AFAIK this is a legacy option built into SMF for older mobile devices. There is also a version for iMode devices.
It'd probably fit better on a mobile, but it is fairly nasty to try and read due to the lack of styling.

I've used mobile devices (both Apple and Android) to browse Bitcointalk fairly regularly for the past few years, it's not that bad once you get used to it. Epochtalk has a mobile theme I believe, however the current software version doesn't (and probably won't ever).

What features do you want to see? Theymos somewhat recently added the ability to navigate to the next/previous page more easily on mobile devices. I am sure he would be open to implementing other changes/features if you had something in mind -- although if implementing the feature is too complex/difficult, then it might need to wait until the new forum comes out.

there's alot to read in this forum and I wonder why in 2017 this forum is not mobile friendly?

I hope a mobile version will be available soon.

Well, this things can be possible tho the problem right now is that we need developers and basically they can't work without budget(i think that this is a must). However if there were bitcoin enthusiast developers that are willing to do the job for free then it can really happen sooner(lowest percentage, for now, I guess anyways).
