I actually used to use them as it was very quick withdrawing USD to my Dwolla account and I would have them in my bank the next day always. (as opposed to Mtgox taking forever!) I don't cash out many BTC anyway but on the ocassion I wanted to it was quick and easy.
Just didn't know it was to this point and found it interesting.

The intersango USD market has been too small to be viable for a while now. I was running a bot that did arbitrage between different markets and anything in intersango USD just tended to sit there not doing anything. There was no point holding resources there, so I moved out of it a while ago. The announcement did make me cash out my last $0.02, though. Lucky escape!

Intersango's USD market will stop trading 2012-10-14 at approximately midnight UTC.

At this time we ask that persons with USD funds either place a withdrawal request or purchase bitcoins.

To facilitate persons wishing to purchase bitcoins Intersango has placed 625 BTC up for sale at 12.1 USD.

Unfortunately the USD market is simply too small to justify it's ongoing operation.
