If it were you, which sentence would you use to introduce Bitcoin? Grin

Bitcoin can be best describe in various ways depending on your audience but a general introduction would be, 'Bitcoin is decentralized money/currency'. Then you can go on to explaining what you meant by decentralized but they should already get the concept of what you meant since the world decentralized is quite easy to understand. You can then go on to lecture them on how centralized the traditional fiat is and give examples on how your asset can be frozen by the government fie their selfish reason but such can't be possible on the Bitcoin network.

Bitcoin is first a currency before an investment, you should always make this clear to your audience because Bitcoin seems to be losing its currency features and been turned fully into an investment vehicle, which isn't entirely bad but I think that's defeating the main idea behind the creation of the currency in the first place. Satoshi needed a system that'll be full proof from centralized operation and to become a global currency for business operations, Bitcoin is yet to achieve that but it's already been seen as an investment vehicle globally.

I can say it in one sentence like bitcoin is the future, bitcoin is a cryptocurrency which means digital currency or money and cannot tampered like the posts from forum users who replied here but if you say it on a newbie, I doubt they won't understand it yet and I'd rather explained or teach them what it bitcoin but for some who knows a little bit of bitcoin then one sentence is enough. Though this one could also work for newbies, bitcoin is volatile that you can gain profit or lose on how you manage it as Peanutswar's stated.

It all depends with the audience of course  but the old definition like bitcoin is digital gold does it for me as it's self explanatory,  you don't need to explain yourself to questions like does bitcoin have a physical form of being a coin which is an impression it gives to many....the Digital  part of the definition takes care of that.

For others I would introduce bitcoin  to them as it being internet money that is not under the control of a single government but influenced by its users.

Hello, I'm new here. Your advice are most welcome.(The search function of the forum doesn't seem to work well.I can't find what I want. Maybe I can't use it.)

I have been trading Bitcoin for two years and am a speculator.

The income in the past two years is not as much as that of a friend of mine. He is a believer and holder of Bitcoin. I decided to change from a speculator to a firm believer. So come to this forum -- this is the gathering place of Bitcoin believers.

In the past two years, I have met many people who don't understand Bitcoin and asked me what it is. They asked me to introduce Bitcoin in one sentence or give him a reason to buy it.

I said, Bitcoin is the king,

Bitcoin is electronically protected or encrypted,

Bitcoin may be a currency of the future.

With bitcoin, you have the future.

If you don't buy it now, it will be the most regretful thing in 10 years.

Some friends bought it, but sold it without profit in the short term. Of course, several friends have been holding it and began to understand the history of Bitcoin.

If it were you, which sentence would you use to introduce Bitcoin? Grin

I will say "Bitcoin may be a currency of the future".

Bitcoin is a virtual or digital currency that is usually used for virtual transactions. It may be replaced Fiat in the future. It is Built on blockchain technology.

Bitcoin is an entry point for many people to get to know decentralized technology. The concept of decentralized technology brought by blockchain, allows each server to be connected and have the same role. By establishing a kind of peer-to-peer network, sending digital currency will be the same as sending an email because there is no longer a central bank to mediate transactions.

Cryptocurrency is decentralized, meaning that as a system, the overall decision-making is left to the users of the system without one individual being able to impose his will on other individuals without the consent of the majority of system users. In contrast to Fiat, which is centralized, there is an authority that regulates, creates, and monitors the circulation of money. Most of the financial transactions that exist today also involve at least one-third party, such as a bank, who will audit and keep all transaction and regulatory details.

Cryptocurrency is a result of the combination of the fiat monetary system with digital technology. In practice, cryptocurrency knows no national or regional boundaries. If people agree to use this cryptocurrency, then the transaction can be done.

It depends who you are talking with if you are stating the bitcoin to the newbies curious about bitcoin and want to join with I will give this statement. Bitcoin is a volatile coin that can give you a profit and loss depends on how you manage. But if I'm talking about a person who knows bitcoin and just want to know my side of what it is this is my statement. Bitcoin is a decentralized coin which all of the transactions are stored in a secured block with connected into the other blocks and called as blockchain this coin is one of the most known and profitable coins where you can invest to consider it you need to know the different market graph and technical indicators.

Bitcoin is too complex to be introduced by just one sentence. It works differently when defining it to an individual wherein you will need to take consideration on that certain person's current knowledge about bitcoin. May it be that they already know about it or they are completely ignorant when it comes to bitcoin. Nevertheless, if I would be given a chance to define it to a person, I will describe it to them to the point that they will get curious and crave for more data about it. I would say to them that: Bitcoin is the future and if you don't want to regret soon, start investing on it now.

Neither.

Bitcoin is the king,
Assuming they have no idea about the cryptocurrency space in general, Bitcoin being "king" is meaningless.

Bitcoin is electronically protected or encrypted,
Not everyone knows what "encrypted" is.

Bitcoin may be a currency of the future.
Not super bad, but not a fan. Probably good enough if you can explain to them why.

With bitcoin, you have the future.
Sounds scammy.

If you don't buy it now, it will be the most regretful thing in 10 years.
Sounds scammy.

Maybe focus on explaining the things that Bitcoin fixes instead, rather than specifically pitching an investment like a salesman.

mk4 has highlighted something here, we try to explain Bitcoin to people we think
will understand our language, the terms and phrases, the chances are they cannot
comprehend the message.

What about:

"Bitcoin is a bank in cyberspace, run by incorruptible software, offering a global,
affordable, simple, & secure savings account to billions of people that don’t have the option or desire
to run their own hedge fund.

Its so out there I think its designed to trick people into trying to find out more
about this thing called Bitcoin.

A string of codes that can change the world's currency has attracted nearly tens of millions of people and investment institutions around the world to become believers in Bitcoin.
Get to know Bitcoin right away, otherwise you may be a little sad someday in the future.

For someone who's not even familiar with Bitcoin, this explanation can come off as sales pitch, giving the wrong impression that you are trying to sell something.
In my opinion, this approach is wrong. Bitcoin is not a pyramid scheme or an MLM.

The market is full of discussions about the development of Bitcoin and blockchain technology, both good and bad. Proponents say that blockchain technology is Internet 2.0, and compare it to the Internet 20 years ago. They believe that blockchain, like the Internet in those days, will in the future give birth to capable and capable companies such as Google, Facebook, Amazon, Apple, and Netflix. An epoch-making company whose magic power has rewritten the global economy, culture, civilization and even daily habits; opponents regard it as a fantasy, a scam of the century, a gospel of criminals, and even a regression in currency, trade, and even economic development.

The following are excerpts from some world-class celebrities about Bitcoin and blockchain technology:
1.Warren Buffett: Stay away from it (Bitcoin), this is a mirage. I’m basically certain that most cryptocurrencies have terrible endings in the end.

2.Bill Gates: Bitcoin is a high achievement in the development of science and technology.

3.The famous American TV host Stephen Colbert Stephen Colbert: This is the gold of fools.

4.Google CEO Eric Schmidt (Eric Schmidt): Bitcoin is an outstanding achievement in cryptography. This thing that cannot be copied in the electronic world is an invention of great significance and value.

5.Computer security software leader McAfee founder John Mcafee (John Mcafee): You can't stop things like Bitcoin. It is everywhere, the world will change because of it, and global governments will also change because of it.

6.Galaxy Digital Assets hedge fund manager Mike Novogratz (Mike Novogratz): I invest 10% of my assets in this area.

7.Jeffrey Gundlach, CEO and Chief Investment Advisor of DoubleLine Capital: Maybe I am too old, and I decided not to participate in this craze.

What's interesting is that the above extremely divergent opinions come from business leaders who are not so good in all aspects of education, business experience, status, and international perspective.

I prefer to try, and hook people into the idea that Bitcoin could potentially change their life rather than explaining Bitcoin on the spot. Bitcoin, isn't something that you could explain to a person new to the concept within a few sentences. Just look at the responses here, and see for yourself; If you are new, and want to learn about Bitcoin, you have to avoid jargon. However, that's not an easy task. Unfortunately, Bitcoin is quite technical, and there is no other words for certain concepts. For example, when you try to explain mining to someone, and they ask, but how does difficulty work, your probably going to mention the fact that Bitcoin uses Proof Of Work, and then you have to explain that. Its impossible to explain within a sentence.

Instead, tell them something along the lines of this; Bitcoin will not only change your life, but change the entire worlds. Are you willing to put in the time to learn about it to get ahead of the curve?

Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System

That was a few narratives ago and pre-2017 thinking. From 2017-2021 it was digital gold or a store of value. That narrative has switched again as the market is trying to aim at a larger target to justify a higher valuation. The new narrative is that Bitcoin is digital real estate, which is what they’ll need to sell it as in order to reach valuations of over a million dollars per BTC.

It's funny how they try to find utility for it when the the whitepaper clearly says what it should be. But gold or real estate sound better than cash.

How can you introduce bitcoin to a numb in one sentence? The numb still won't understand and would need some more explanation so, left for me, I just think, one who wants to get know or invest in bitcoin is hardly to get anywhere with one sentence so, you say something that could burst his or her curiosity and eventually interest by looking more at the potentials. I'm sure most users on the forum registered because of what they hope to earn BTC and as such, we have a lot of curious newbies on what to do to earn. Same can work for someone with a one sentence into on there mind.

My friends and family, especially my father, can't understand me replacing money with a string of symbols
They probably never will, so don't be hard on yourself because of that. On my father's birthday, I bought him an easy to understand book explaining the basics of Bitcoin. He read a few pages and never finished it. When some people get to a certain age, they lose the willingness to adopt new knowledge and change. He has been working in the banking and IT sector, has never had nasty experiences when it comes to banks and his financials, and he simply doesn't see why he should abandon a system that has worked well for him personally all his life.

When we are on the subject of explaining Bitcoin, I would say that it's a technological breakthrough comparable to the Internet and Email of the 90s. Bitcoin is the first and most successful implementation of a tech known as blockchain that has no centralized authority, allows you to control how and where you send and store your money without answering to anyone else.

First and last,  you have to  distinguish between Bitcoin and bitcoin.
Did you by any chance see my thread Do you know the difference between Bitcoin and bitcoin?  Wink

If it were you, which sentence would you use to introduce Bitcoin? Grin

I like the one by Steven Dryall:
"Bitcoin is digital money that is tamperproof and openly traded."

Like Steven said, the three points are very precise, accurate and create immediate understanding of the entire concept. Any subsequent questions will lead to further exploration personalized to the listener's information needs.

Bitcoin in one sentence for me goes like this:

Bitcoin is the first and last cryptocurrency will be known majorly. (cause I believe in 10 years the price of coin will still be in good stance considering we are going to a modern and highly technological era).

Yes there is a future but dont get your hopes on it alone. Its a speculative digital asset and anything could go wrong in a blink of an eye.

My friends and family, especially my father, can't understand me replacing money with a string of symbols

Tell them it's return is more than your bank's interest and they will surely understand the shit out of Bitcoin. Smiley

It's one of the largest networks based on computing power at 90+ exahashes.

It's a way of sending money anywhere in the world within an hour or two (at most) - incurring very low fees.

It could be the precursor or something that is actually able to do what debit cards did 30+ years ago.

Thank you for your professional answer, which is more technical and reliable than mine.

Bitcoin is electronically protected or encrypted
Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency so it is cryptographically protected. You can encrypt your wallet file to have a second layer of protection.

Bitcoin may be a currency of the future.
Bitcoin can be a currency, asset of storage, but the best is Bitcoin is Bitcoin. You can use it as anything you want because you control your Bitcoin, control your Bitcoin transactions with support of miners for confirmations.

With bitcoin, you have the future.
With Bitcoin, you have your own bank if you use non custodial wallets. Recommended wallets. You can use Bitcoin Core, Electrum, Wasabi wallet.
