In order to make a change in the cryptocurrency system, you have to take a lot of things, not only the internet connection is essential, Yeah, it's true that with the help of great speed would make it easier and comfortable to use it, but in the context of service and facilities, I think it will be the same scenario because almost everything is invented already regarding this issue, but one thing could bring a good result towards this platform, regulation system is very essential to this present context, but how could it be possible within this system, as a non technical person I don't have any proper idea. but when you have a smooth internet service then you have also an opportunity to make a change in this system, That's is the only opportunity regarding 5G.

Fifth generation of 5G maybe best technology for bitcoin and give faster service when we access to bitcoin and altcoin wallet, with 5G we can use many exchange market to sell and buy bitcoin faster than from now using 4G, but I think bitcoin have adoption new way with technology to make bitcoin price will be better and higher, with adoption 5G technology bitcoin look easy and give many benefit for bitcoin investor to access with bitcoin and altcoin assets.

With 5G I think it would have a higher chance of adoption but not as high as people think it will be. It will make it easier but it can't make it go wide all of a sudden, I mean just because we have 5G won't mean we will have mass adoption. It would however make some sort of apps and internet connections of it easier which means if taken advantage of those could lead to mass adoption but we still have to do our parts in the deal.

Like when you go to a place that looks a bit techy or at least run by younger people, ask them if they accept bitcoins and if you could pay with bitcoins, they will most likely say no but at least you put the thought in their heads. That is the kind of stuff you need to do to increase the adoption, you can't just expect adoption to come to you.

I think I missed the point here and didn't really talk about the effects IOT would have on crypto, which would be immense and definetly could give us a world where crypto transactions are easy as cake.

IOT means that we'll be able to have connected devices and a lot of synchronisation, which is only possible if 5G becomes possible, correct? That's interesting, will have to look deeper!

Rather than focusing on main stream, 5G opportunity is more applicable and useful for the existing users. It'll give them the advantage to have faster internet compare to 3G and 4G. It can help to increase bitcoin's adoption but it wouldn't give much impact and contribution for bitcoin to go mainstream. Everyone who's capable adopt 5G but not everyone of them would also adopt bitcoin.

Really 5G should be a big help to smart contract platforms, so my answer would be that it is an opportunity for ETH and its competitors. 5G is a key enabler of IoT, and IoT means connected devices, means a multitude of electronic 'things' talking to one another. ETH (or something very similar) is the perfect mechanism to codify how object A should relate to object B. And if we do start to see crypto smart contracts being used in these situations, it does mark the start of a crypto use-case actually entering the real world. For me then, yes, 5G is an opportunity.

5G -> IoT -> Ethereum.

For cryptocurrencies to become effective and mass adopted, one major requirement is the availability of high-speed internet connection. 5G internet will be able to offer a fast internet connection to the cryptocurrency space as the next generation of mobile internet connectivity.

Where I'm at you struggle to get 3G quite a bit of the time. I don't expect 5G to ever work properly.

The IoT sounds fun but even on the primest of rail and road routes in the UK you still spend plenty of time without any signal, let alone the boonies. The whole telecoms industry will either have to smear signal across every nook and cranny, which isn't possible or affordable, or all of this miraculousness will only happen in a few towns and cities.

One thing is that we still need to wait about 3 years for 5G internet to be operative

It is a big opportunity but there are only few countries still able to implement a much wider internet connection, some countries even said to be a 4G implemented zone still tends to have a low connection due to area signals. Though some is already 5G users in some country there is a news this first quarter that 5G and blockchain technology will be associated in these network there are problems at point, imagine the scalability or adoption of users that will use it and we know some blockchain projects are having interruption and problems in expansion. If it will be applied extensively they must be able to tolerate an extremely high number of transactions per second, and we know that this is the weak point of this blockchain technology. We will be happy to experience having fast internet plus the idea of having transactions using it with blockchain soon.

One of the hottest and most anticipated upcoming technology trends for 2019 is the Fifth Generation (5G) wireless network technology. Rumored to start the new internet of things epoch! Knowing that there is a lot of crypto startups that are using blockchain for various interconnectivity applications and purposes, do you think this might be a good chance for crypto to go more mainstream implementing itself with the new opportunity for decentralized data storing and thus decentralized internet of things?

Not all technological advances are relevant to the development of BTC or adoption.

BTCs can already be transacted even with the worst of the worst connections, so I'm not sure how improving already good connections in 4G covered areas (which will primarily be where 5G will initially be rolled out) will help mainstream BTC adoption.

The improved bandwidth is simply not needed for the bitcoin network to be accessed, or thrive.

Advance nations have been using 5G for quite some time now and it doesn't really affect crypto in general. I think it will be a good gauge though for struggling countries to use this advance technology. I mean crypto will go mainstream if there are nations that are going to adopt it specially underdeveloped and developing countries. If we can see network infra improved a lot in the next 5 years, maybe just maybe we can see a slow adoption using this 5G in my opinion.

I see no one is talking about the implications of the 5G network the main issue with 5G will be densification.  the band that 5G uses is actually used by the military the sub GHZ network has been used in battle field technology the issue with 5G is the amount of transmitters required in close location to people the 5G signals are very weak so to combat that they are installing 5G into every street-light in the UK right now this gives the a way to have phased array antennas that can actually map out there environment.

not sure why 5G should be an opportunity?  there is now breakthrough. just some speed improvement
so basically quite a lot of users won't notice any difference with their current 4g network ( based on the nest of 5g network I saw in the NET)
so answering to your firsy question - no. 5G won't change anything  Sad

It's an opportunity for the internet to be more powerful in all industries.

Personally, 5G has been introduced in our country for about a few months to a year now, yet i still don't feel it's adoption (i even bought a 5G capable phone). So although not directly, i imagine crypto will be affected towards the better as well, in due time but not anytime soon.

I think the 5G will have affects much more than mobile that people are missing out. The PoS systems that every shop uses that allows them to accept credit card and debit card payments actually uses a cellular mobile phone card, which means their internet is as strong as the operator of that telecommunication company, when they move to 5G there would be a lot better connection and that means internet would be both faster and can be used in a lot further distances.

This is why I think PoS systems will be much more complicated, don't forget that whenever technology got better the requirements for stuff got better as well, back in the day ps2 had 8 mb memory and now ps4 requires 80 gb space to download a game, so when 5G happens everything will be better but there would be more stuff put into it and one of them could be crypto payments, well at least hopefully.

Crypto is already on mainstream, 5G network could bring advantages in the blockchain ecosystem specially in the internet of things. Having a fast network can speed processes for businesses just imagine doing internet task at lightning speed. This evolution of technology will play important role in our lives in making our jobs easier and efficient.

China have announce for opening Fifth Generation (5G) wireless network technology of internet, I think cryptocurrency have bigger effect with faster internet access where we can make transaction faster than we use 4G, now many country want to make Fifth Generation (5G) wireless network technology for getting best internet service.

Of course, has a greater effect on crypto. Talking of internet speed, it can benefit not cryptocurrency but  many IOT's as well. A faster internet means a faster transaction verification, a convenient way of paying by digital assets online, such as bitcoin and the like. 5G technology  can revolutionize  the way we conduct transaction too imho.
truly extraordinary technology now, of course I totally agree with your opinion, this will speed up the transaction
LN  Lightning Network which is already gaining ground for aiding faster crypto transactions thus PoW Proof of Work will be boasted by 5G technology there was an era when its takes longer time for transactions of cryptos accomplished I believed its partly  due to slow a network particularly in developing countries where internet technology had not really improve with this invention payment of goods and service will be accelerated invariably more adoption of cryptocurrencies as a means of payment.

In my country there are lots of area where internet is seldom available, there are also null spot of signal and internet connection because of lack of infrastructure to relay signals.  Unless this problem is addressed, the same situation will happen whether 5g is implemented or not.

Not sure what country you're from, but social media platforms such as Facebook are looking to provide internet access to even the most remote places in the world, which won't only benefit themselves, but obviously crypto and the whole world economy. I'm looking forward to how this plays out because it has the potential to lift hundreds of millions of people out of poverty with some guidance.

As for 5G being an opportunity for crypto, meh, not really. In some cases my smartphone shifts from 4G back to 3G without me actually noticing much of a difference. If 3G is working still fine for the most ordinary tasks, what is there to gain from 5G? In most cases people's hardware isn't even capable of fully utilizing the advantages 5G offers in terms of internet speed and latency.

5G is for faster internet connection. It will help in so many internet-based applications but it will not help in the confirmation time of crypocurrency transactions. So, 5G is going to be useless if the network, for example Bitcoin network, is handling too much heavy traffic. In that case, it is the network and not the connection that has a problem. Even if you are using 5G if the transaction fee you are paying is the minimum, expect a slow processing. If you are using 2G and you are paying high transaction fee in your transaction, the processing will be swift. Add to this that confirmation layers vary in different wallets, some have 5 confirmations while other reach as high as 20.

This will just benefit internet-dependent websites such as streaming services and whatnot, and not necessarily cryptocurrencies in general. Even in 3G/HSPA+ connections, cryptocurrencies still are doing quite well in basic functions of the said tech. Sending and receiving need not high speed access to the internet, just to be able to send and receive bytes of data is enough. If anything, 5G will be more useful in commerce, logistics and other aspects where high-speed file and information sharing is required constantly, and crypto does not really need that, currently.

One of the hottest and most anticipated upcoming technology trends for 2019 is the Fifth Generation (5G) wireless network technology.

Actually there is no need for upcoming because it is already released and circulated in many state. For example the Samsung S10, One Plus 7 Pro, Huawei Mate X and many more has the feature of 5G.

do you think this might be a good chance for crypto to go more mainstream?

It has contributions in some ways but not “ more to mainstream”.  If you compare the benefits of 5G to the previous version of course it is much faster in speed and capability and moreover the ability to connect with several numbers of devices.

Now what is the benefit of 5G to the crypto? It will increase the involvement of directly support blockchains and the reduction of intermittent transactions.
If you look at it, still it has contribution to the world of Crypto so we still are grateful for 5G.

I would not call this a opportunity for crypto to go main stream. After all the 5g Technology will only help the speed of data transfers and its already implemented in some countries for months and more countries will follow but are we ready to enjoy the tech at its fullest ? There are a lot of protest on-going against 5g tech and it seems they won't stop anytime soon.

Maybe in some years they 5g tech will have some impact among cryptocurrencies and lets hope it will reflect on the prices too. I'm sure some projects already think to use the 5g tech to develop new techs in order to speed up the processes their using.

Well, that's really good to hear. 5G connectivity is really a good help to earn more because we can no longer experience lagging or slow connection so there is a bigger chance to earn more from it and I feel so happy to hear about that 5G connectivity because that's the answer  of God to a lot of people's prayer in order for them to be able to earn more profit.

OP topic ask the idea if 5G could be an opportunity for crypto to go mainstream and it doesn't discuss about earnings and connections speed! What profit are talking about with the arrival of 5G? I think 4G is more than enough to augment your so called "profits" or what ever that is. I bet you didn't read what OP has stated!

I don't think so? because they are different states. 5G is about our internet connectivity while cryptocurrency is virtual money or currency that can be found on the internet. Also if we want to go mainstream it should be advertised in many tv networks, also if the government will allow legalizing bitcoin it is the thing that we needed. 5G network doesn't affect bitcoin, it is just connectivity.

Why would i need advertising? most of the current start ups using block chain tech, no matter if it is bitcoins or ether or any other. Are doing in a way that people who uses their products (quality control, supplement management, transaction verification) may not be even aware it had block-chain tech behind it. But it still creates a demand for the use cases. I doubt not a lot of people knows how the bank transactions work, what data bases or data protection standards or architectures they use. But they are using them everyday

5G basically allows even faster Internet connection for mobile devices. Now, ask yourself, are people not adopting cryptocurrency because their Internet is slow? The answer is no, that thing isn't very relevant for most users, because they use light wallets, and almost no one runs full nodes on mobile devices connected to mobile networks.

Knowing that there is a lot of crypto startups that are using blockchain for various interconnectivity applications and purposes, do you think this might be a good chance for crypto to go more mainstream implementing itself with the new opportunity for decentralized data storing and thus decentralized internet of things?

IoT has a ton of problems with security, and no clear benefits - why would people want their tosters connected to the Internet? Just because they can? Just like with blockchain, there are no technological limitations that stop it from being adopted today, and yet it doesn't happen, because the technology itself is weak.

For sure it will mean a lot. But it will take some time that will be build enough to matter. I read about it few weeks ago and i barely started in few cities beside South Korea that have most users. In 2-5 years time we should already see its impact.

I think cryptocurrency has nothing to do with internet speed, that I know is cryptocurrency closely related to blockchain.
so even if the internet speed more faster with 5G it won't have much impact with cryptocurrencies in any matter.
because cryptocurrency transactions do not require high speed internet and large bandwidth. but enough with a stable network.

Even though 5G promises faster internet and unveils new technologies in communication but that's just where it ends.  As it stands now it has little to no impact in crypto. Faster internet speed doesn't translate to faster Bitcoin transfers and the rest of it. Blockchain speeds will still be at what they use to be regardless of 5G.

5G network will enrich the internet speed and the give ease in accessing. Through this more remote locations will get access to faster internet. As cryptocurrency is much connected with the internet, we might see some increase in the usage of cryptocurrency. This does not gonna make cryptocurrency go mainstream. To go mainstream it needs to get used for years, because it hasn't attained the similarity as the fiat.

Anways, what's the connect of crypto adaptation from 5G network? Just a faster internet speed. I don't think crypto will benefited much with that. Acceptance by government and people to become open minded in crypto will do. Imo, even without going too much in mainstream, crypto will become more popular as time pass by. Look on how far crypto have reached right now even with struggles. We've reached the price where in we didn't know that we will come to it before.

I'm not sure how 5G technology would make blockchain technology better or more mainstream, the technology provides better and faster network connections from my understanding of it, which I guess could help the BTC networks? Not completely sure in the current state.

I think the arrival of 5G wireless technology will not make a big impact on crypto adoption to go mainstream! The fact that its most notable improvement is an increase in speed only and has minimal influence on current blockchain technology innovations right now!

Perhaps, one way of achieving mainstream adoption of cryptocurrencies is to educate people about it and demonstrate its benefits, ease of use, exhibit a sense of its security so that they maybe enticed to try it out and ultimately adopt it, which could be achieved even without considering the need for 5G technology at least for now.
Problem is though, BTC doesn't require a fast network connection, it just needs more merchants accepting the coin right now, and 5G doesn't really help that all.

Indeed! That is my point of view! I believe there has been a steady rise of crypto adoption over the years even before 5G has arrived and a faster wireless connection speed it offers won't even have a big impact on crypto mass adoption!

Perhaps we can say that this technology is somewhat negligible in its influence in contributing crypto mass adoption and I would rather believe that providing total internet access to rural and remote areas regardless of the kind of internet technology used be it  4G or  5G, etc., will definitely have a great impact on achieving crypto mass adoption. Imho.

The fifth generation technology will change many concepts and the speed of internet will change drastically and we could have many changes in our day to day affairs but the biggest negative point is that none of the hardware we are using right now will not support (5G) wireless network technology. For (5G) wireless network technology to go mainstream you need to have the hardware and until that you do not see any major adoption with it.

The only benefit to 5G is the speed which makes mobiles as good as laptops.

But without the infrastructure that allows crypto to actually take advantage of this (payment gateways, retailers accepting crypto and so on), it doesn't benefit cryptocurrency at all.

I think bitcoin has wasted a lot of time on the lightning network when they should have been spending the time getting other infrastructure in place.

I don't think that the question of Bitcoin going mainstream is based on any technology or techical solution. It's the question of legal matter and regulation, technology is.just one tinny part.
5G together with other technologies can bring and probably will bring kind of revolution, especially in the field of artificial intelligence, internet of things and similar but it will not help Bitcoin to become mainstream currency.

I would like to see a stable 5G network deployment first before making any such statements. 5G nodes need to be set up within close distance from each other in order to have it function the best.

I have seen some reviews where when you're close to a node speeds can go up to 1gb/s, but when you stand behind a building like 10 meters from a node, the speeds drop far under 100mb/s, which is not good at all.

I think it has been pushed out too fast. I get that there are latency benefits over 4G, but what benefit is there when you can't utilize it everywhere? It needs years more of development to be stable enough to use.

The 5G wireless technology has already been in use for quite some time now in many countries. There is no need to speak of it as if it is still coming and people are still anticipating on it. It has arrived and I can say that there is much improvement in terms of speed.

There may not be direct influence of the 5G technology to the growth of crypto but since crypto is basically built on the internet as one of its foundations, 5G is going to certainly contribute to crypto's success.

I don't think so. What crypto needs to go mainstream is for people to raise awareness to crypto, but not necessarily 5G is needed to do so. I saw Facebook Libra as a way to raise awareness that such digital currencies are existing and its benefits, but its launch is being doubted. If more establishments such as businesses open support for bitcoin and other altcoins as payment, then maybe more investors would patronize bitcoin, booming its price in the market.

In fact, blockchain can completely support many different types of businesses in the world. China already has 5G, and it works on a tech business without blockchain. But 5G belongs to the signal wave, it cannot be distributed to the whole world and the use of blockchain technology is redundant.

I recently read many articles and news regarding the inevitable coming into the market of the 5G technology which is expected to do wonders for the Internet of Things (IoT) revolution. It is estimated that as early as 2025 there would be estimated 100 billion IoT connections all over the globe which can be enough to catapult the dream of smart cities, smart gadgets and smart homes to the higher level. Such will be the impact of the 5G technology that it can be considered as a magnificent game-changer. However, the big question is this: Will 5G be helping Bitcoin and the blockchain technology? Among many things that maybe we have not seen, I think that the number one benefit is the dramatic jump on speed of transactions. I am not a technical person so maybe I would not be expounding on how can that be possible but suffice it to say that this can be the most obvious change we might experience in cryptocurrency using the 5G technology. Will this thing be a big catalyst towards more adoption of cryptocurrency? Yes, it can be helping though we should not expect 5G to be like a big miracle.
