[10:48] Hey Mark.
[10:48] Thanks for coming in.. I know you're a bit.. shaken up and stressed..
[10:51] hi
[10:51] Are you doing okay?
[10:52] more or less
[10:52] it's 1am and tomorrow morning first time I have a lawyer appointment
[10:52] things couldn't be better

Quoting the first first lines gleaned from the OP/source, highlighting the interesting part.

Depending on any time diff between Tokyo and Singapore, 6 hours later Autumn Rudtke committed suicidie(?).

That said, is there anything in complete exchange between the two (entire OP) that may cause Autumn to take her life, if such is the case?

I would not suggest that. The cat has a brain wallet.

Though on the other hand, we will see snow-like precipitation should the cat choke on a canary. That would at least be interesting.

Fun Fact #2: Has anybody try to see if there's a hidden messages in that cat photo that Mark keep referencing to?

Actually, BTC_Truth has suggested quite specifically that there might be something in the image file. I had a brief look at the hex dump, but nothing jumped out at me. Perhaps BTC_Truth can elaborate further?

Did you check the original http://imgur.com/GqZr3N5 oppose to the one in my last post above? Not sure if it's password protected, hence highlighting 'yety' in red in case it was penned in code.

And for easy reference, here is the original IRC chat where Mark keeps mentioning pushing...

http://pastebin.com/Wb9p8VbX

Random fun fact: Nobody clicked on the Cat picture link from Feb 25, until March 15... same day the Gox data and chat in last post were leaked

Fun Fact #2: Has anybody try to see if there's a hidden messages in that cat photo that Mark keep referencing to? BTW, I DON'T believe that Orion and Tibane are the same cat.

"Thanks for coming in.. I know you're a bit.. shaken up and stressed.."

[10:53] Yeah, you're in the future over there in Japan, lol.
[10:53] guys in NZ are even more in the future

[11:20] can't disclose that yety
[11:20] yet

[11:22] The reason I'm asking is because after yesterday's events of you removing yourself from the foundation and deleting the Twitter account/posts and all.. right away speculation within the bitcoin arena went into hyper chaotic mode, and the word on the street was that you were closing up shop and running away with all of their monies and bitcoin...

[11:24] Mark, I know you're not one for expressing yourself, but here's your chance at it, because you really have stepped up before, and done things NO ONE else ever had.. or probably will again.. and it seems like all of it has been quickly forgotten and instead you're being labeled as the Madoff of bitcoin.

[11:55] Err
[11:55] One more thing..

My crazy theory: JP Morgan buys MtGox for $1 and promises to pay all MtGox-clients with real money?

Are you talking about the JP Morgan bankers that committed suicide or the ones about to. BTW, in less than 24 hours from the date of the interview(?), Autumn Radtke is about to jump.

For those looking for clues as to why the interview(?) comes across as strange, perhaps there's hidden clues embedded somewhere:

The theory of them having lost so many coins on some not registered scam artists, when they were asking an arm and a leg for verification, only a few fools would buy.

Karpeles would have to BEG some of the trusted core devs like gmaxwell and others like antonopoulos to audit all the moves from the supposed cold store wallet to the supposed scam artists that supposedly stole it.

He of course does not do that, but instead represents us with an image of his cat.

He will also have to show us where he channeled all the USD and be audited by trusted members of the community. Again, he should beg for this, but instead he will keep sending us more pics of his cat and say sowwy.

Furthermore, as i explained several times, this prick has created probably WAY more BTC out of thin air than was ever stolen from this exchange supposedly.
This is the ONLY explanation why the price on MtGox went down to 91.5 USD when other exchanges were at 500-650. Only a few insane fools would have sold at this price, certainly not enough to push the price so far down.

He even kept asking for more deposits to fraud people out of there money during that time, as well as getting more real BTC into his hands via the builder tool that allowed people to interchange fake goxBTC for real BTC.

He also created insane amounts of fake USD/IOUs simply by entering a few numbers in the MtGox databse is my believe when looking at the sharp swings.

All this has to be investigated, and see WHERE TO he channeled all the REAL BTC and USD and WHEN EXACTLY he did that and WHO got hold of it. We might be able to figure out SOMETHING even if he used a mixer service to try and conceal the tracks.

Furthermore, if they "just" lost the passwords to the cold storage, and they can without doubt prove that it is THEIR cold storage, i am pretty sure the core devs in agreement with the community could release an updated client which gives them back the control over those coins, or even if i am wrong, this would have been a POSSIBLE way to save them he should be seeking to make it happen.
Of course this prick does not do any of the above, so i am convinced that this theory some put forward is out of the way as well. He does not even attempt to do anything in this regard.

His only thoughts now are how he will be able to get away with some new identity and possibly a surgical face-lift which will change his appearance so no one will recognize him after, along with some diet to lose weight, all sponsored by the powers that want to harm BTC.

A plausible conspiracy theory that is going around in twitter is that Mt.Gox was bought out by some Government agency and make it look like insolvent. This would bring about an outcry for regulation and tighter control. Plausible, but my guess is that he lost the BTC and has no way of getting it back.

I've heard all kinds of speculations, but the problem could be very simple:
MtGox sold coins they did not have in the first place, that's the only reasonable solution to the 750,000 lost coins mystery.

The other possibility is that spammer's duplicate transactions using tx malleability caused their db to fail to store the private keys properly for newly generated addresses, and it got out of sync with the blockchain for address balances. So now they are frantically trying to recover the keys from backups etc, to see how many coins are permanently destroyed. Maybe there will be enough left to open a cafe.

Cute, a newbie who thinks Mark started MtGox and who repeats the MTG:O X story that somethingawful was so proud of "uncovering". Roll Eyes

I didn't lose any of my coins in Gox so I'm ok with being called cute. The big "uncovering" is that people are acting like Mt. Gox was fort knox, which it should have been but couldn't have been expected to be considering it's long history of negligence. It's those assumptions that always get you.

I'm surprised you all are so surprised! Seems pretty apparent to me why Mark is so casual about all that money you lost..  The guy started an exchange for Bitcoins when they were worth practically nothing. All of the sudden his system gets slammed, the bitcoin he now is responsible for is worth millions.. it was just a Magic the Gathering trading website. For you "investors" that is a fantasy game some of us anti social people play that allows us to be POWERFUL WIZARDS. In the game you keep your cool when making moves to win. When I see mark, I see a hundred other anti social, intelligent people playing magic. His mistake was not seeking help when the fire started..  but can you expect more? This is a game that turned real, some aren't equip to make that transition from fantasy to reality. If anything his con was putting up all that marketing material that made his company seem prepared and credible. He should stand behind the marketing promises. If the the ID numbers were changed as a fix by other nodes and the Gox database of coin owners is scrambled someone needs to get in their and do the work to trace the black chain and restore the ownership of those "lost" coins. Shutting down the mess seems a good way to start unraveling the mess. Mark you get an F for not hiring a PR person.

Another simple solution:
They overengineered their deep cold wallet stuff (e.g. splitting keys up and store the parts seperately in several places) and ran on hot wallets/"warm" wallets (keys in office safe) for a long time. Now that they need to access the deep vaults, they are not able to piece the keys together agian, locking up their old coins forever. Think of it like restoring a RAID-5 and a second HDD failing while the restore is running...

Further BTC-price crash is the best solution for the MtGox crisis:
people sell their imaginary coins for around $80-$100 back to MtGox, which will make MtGox solvent again.

Karpeles has a lot of bitcoins. He is an early adopter and he was running one of the biggest exchanges. He must have more than 100k btc for himself in cold storage which was not related with mtgox. He is not an idiot he is told to pretend it. For sure a lot of bitcoins may have been lost but the problem here is the trust. If mtgox enable bitcoin withdrawals and the 550k costomers or a portion of them loose trust and try to sell their bitcoins then the price will go down down down... So the best strategy for him and for big investors is to claim that all btc had been lost if the majority eat that manipulation. The "leaked" document and the irc conversion is for testing reactions.

Pure manipulation...

Are everybody just gone INSANE??

I hope you all know he is talking about his own wallet (unavailable), not the one from the company.
Mark just verified that MtGOX lost 700k BTC. Why is price shooting up?

Don't friggen tell me that's actually a good news  Angry

It is good news.  700k imaginary bitcoins have disappeared.  Many many people have been trading with this imaginary coins, depressing the price.  Now that the fraud is revealed, real supply and demand can take hold again.

Plus, an inept, and potentially criminal service has been removed from Bitcoin.  From here we can move forward with more competent operators.  And the lessons learned here will force people to be more diligent about the integrity of the services they use.

Thats what I was thinking- maybe 700K weren't actually lost but some number of those are imaginary.

All of the lost coins were imaginary.  There is a very important point to grasp here so let me expand upon the idea for a moment.

The missing coins reported is the difference between the real BTC in the control of MtGox and the BTC balances held on account by users of MtGox.  As soon as those 2 numbers were not equal to each other MtGox starting being a service where imaginary BTC changed hands.  From the leaked documents it's clear there has been a deficit of BTC in hand versus BTC obligations to customers at MtGox for many years (I have been posting here for years that I suspected this was the case).

It really doesn't matter why MtGox arrived at the point where they owned less BTC than their customers believed were on deposit with them.  As soon as that situation developed MtGox was operating a fraud.  And it is beyond belief that they would not be aware of the shortfall.  Comparing BTC holdings to BTC obligations should have been the most trivial of database operations, and one that was done hourly.

Mark can wave his hands about flaws in the protocol all day long.  It doesn't change the fact that he was operating an insolvent company fraudulently for years.  I expect he is going to spend significant time in prison. (I also expect he will leave prison with a hefty number of those 'missing' BTC in his possession).

Also this statement: any BTC I own personally were on MtGox...notice the way he sayd "were" on Mt. Gox.  Meaning...Gox is no longer there, and the coins are no longer in his control?

Yes. He's saying his coins are in the same boat as everyone else's.

[12:02] How much did you lose yourself?
[12:04] Well, technically speaking it's not "lost" just yet, just temporarily unavailable

Of course, for any verified users that used the malleability issue to steal coins, the authorities should be able to go after them for theft. Unfortunately MtGox didn't used to require ID verification for purely BTC withdrawals.

If Gox finds a new Owner, id say it'll be safer than any other current exchange(just take btce as an example, totally anonymous mob).

The new owner simply CANNOT afford to behave in any way as the predecessor. I think any potential buyer realizes that. They will have to have outside auditors (better if more firms than just one), completely transparent ownership structure. Customer money segregation. They will have to communicate with the public. Well all the things mtgox did not do.
If bought by other party will have really nothing in common with the old firm. I cannot in order to function and catch on.

I agree. He doesn't even answer any questions with anything pertinent or meaningful at all.

It's as if all of this really isn't a big deal to him, and the only things on his mind are his weight gain and that he feels a little sleepy. Is the guy just a sociopathic narcissist? He's completely oblivious to what's going on around him.

He is feeling very calma, safe and like he did nothing wrong, weird.

i think he is mentally ill, psychotic.

Indeed quite shocking for a "normal" person.
I am not trying to be mean, just making medical observations.

This kind of behaviour (under the extraordinarily tough circumstances)could be consistent with e.g. Aspergers, or other cognitive impairment...

The absolute lack of mention of his customers may just point to utter narcissism,  psychopathy or  heavy delusion, this lack of common empathy would further support Aspergers and similar.

After reading the supposed interview, it is still somewhat elusive replies from the questions asked and does not give concrete answers. From all excuses given, Karpeles not only has destroyed my confidence in Mt.Gox, but has also destroyed my confidence  and raised a question if any website hosting private keys should be trusted by customers who put in their bitcoins or any other alt coin. I was trading with Mt.Gox because I have been having problems with banks - namely Barclays - as I had my account frozen when trading with localbitcoins.com from August 2013. Not a very good experience if you pay bills with one account I might add.

Although I am grieving at a loss of several bitcoins as a small investment and tried to help my partner to get into bitcoins by making a small investment into MtGox. I feel we have lost out on those bitcoins that ended up in MtGox for trading purposes as banking in UK hates bitcoin trading like the plague. However, I do trust in how the bitcoin protocol works and read the transaction malleability issue. Despite criticisms that MtGox programming skill were amateurish, I will never again put my trust and coins for trading at an exchange or keep a large quantity of bitcoins in hot wallets, no matter what the Bitcoin Foundation say, Roger Ver, or other notable industry expert in Bitcoin say in this regard. It is how the saying goes as I am myself a Computer Science researcher, "no system is safe".
In the end, bitcoin is an unregulated technology where the individual is at risk of losing bitcoins and transactions are one way only with the impossibility of recovery if theft occurs.
With the advent of the Gox.com crisis re-branding document, in my view, no matter if they change an image brand, domain name or trading platform, Gox.com is still the same underneath; unregulated and risky if insolvency issues arise. I might be wrong if Karpeles manages to pull out some magic out of his hat and I recover most of my bitcoins I put into my account, but I feel that this issue has been dragging a long way with white lies and withdrawal issues which is reminiscent of fraud tactics in delaying the victim that they will soon get their money.

IMO we need less risky means (local buyers and sellers) of bitcoin exchanges that are located overseas or at least, attempt to have some regulation on exchanges to insure the holder from insolvency issues.

Mark just verified that MtGOX lost 700k BTC.

This is a good point. It seems quite likely he is referring to his own wallet, not that for Mt. Gox.

On the other hand, the comment about the document was that it was legit, "more or less", which is quite vague. He used the same expression earlier when describing whether he was doing ok, when he really wasn't. The earlier comment in this thread that he is just trying to avoid answering questions seems fairly accurate.

Perhaps we'll get some clearer answers when the bankruptcy court gets to hear this case.

He has time to chat merrily about his cat and his own weight problems, while completely ignoring all the angry customers whose lives he has destroyed, many of whom are probably sending him death threats right now? He seems like some kind of autist, at the very least.

What a bunch of bullcrap. The guy doing the interview is trying so hard to pat him on the back: "poor Mark, we know how much you've done."
Poor Mark is avoiding questions as much as he can with "can't disclose, more or less, I'm fat, my cat is messing with keyboard" - nobody cares!
And finishes with "maybe I should go to sleep now" - yes sleep well sweet prince, don't forget about a late night snack.
Like an interview with a teenage emo! Man up, you're dealing with serious money here, money people kill for.

Yep.  Lets all feel bad for the criminal.
Mark is under stress lol, he robbed millions of dollars and got caught, what did he think that would happen?

Im kind of blown away at the disinterest and unprofessionalism.

Then again, showing up casually with a starbucks on the biggest disaster day of your multi million dollar company kind of blew me away too.

I pictured him casually standing in line at Starbucks while hundreds of millions of dollars was floundering under him.  Strange.

The conversation reads very, very strange.

If you have a thing for visiting Mtgox in Japan this is who you should look for

Lost your life savings? Lost everything??? visit the Office in japan Mtgox. this is who you should look for Founder/Ceo of MtGox

yeah the guy responsible for mtgox and shutting down the website and permanently shutting down your account.  "Means" you can't get it back unless government steps in and requires Mtgox to Reopen the website to return the money to everyone which i highly doubt the government will do. lol

Did you guys know that his company Tibanne is named after his cat? Yes, his cat`s name is Tibanne.

And this guy was handling hundreds of millions of dollars of other people`s money.

I like your post, really! It's so lyrical (not in a sarcastic way), but ppl lost their money on GOX and they just continue buying?
I would try to recover my money first and wait for some really positiv siginals. Maybe that's just me :/ arrrgh

Some of those burned at Gox will walk away and never return.  But consider, they were never actually part of Bitcoin anyway.  They were trading imaginary bitcoins created by fraud.

The good news is new participants will not continue being drawn into the scam by the brand recognition MtGox commanded.  It will take some days for the dust to settle but this will be a net positive.

i think that's a bit harsh, can you imagine the stress this guy is under?

Looking at the way he's handling this thing, it doesn't sound like he's under any stress at all. He isn't communicating anything except he's not giving up, and he's fat.

honestly, i don't think he is just that stupid to think he could do one. There is just way too much money involved and some ppl would hunt him for the rest of his life. He would need to literally dig himself a 5 story underground apartment in the middle of the amazonian rainforest. shit, i heard you can get a person wiped out clean for $10000. he ain't going nowhere.

Seriously, i think he is mentally ill, psychotic. His behaviour in all that is happening is complete non sense, just crazy. It is even hard to label him incompetent, criminal or a scammer, he just seems insane.

I agree. He doesn't even answer any questions with anything pertinent or meaningful at all.

It's as if all of this really isn't a big deal to him, and the only things on his mind are his weight gain and that he feels a little sleepy. Is the guy just a sociopathic narcissist? He's completely oblivious to what's going on around him.

i think that's a bit harsh, can you imagine the stress this guy is under?  Dont get me wrong, I think he's a piece of $hit for letting the company 'lose' 700K BTC but he would have thousands of people hounding him about millions of dollars being lost.  I would be delirious and delusional too with the pressure and expectations on me if i were him.  He's probably got death threats coming at him left right and centre.  I'm pissed and i've only got $300 at stake, imagine people with $30,000 or $3,000,000!

I kinda feel for him a little and hope he gets his shit together to bring gox out of this mess.

He acknowledges that the strategy document is legitimate.  That means he has been operating MtGox with a deficit of bitcoins for years, and that deficit grew to 750000 BTC, worth nearly $1 Billion late last year.  Of course he's under a little mental distress.

I'm sure it will get much worse after he meets his lawyer and learns he will likely spend significant time in a Japanese prison.  The good news is he can finally lose some weight while he's there!

put it this way, if karpeles had the funds, he would be preparing to have a meeting with a coder to fix the site to allow transactions..

but instead he is having a meeting with a lawyer. this means he is checking his legal standing on how to report his insolvancy. you dont need a lawyer to code the malleability fix!!!

[10:48] Hey Mark.
[10:48] Thanks for coming in.. I know you're a bit.. shaken up and stressed..
[10:51] hi
[10:51] Are you doing okay?
[10:52] more or less
[10:52] it's 1am and tomorrow morning first time I have a lawyer appointment
[10:52] things couldn't be better
[10:52] (well, not tomorrow but today, now)
[10:53] Yeah, you're in the future over there in Japan, lol.
[10:53] guys in NZ are even more in the future
[10:54] Yeah two places I've wanted to visit but cringe at the flight time alone.
[10:55] So I just wanted to talk to you on here, no pressure, you don't have to answer anything you don't want to. I'm not a journalist.
[10:55] We've chatted before briefly. So you know a lil something on me.
[10:56] yep
[10:56] And with all of what happened yesterday, even though I knew all of that, I didn't let me contacts at FOX Business publish it, because I didn't want to see bitcoin or gox going up in flames if it could be salvaged.
[10:57] Obviously holding that info back and not publishing a tumblr or leaking docs first allowed someone else to stake a claim on it first.
[10:58] But you win some you lose some.. and honestly, I'm not a fan of people posting things that are rumors or bullshit or not verified just because it damages the shit out of someone or a company... and it really cannot be taken back afterwards.
[10:58] Is that Crisis Strategy Draft even legit?
[11:04] more or less
[11:05] as the name suggests it's a draft, and it's a bunch of proposals to deal with the issue at hand, not things that are actually planned and/or done
[11:06] this said this document was not produced by MtGox
[11:07] I saw some strategies in there that I had shared with you, but also saw some things in there that I would have never suggested anyone ever go through with as it would make you look horrible..
[11:07] I think a lot of people ignored the draft part.
[11:08] It was just really surprising to see that being "leaked"..
[11:10] Do you think it was leaked by someone purposely to hurt you personally or gox in general?
[11:13] [01:09:51] Do you think it was leaked by someone purposely to hurt you personally or gox in general? <- I have some doubts
[11:14] Heh, I bet.
[11:17] Are you stepping down as CEO and away from gox too?
[11:17] (If you can't legally disclose, then just say so)
[11:20] can't disclose that yety
[11:20] yet
[11:20] K np.
[11:22] How does that make you feel to hear or see people you bailed out yourself and stood up for over the years, turn on you like that?
[11:22] not good
[11:24] Mark, I know you're not one for expressing yourself, but here's your chance at it, because you really have stepped up before, and done things NO ONE else ever had.. or probably will again.. and it seems like all of it has been quickly forgotten and instead you're being labeled as the Madoff of bitcoin.
[11:25] We're having this chat, and you're still in Japan at your apt/office and not in a cave somewhere, right?
[11:34] Look Mark, you took mtgox and ran with it, built on it, stuck with it and took it to a level no one ever thought possible. When other exchanges were crippled, you stepped in and bailed them out or absorbed them to save the bitcoin market in general. In exchange it brought you a massive surge of customers and press that made you look like the hero of the day and then some.
[11:34] But what most people forget too was that you weren't set up to handle this from the start..
[11:35] [01:25:02] We're having this chat, and you're still in Japan at your apt/office and not in a cave somewhere, right? <- at home, with my cat being a pain sleeping on the keyboard
[11:35] Yeah, doesn't sound like someone on the run with bags of money...
[11:37] What's the plan now for you and mtgox?
[11:37] can't comment on that yet
[11:37] Alright.
[11:37] (mostly because doing so could compromise our current efforts)
[11:38] imgur: the simple image sharer <- my cat pushing my keyboard, me pushing the keyboard back on the desk
[11:38] So you guys are still actively trying to save it though?
[11:38] We haven't given up
[11:40] You could have given up and walked away a bunch of times previously, but you always stuck it out... even though others have closed up and walked away, why have you continued to fight and work at it and not give up?
[11:41] "Giving up" is not part of how I usually do things
[11:42] Do you want to tell your side of this a bit more?
[11:43] Like what you've sacrificed or given up, personally? I have to imagine it's taken quite a toll on you.
[11:43] well, first I would guess is my health
[11:43] What do you mean?
[11:44] took on more than 30kg since handling MtGox
[11:44] (compensating for stress by eating)
[11:47] I'm guessing stress from lack of sleep too, like now..
[11:48] heh
[11:48] and drinking liters of coca cola
[11:48] how american
[11:48] (almost american, actually, since some people see coca cola as being non-american)
[11:52] lol
[11:54] anyway
[11:54] I should try to get some sleep
[11:55] already 2am
[11:55] waking up in 4 hours
[11:55] Err
[11:55] One more thing..
[11:55] and starting to be tired of pushing my keyboard so it stays on the desk
[11:56] Do you still believe in the viability of an unregulated digital currency like bitcoin tho?
[11:57] difficult
[11:57] tbqh the pressure we got from banks and governments makes things very hard
[11:58] Do you think if it were regulated it would make it easier to work things out?
[11:58] partially
[11:58] How so?
[11:59] well, first avoid being blocked by banks and governments around the world
[11:59] if regulated, it means that as long as you follow the regulations you're fine
[12:00] The biggest question people really have asked though is are you personally vested in mtgox with your own btc?
[12:01] And whether or not you, like everyone else, have taken a personal hit and are in the same boat as they are in terms of taking a loss/hit from the recent events?
[12:01] [02:00:59] And whether or not you, like everyone else, have taken a personal hit and are in the same boat as they are in terms of taking a loss/hit from the recent events? <- any BTC I own personally were on MtGox
[12:02] How much did you lose yourself?
[12:04] Well, technically speaking it's not "lost" just yet, just temporarily unavailable

[12:06] didn't check my wallet before pushing the site offline
[12:07] anyway
[12:07] maybe I should go to sleep now
[12:07] Anything else you'd like to say to everyone before all the pissed off people start going nuts, even more...?
[12:09] not really
[12:09] maybe just a link? something like that: Why do we fall? - 9GAG
[12:09] well, we'll see how this one goes anyway
[12:16] Well, I'd like to chat more, but I know you're pushing to go to sleep.
[12:17] And so long as you are saying you're not disappearing from this.. that's okay.
[12:17] I still think you should say something more to all these people or at least reveal how much you've taken a hit for, personally..
[12:17] It would show them that you are still on their side.
[12:19] By the way, that whole removal from the foundation, did you decide to leave that before or after the chats with them to help save gox versus let it fail?
