays out.  I'm on the fence about the idea if it's forum related but I think it will come down to the design and execution.

I agree that BCT shouldn’t have a part on the chip itself. I feel like this is for us like Hampz said, but also I’d like to be able to gift these like I have been and if I weren’t a user here I’d want nothing to do with BTC on my coin.  A small hidden mark wouldn’t be bad tho if some really wanted it.

My vote is for a brand new front.

Hmmm The last "Forum coin" was a big success ... oh wait...

I agree with you on this.
The forum is such a smart part of the bitcoin/crypto ecosystem. By making a chip that is specific to this "forum bubble", we are excluding the rest of crypto.
So many people stay away from here because of  the so called "toxic" environment not to mention the people who don't like theymos for whatever their reason.
You need to think on a larger scale... the 50 or so collectors here are great, but you need to make your product appeal to a wider audience and you will get a much better reception.

Based on previous item that were forum-centric, I would advise to stay away from this branding....
but then again what do I know  Tongue

Fair points. But then again I don't see this as creating a product for the purpose of reaching a broader audience.. This would be our own Satori Chip and I'm sure most of the people here would keep theirs, not try and flip them somewhere else.. The people that took part in the Satori GB's were all from here, none from the outside Cheesy

Yes it can originate here but i would definately sell to a larger audience past here.  4-6 years ago yes it was basically here and a couple other small spots but the whole point is to further the reach of crypto.  A unique piece from satori would be great to give/sell to an audience that doesnt "live" here

How would this work H ?

What are the minimum numbers of chips
Would there be a fee for the 'custom chip manufacturing setup', the holos and chips (I guess fiat denominated), plus funding (BTC denom'd)

I am assuming the closest we stick to their original chip design the better, costwise (maybe just a different colour ?).
Unsure how it would work on the holos ? would they be a different holo ? would the numbering start from 1 ? Is a design needed for this ?

Elephant in the room. Funding

I am guessing that Satori wont start a custom chip, without at least that FIAT denominated amount. So I am assuming there would be a need for pre ordering

Possibly the chip funding amounts could happen nearer shipping time. Do we know a lead time (estimate) from order to shipping

As of now Moto would get to work on answering all of these questions actually, he told me to give him 1-2 weeks and then he'd have a rough draft for me on all of the numbers.

I believe it is possible to change the front of the hologram, not the back. Other than that I really am as clueless as the rest of you guys Cheesy

Yeah i would stay away from bitcointalk.org focused chip but i dont think that was the intention viz, i think it was to secure the idea for the required moq and see if some people here can strum up some design ideas.  If thats the case then im in, only if they are loaded, there arent many people selling loaded coins/chips these days.  Id say a submit your design people who commited funds vote on design and go forward.  Im in depending on pricing.

I think it would be a very good idea if we put killyou72 in charge of the design.

I would be honored, I think this graphic designer chick thinks I am dating her so I will ask her to help me  Cool

You can feel free to submit your design just like anyone else, you won't be in charge of designing this thing though Cheesy

What if my design wins?

Then it wins?

Then I would be in charge of the design, right?

In the unlikely case that your design were to win, then it would be used to create the custom chips, yes.

Funded same design as now but 0.002 instead of 0.001, custom colors that really pop. Maybe lime green instead of the white stripes and purple instead of orange. Color choices probably limited by how the chips are manufactured.

Hell yes Hampz!

-The design submission/vote is exactly what I had in mind.  I think the denomination is good at .001BTC

Nice work!

Yeah I think that'd be the best way to go for it (just don't try and buy votes with merit) Grin.

Yeah I'm liking the 0.001BTC denomination as well, however Moto told me that they've run in to some issues when it comes to loading all the chips with that amount.. So I'll keep you all posted on what he has to say about it Smiley

So I've been talking to Moto over on Satoricoin regarding making our own custom designed Satori Coin that'd be exclusively made for us here on the forum.

Last I heard he'd need some time to figure out pricing etc. so I'd like to get some ideas from you guys.. What kind of design should we go for? I'd suggest people can submit their design and then we'll open a poll to vote on them (I'll take care of it, no worries).

Also, should they be funded or unfunded? What kind of denom. if they are funded?

Let me know what you guys think and we can make it happen Smiley
