Doesn't it seem "natural" that if there is an S6 it will be using S5 chips? That's pretty much their style for the previous miners they produced e.g. S1/S2, S3/S4).

[Speculation] Almost certainly the S6 will use S5 chips, its not time for a gen shift yet.

Good news for me then (and for most, I'd think) ... then people have to start selling/underclocking their gear, as the new stuff tends to make the old stuff obsolete.

so the story goes on, you chase ROI until the next miner dashes all hopes

I'm glad someone else can see that pattern as well. I'd speculate we'll see that S6 in the next quarter
followed by the new chip design--S7--towards the end of the year.

my guess is an s-6 using .38 watts at the wall vs the s-5 using .51 watt at the wall

While Bitmain doesn't fab their own chips, there's usually a significant cost to step from 28nm to another process geometry. New rules, design tools, and such make it resemble a "retooling" even if it's more like engineering design and software changes. Miner manufacturers have to decide if they want to make that "investment".

Without a retool to anything below 28nm i can't see them getting anymore punch from there current 28nm chipset... Its gone thru 3 versions now & its time to ramp it up a little or is it time for the average punter to move over to Spondoolies-Tech???

Bitmain doesn't manufacturer their own chips. They use a fab like everyone else.
