Here's my opinion regarding buying vs mining. If you don't have a lot of money Buy BTC. If you do have a lot of money buy mining hardware. You can also use your profits from buying BTC to buy mining hardware.

My advice is to hire me to setup your GPUs/CPUs. I also can get a hand on market research of all e-coins out there and some other interesting info.
Or hire some skilled tech guy who you trust.

information regarding investment/return is awfully hard to come by i have found (particularly as we are restricted to the newbie area).

my advice would be to start here - https://github.com/litecoin-project/litecoin/wiki/Mining-hardware-comparison

i intend to start a relatively slow rig, using a gpu i found on this website which has a fairly high khash/s-output/cost and working from there.  i'm assuming the difficulty has gone up 10 fold over the last couple of days as the value of ltc went through the roof, so im not sure how well my card will perform (solo mining).  but i feel it is the only way to gauge.

i am also in the fortunate position of needing a new graphics card, have a fairly decent second system i can pop it into, so if all else fails at least gaming looks good.

good luck Smiley

oh and you may buy at your own risk noone has a clue as to what will happen to ltc. $4.5 could be the limit.

I'm gonna be frank: my goal is to obtain as much LTC as I can while it's cheap, horde it until the exchange rate with USD is in the double digits, and hopefully make enough to move to a corrupt third world country and live in relative comfort and anonimity.

At this point, I do not have the capacity or the technical knowhow to set up a GPU mining operation, and when I try downloading CPU miners, my antivirus warning pops up (not to mention my hashing rate would probably not be high enough to make any potential risk worth it).

So my question is, for my objective, am I better off just buying like there's no tomorrow?
