I don't think an application that asks users for identity and focuses on a specific country is capable of being the second most downloaded application in iOS or Android.
People are willing to share their identity for basically any shitty exchange that there is or do KYC without thinking twice, so why are you surprised that they are willing to do that for Coinbase, which is one the most reputable exchange that there is? I am not surprised at all.

There's been a lot of hype around Coinbase stock listing, so obviously many decided to check what's going on. In the end, it can only be a good thing for crypto.

On what basis was Coinbase App Ranking? Is it on the basis of downloads, active users, increased numbers of users, the United States, or global?
(....)
It is probably by downloads, as a significant amount of downloads within a particular day/s. I believe there is some algorithm they are using to show the top list on their AppStore or even in google playstore.

This is very big for cryptocurrency, it is kinda an advertisement, a lot of people will start curious about cryptocurrency especially if they will start using Coinbase .

I am very surprised by this ranking. I have downloaded the Coinbase App first than Binance and I am using Binance several times a week. In fact, I have never used Coinbase, I am not going to deactivate it from my phone so I can take a look at it and see its benefits in where is it so good?
Android users comment on some good things, however they emphasize the high transaction fees.

It's because Coinbase's audience is mostly focused on people residing in the United States, so there's definitely a good chance that if you aren't from there, that you haven't even used or downloaded it; whereas Binance is international.

It shows that ipo worked so good for Coinbase but we can not see this for the price.

People just bought the rumor and now they are selling the news Smiley

I wouldn’t be surprised if coinbase paid Apple for that #2 ranking on App Store. It’s still good for crypto overall but still

I know of promoted content on app stores but don't know if they did paid listing. I just know that since coinbase is an extremely popular app that is why it's not so surprising to see them achieve such a feat after their listing on both app stores. It's like the #1 crypto app for years now on app stores at the moment during to their premium-like service offerings especially to retail and mainstream investors and users. Even in terms of usage, it's a top app.

While I'm not saying that they didn't(though I doubt it, who knows?), it really isn't that farfetched for Coinbase to be a top-ranking app. I mean, the company has freakin 6.1 million monthly active users as per their recent Earnings Call[1].

-- iOS --
April 1st, 2021 (pre-listing): Coinbase ranked at #147
April 17th, 2021 (after-listing): Coinbase ranked at #2

-- Android --
April 1st, 2021 (pre-listing): Coinbase ranked at #186

So if you're wondering if the Coinbase stock listing was good for Bitcoin, the answer is yes.

Also, Fun fact: Coinbase applied for a direct listing, not an IPO.
