Your goal is to determine what kind of investment you want to invest in. Do you plan on buying your coin until it increases in value for the purpose of stocking it? or Your investment is likely based on trading and profiting from the different movements in the market? or

Are you planning on stalking the coin and making a profit as the investment progresses? Whatever it is, it certainly ends in profit and it depends with which platform you invest with so, being curious is the right step to go about it, but then, if you are inexperienced on either of the above, it is essential that you understand the concepts of either investment you choose, but if you should want to stalk your coin, its best you can use a wallet and Luno wallet can help you do that, want to trade your coin, the most reliable is the Binance exchange, want to stalk your coin, I haven't been really involved with this one, I'm still researching it so, I can't say much about it because it's also a work in progress for me.

1. Start slow, if you have $10000 only invest $1000 for the first 6 months. It’s gonna be hard but you will learn a lot and still won’t be enough
It is not about starting slow (of the initial funds to invest). But, it's more to invest whatever amount you can invest and ready for the risks to lose.
The nominal of everybody's ready to lose may be different.
And, it is better to distinguish the funds into some trusted top coin, so never put only in one coin.

2. Have good role models! And take advice from them , if they are  successful  they must be doing something right, don’t just blindly listen to gurus and Twitter feed, unless the person twitting is someone big
Do you think they will really give you the exact advice? There may be someone that is very kind doing that but be careful, don't believe 100% of what they are saying, better to continue by your own research, make their advice as one of the considerations and lessons to learn.
And believing person twitting is someone big?
Be careful because you may only follow the hype or Fomo without analyzing the market, and then you might only buy at the top and the price can down so easily.

3...
Investment is more to be ready for our emotional management (not only fear). It is complex to say about emotion, there may be panic, carelessness, FOMO, and others.
NEWS are a big part of investing, this may be part of fundamental things that influence the investment, but we need to analyze more, not only based on that big news.

Then, if it is about investing in new projects, you must be ready to lose them because most new projects will not be worthy and you must be smart to analyze them.
If you are a newbie, it is better to invest in top coins, to minimize the risks.

Beginner gives advice to beginner. Tongue Tongue
Advice is easy when it is not related to you, when you start to invest and earn profits, greed will chase you, and when you make losses, you will be afraid of losing money.
Investing needs knowledge, knowledge requires research, not emotions.
Search, search, search, and invest. If you don't search, don't invest.
Do not ignore other people's losses.
Ranks here doesn't define if you are a professional trader or not.  Tongue

Anyway, I think OP is just starting to invest and learned a few knowledge about the pros and cons of how he would manage his investment in the future. That's why he's sharing it here with the others but it would be beneficial if he would just ask someone here how he would minimize the risk of investment and at the same time many beginners would find it helpful if someone would start to share their knowledge.

But there are different investment strategy thread on this platform and you only need to do is to search. And I agree with your point that if you don't know what you are investing because you lack of knowledge then don't invest, they will only fall to the same fate of those who don't have the right knowledge.

I wouldn't advice newbies to have a role model or expert they follow on social media or take advice from, most times things always get skewed when you take crypto advice from people on social media, not only that there are quite a lot of impersonators, you have to keep it in mind that the 'experts' account could also be hacked, as has happened so many times in the past and of late, hence people can easily get scammed, mostly through giveaway scams, since they'll not verify and just trust their 'expert'; doing your own research is much more rewarding.

Imo, I think this topic fits better in Trading Discussion: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=8.0

Your starting point is wrong, for beginners investing at all shouldn't be the first priority, how can a beginner know the difference from a bad project and good project? Beginners need to learn how what makes a project stands out among others before taking risks with their money

What if person is 'investment' beginner? What op said is true imo, you should rather learn your lessons with $1k then going all in, plus when money is involved you rather learn those lessons faster.

8. LIKE I SAID, use $1000 for the first minimum 6 months to play around, then you can dollar cost average with the remainder 9000,
This varies to the capacity of the beginners. You can actually invest as low as you can and play it around until you've managed to develop yourself and gaining experience through investing in cryptocurrencies. If you want to be a day trader, you can also do that with the lowest that you can. It's just all about the learning and experience to be familiarized with the ups and downs of the market. $1000 may be that big for others and there are those who can't afford it.

Correcting some points for a more advisable ideas to beginners.

1. Start slow, if you have $10000 only invest $1000 for the first 6 months. It’s gonna be hard but you will learn a lot and still won’t be enough
  • Start whenever you are ready or start to be ready. The amount of investment doesn't really matter as long as you are ready and willing to let your money lose. Investment is not a race, you can invest just a single penny on any crypto and still profit in it.

2. Have good role models ! And take advice from them , if they are  successful  they must be doing something right, don’t just blindly listen to gurus and Twitter feed, unless the person twitting is someone big
  • Sometimes, letting yourself to undergo each and every hard takes in life would give you your very own unique success. And most of the times, working hard to make yourself a role model of your own is the best. Study well about investments, trading, andd such stuff, so you could have your own analysis and be your own model.

3. Investing should not be about fear ! If you are unsure about a investment , it’s because you don’t understand the investment enough, NEWS are a big part of investing , if there are lots of comments and tweets about a project and lots of comments about 10x or 100x maybe don’t take the comment seriously be try to understand why people are commenting such things like what news just come about
  • Just to add. Investing must not also be a risk you can just instantly take, hence whether you fear or not, precaution is still advised.

4. Again luck plays a crucial role in some investment , that is part of LIFE but you shouldn’t think of investing that way, if you really understand a project and 6 months will be a lot of time to have a couple project in mind, you can the dollar cost average into your project with the $9000 that you have,
  • Understanding a project isn't always turns onto success. It's still better to research further and have a constant update with the project you invested. One must not wait for 6months for his money to grow without constantly reading updates from it. One day you might miss that the project already has a huge flaw.

5. After 6 months you will have maybe 3 projects in mind so you can weekly put in little money weekly or monthly, this should take 6-12 months to dollar cost average,
  • Again, there can be changes that could happen in 6 months. investing too much on many projects isn't bad, yet you must trail each and every progress so that you wouldn't invest just because you wanted to make it your weekly/monthly habit.

6. YES you will have emotional and sometimes try to put the whole $9000 in 1 go, but trust me , most successful investor have KNOWLEDGE, maybe play around with the 1000, but don’t ever touch the 9000 that you are buying with weekly,
  • Nope! You shouldn't and must never be emotional in investing. Again, I've stated at the first correction that one investor must be ready, knowledgeable, and prepared for the loses with the risks he will take. Never ever have a habit of investing weekly just because you can, investment is never meant to be some rich kids habit. DYOR is still a must.

7. If you manage to lose the $9000 it’s not GAME over, if you have a decent job weekly keep buying your investment
  • Money management! You shouldn't just let yourself lose 9000USD just for a fact that you have a decent job and would still continue using your salary for investment. It is better to have it divided, and not all to be settled in investments. Make it just a quarter or a half of your salary, but never invest on more than that.

8. LIKE I SAID, use $1000 for the first minimum 6 months to play around, then you can dollar cost average with the remainder 9000,
  • Like I said also, just use any amount as long as you are ready and willing to take the risks.

This is just my insights with your suggestions. I guess it would help other readers as well to what investing must be in different stories of users. Yes, I know that you are a beginner wanting to advice others. But investment is a different matter, beginner or not, everyone must be cautious and ready on what they would be bumping into. Not all beginners are rich, hence they might take your suggestions to be their primary reason to jump right onto investing.

Different pairings ! As you know you can look at charts in relative to mostly BTC/Alts Eth/alts usdt/alts and money more, when you understand how the money flows in crypto , just because your coins isn’t moving in usdt doesn’t mean it’s not moving relative to BTC alts and bitcoin correlate but not the same, so look at multiple charts with the same coin and based your decision

Another advice, Have a time frame ! Don’t just think in hours or days think in MONTHS when you look at your calendar in months little dips aren’t going to effect you that much, keep averaging and have months as your time frame, if you really believe in the project and it dips , just ask yourself do you see this project make a come back in few months ?

Since I am a new member, I do not want to harm anyone. Of course I think I want to tell those who invest. Investing in you without a good site or a good subject can be a very big kind of person for you.  I think your currencies are more likely to be safe if you know about it from a good forum.

I think there are new members who want to work by investing. We need to help them. If they invest in a place where they don't get their money anymore and if they invest in a place where they can earn good money, I think those who have experts have an opinion.  Can give to newcomers can help newcomers I think they will never wear in Los
Are you mean of some self proclaimed experts/investors/traders on youtube or an article? Most of them only shills their service/coin, it's useless and only wasting your time with his prediction/advice.

In fact, there's no traders will always make money... they're learn from the past and his own experience to become better and better everyday. It's why the best thing before you want to start trading or invest is learning.

you can the dollar cost average into your project with the $9000 that you have,

I share this a lot, but since everyone always seems to recommend DCA, I'll be glad to play devil's advocate.

Statistically speaking, lump sum investments perform better than DCA. Someone did the actual math on Bitcoin in 2019, and I imagine that fact is even more apparent with current prices considering anyone who has invested in the past has very likely profited.

Interestingly enough, I used to think this was only true for crypto, but it's apparently true for US markets as well:

Over 12-month periods, the lump-sum strategy outperformed dollar-cost averaging 68% of the time in U.S. markets, and by an average margin of 2.39%. The study found that the lump-sum strategy was usually the better way. And it was more advantageous over longer time periods. For example, in six-month intervals, the immediate investment strategy was the better result 64% of the time. When the historical intervals were stretched to 36 months, the immediate investment strategy was the winner 92% of the time.

So yeah, I'm not going to say DCA is bad (it's still the way to go for nervous investors), but you at least have to consider the fact that you can profit higher on better chances with lump sum investments. This should hold true for Bitcoin and other major coins; I imagine it would be the same case for shitcoins if you can get your money out fast enough lol.

LUMP sump is risky for beginner? One might invest in a bubble and not know it , the bubble might last 1day to few weeks, they will buy in bubble then lose everything

$1000 is such a huge amount to lose that's worth a lot for an average guy living in a third world, if I have that amount I will see to it that it will yield me a good profit, although we have a saying that you should not invest what you can't afford to lose there is still a way to make a profit by studying the market and check every pitfall, what I mean to say is, education and knowledge are what will make you safe from losing your investment.

hmph..
Investing not like a gamble that "luck" play role in process, I don't agree with that points. In every investment models, you can make a research to make sure the company/organization you choose have a good plan for their business. You should invest in your time to analyzed before take a decision. If you are in gambling, of course you need luck, but IMO no for investing.

News, tweeting or redditor who says potential project maybe wrong, don't be trapped. Lot of people lost his money because of news and any comments. Analyzed by yourself and reasearch, again this is the most important ways to getting away from any FOMO.

Risk management, every investor should have, so they can put his money for bad condition of their investment.

1. The general advice of most old investors is "invest as much as you can afford to lose."
2. You mean like Elon musk? "someone big" also sometimes mislead for their own sake. Look at the time when he instead bought Doge, he bought $ 1.5 billion in bitcoins.
