Topic: Is an official Bitcoin iPhone app planned? (Read 2409 times)
If anyone is interested in starting a project for iPhone users I am a developer and will be willing to lend a hand. I'm also looking for app ideas that I can start working on. If anyone has any suggestions I'd be willing to try it out.

I was thinking maybe an "official" app submitted directly by the bitcoin team would have a better chance along with some talks / lobbying with apple. If that didn't work, they could do a public PR campaign about the rejection of the legit use of bitcoin.
It won't. Apple doesn't care who submits it, they care about how the client is used and what it's doing.

I think does matter who, at least if you're really big. See how they rejects all apps featuring women showing anything more provocative then their ankles and calling it porn while accepting sports illustrateds app. In this case it probably won't matter though until the bitcoin-community grows a lot bigger. So for IOs it's probably better make a cloudbased system which would be out of Stevies reach.
I also think it matters who submits. A one man band developer vs. a very high profile public project for the greater good is a big difference.
If we are going to get the general population using it, they will need to send and get coins on the go. And pay for stuff in stores.

How would that apply? So long as you're not selling bitcoins within the app, you should be fine no? Is there another clause that they're citing? Any idea how long ago this guys app was rejected? Was it before they recently loosened up their restrictions? My understanding is that the Paypal app was initially rejected as well...

It isn't. That has nothing to do with the reason it was rejected. In fact, the author asked Apple to point out the issue in the ToS and they didn't. They can reject apps for any reason, including they don't like you.
Agree, logic doesn't seem to have a lot to to with whats being rejected or not. It seem to be pretty random, but that's another discussion.

I don't understand why a wallet would be rejected. How different is it than the Paypal app?
You'll have to ask Apple that. Apple feels that a PayPal application is dealing in US Currency (so it your bank app). A Bitcoin application deals in an "alternative currency" and they've been cracking down on those including the ones in video games, etc.
Doesn't stop someone from releasing one on the Cydia Store, but you'd have to jailbreak to use it.

It's already written. Apple rejected it on the basis of "alternative currency".

Yea Android would be nice too. Some projects going on and some apps at Market, not sure yet if anyone is fully working yet though.
a bitcoin app for iphone would be awesome but until then you can just use mybitcoin.com
Someone already made a client for the iPhone but it got rejected.
Also, the processing power of an iOS device isn't significant enough for useful mining.
For spending or trading, that would be more useful, but it'll never happen in the App Store.

As in, mining on iPhones? LuLZ! 
I wouldn't trust an iPhone with a single bitcoin.
It is highly unlikely that an iOS version would get store approval. Maybe one for jailbroken phones, although the benefits of this type of app would be limited (meaning a JB version).
this is important I think, especially in places like africa, need to be able to walk into a shop and pay
