Now that Poloniex has margin trading, is anybody taking the opportunity to short any altcoins?

Personally, I'm shorting Monero. Of all the coins available to short, it seems to be the most consistant when it comes to losing value.

Oh, so someone finally did this. Amazing.

Try maintaining a Long Basket and a Short Basket while capturing the spread...
That's how NYSE pros make money... not by "picking stocks" which is hokum for the rubes.

Doing that with puts and calls can be very lucrative.

Actually, options have wide spreads...
And are designed so that the only people that make money are Market Makers.

This is really hard for people to understand this...
In fact, Interactive Brokers will not allow you to place an order on both sides of market.

Also, selling options is the only way to make money...
Options are designed for Market Makers to sell to unsophisticated traders and $$$...
For the last 30 years selling options has been a massive win except for the One Big Hit in 2008-9 Financial Crisis.

So it's OK to sell calls or puts to augment a Portfolio as long as you use Limit Orders.

In terms of the OP, I can't wait for Wall Street to roll out crypto/blockchain securities...
COIN and it's derivatives will make most BTC exchanges obsolete...
I'm already trading junior startups every day and ramping up for the coming deluge.

Only bona fide ANON crypto will survive the Wall Street takeover.

Bona fide ANON crypto eh?

Yeah whatever.  So are people actually making money shorting?  I have never tried it and to be honest it sounds like a really bad idea given the percentage gains some of these shitcoins make.  You could easily lose your nuts.

So, how are your shorts coming along?

I exited my position before I went to bed last night at a slight loss and woke up to discover that I was extremely lucky. Monero had a sharp jump in price over night. I re-entered my position and am a slight profit right now. I'm experimenting right now. Trying to figure things out.

I'm using it to make a whole bunch of derivative positions, including shorts. It looks like a good time to establish a few short-term shorts on some of the coins (such as XMR which had a positive last few hours).

Wow you can actually short altcoin now.
This will make altcoin even more volatile. Someone can take a huge position on an altcoin and then spread fuds to make people panic and sell to lower the price to buy again.

Yes. They allow you to short (or buy on margin) XMR, CLAM, XRP, STR, BTS, DASH, DOGE, and LTC.

Hell no. I don't trust those poloniex guys. Do you all? I seen another thread and most people out here seems to agree with me that poloniex is a crappy site and is to be not trusted.
Just my thought but from my experiences poloniex is a failure.

They're definately more trustworthy than Bittrex or Cryptsy. That's not saying much though.

I think most people agreed on the opposite. Poloniex is actually one of the more decent alt exchanges, with decent software and they handled a hack, albeit a minor one, pretty well. Which site would you short on?
We can go to http://www.bitfinex.com/ as well.

Shorting DASH.

Would short GavinCoin, if I was on MPEX.  Polo should list a pass-through!   Cheesy
