Historically, in times of instability, people have sold the altcoins, and moved into bitcoins or fiat.

historically - it's not that bitcoins are around since 1895.

Holding alt coins with low trading volume is extremely risky. As long as people are willing to spend BTC buying alt coins they have value. But if/when the buy orders go away the coins become worthless.

Overstock.com announcing that they will begin accepting BTC as payment in the next 6 months will cause alot to jump ship, back into BTC

I don't quite see this, the altcoins are becoming more like a true virtual commodity than Bitcoin is meaning the importance of these coins having bitcoins payment infastructure is becoming unnecessary. There simply a vehicle to hold value like a silver, rhodium, palladium coin etc. with the added bonus in a few clicks conversion back to btc is simple and easy.

And the altcoins fell like heavy rocks in a lake, right to the bottom.
