Topic: Is a question relating to running a node on a notebook off topic (Read 135 times)

I've stepped back and thought about this, and I'm still having trouble understanding why the thread had to be moved onto a board discussing films and people's sex lives. It was a question about a hardware failure on a notebook running a full node, and that seems to fit into the board topics list. Bitcoin frees people from banking and physical location dependancy, and this means many of them will want use Bitcoin on the move. Failure to support this would seem to leave a hole in the range of Bitcoin discussions here.

I'm saddened by this, and by the fact that bounty hunters are now claiming this as their forum, and suggesting that one should go to Reddit for serious discussions about Bitcoin. I've had to spend time looking through the current hardware support forums to raise the topic for discussion, and I would have preferred to spend the time reading the Bitcoin posts here. My post received a helpful and meritable reply really quickly on the tech board, so it is obvious that there is abundant expertise here to discuss these topics.

I think it is time that BitcoinTalk decided if it is a Bitcoin and crypto forum, or a Bounty scammers advertising and revenue generating pit. I'm tempted to join a sig programme, and pick up $1,000 per month for posting general chat.

That topic might belong there but that isn't the issue the issue is the off topic sub forum is crowded in nonsense right now. Can't we just lock these topics:

Like I understand that some of these topics might have been a genuine question/discussion and I've participated in some of these in the past however it's obvious to anyone that goes there that its current being abused. Off topic shouldn't have any of these types of games or stupid questions. It should be reserved for things like the OP.

Yeah, the Technical Support is for discussion about the Bitcoin client created by Satoshi. That's why other clients such as Electrum get moved to their own section. I imagine this is the reason it got changed from "Technical Support" to "Bitcoin Technical Support". You may be running a node on that notebook but, the primary topic is about power supplies and not discussion about the node itself.



Unfortunately, there's no other section which it would fit in better.

The board description states that posts should be related to running nodes and othe Bitcoin issues. My question was about battery reliability on a notebook computer running a full node. and the thead was moved to off topic. I understand the problems that mods have in keeping the boards clean, but I don't understand why this thread has to go on a board with discussions about how to become a father, and what is your favourite movie. I think the thread is useless on that board, and I have closed it. I'll raise the question in a webmaster forum, and continue the discussion there.

Is off topic really the only place where we can discuss harware problems related to our node computers?
