the best choice is rx570 and rx580, the most profitable cards at the moment. you can borrow without doubt

As of now, I've seen a lot of GPUs flooding in the second-hand market, majority RX470s & 570s.
They usually go for $50-$80 which is not at all bad considering the break-even will be in a few months with that price point.
If properly tweaked, it will consume around 70W for 30 MH/s which is quite good.

Lunga Chung: Awesome, you basically confirmed what I was trying to figure out.

If interested in mining Etherium directly the RX570/RX580s are best since they are so cheap and run the Ethash algorithm just as good or better than the more expensive Nvidia cards. Downside to RX570/580 is that they aren't very profitable running other algorithms.

Maybe for this second rig I will go with 1070's since I am willing to spend a bit more money and don't want to put all of my eggs in one basket. Should I go for 1070 or 1070ti? Or whatever I find at a cheaper price?

either one is great, try to look for EVGA

Lunga Chung: You are the savior on all of my posts. Thank you so much again for replying.

Maybe I will look into some used or new 570s and give a 570 rig a try.

Can you answer the question from my initial post... is there any point in exploring more expensive options with NVIDIA cards or better AMD cards? Or are my calculations correct where if mining Etherium directly the RX cards are best.

Nvidia is better overall, you can mine a lot of algos but its more expansive...best mhs/$ is 1070 at the moment...

AMD is only better on ETH and XMR but if you decide to try some used rx570 go for sapphire only

I have a rig with, 8 RX580s mining Ethereum @ 257mh/s using Phoenix Miner. My electrical costs are .1333. So far the profits are looking like $30 a month which isn't terrible considering it is 2019.

I am very satisfied with this rig and would like to build a second rig and willing to spend more money this time around.

HOWEVER:
After doing some calculations with WhatToMine.com it doesn't look like there is any card that is more profitable than my current build.

It appears that the BEAST cards like the vegas use so much electricity and since my electricity is .1333, it makes it not worth paying for them and running them. (ROI seems rediculous).

I do see with some of the 1070's and 1070ti and 1080's and 1080ti that some of the ALT coins become really profitable (which is not the case with my RX580s), a lot more than Etherium, which is why it might be worth me going this path and investing in an Nvidia rig. However, if we are just talking Etherium the RX580s (micron memory) have been hard to beat with this calculator.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be great!!

Rx570 nitro + 8gb does slightly less with better consumption. Rig with 6 cards consumes 640~650W

Sorry forgot to mention. About 1050 watts, I still need to experiment with Undervolting slightly though.

Maybe I will go with used cards this time around..

I just got brand new RX580s off newegg for 179 each before $20 rebate which isn't terrible.

So are you saying just stick with the AMD RX rigs in general in 2019 and to help with ROI get used cards.

How much power do your rig draw at that hashrate? Yes you should also consider that RX 570/580 are really cheap as well. But buying new GPUs now besides second hand are not an option imo.
