Working fine again. Nothing has changed. Decided to pull out whatever (little) funds I had there for now. These things scare me Smiley

That was possible if it was down for an hour, maybe, but all day, nope.

According to BTC-e's Twitter feed:

"btc-e down"

No other details provided.

Well considering how in the the past they were just "gone" this is big step forward. Besides, it means they are functioning. Their normal DDOS just blasts them off the internet and you get nothing when you try to load them.

Thanks, good to know this is a normal spread.

Lucky for me it went down I would of ended up (if I figured out how) to deposit there so I could buy there transfer to Mt Gox and convert back to USD...but your right it was NOT that easy and many fees associated.

Still have much research to do on how to buy BTC and then sell back for USD.

I was on BTC-e a few minutes before it went down. You could buy BTC at 97.xx and on MT Gox it was in the 102.xx - 103.xx range.

I have never deposit USD to buy BTC and I was trying to do this when the site went down. I am still new to Bitcoins but it seems that the spread between BTC-e and MT Gox was large...is this normal? This could be a reason it is down at the moment.

I wouldn't consider that a large spread, it is usually off by a few dollars. I believe most people blame this on the difficulty/tx fees of getting money onto and off of the seperate exchanges. Could be wrong tho =)

nothing new
read the ANN mt posted
you cant cash out usd on mt right now.
so loads btc goes to other exchange and changes to usd
which pushes the price down

and also btc-e usd deposit cost more then others
a lot of reasons why there are gaps between all exchange

Down for me trolls and now Ddos, fuckin clowns everywhere  !!!!

We need some weaponry to fight these DDoSers! Although its obviously a botnet you can still take them out by DoSing them right back again. If someone can come up with a mechanism to fight back (would need CloudFlare or whoever to DoSing IPs available ) I will commit to making 250 Mbps of outbound traffic (UDP or TCP) available from my UK datacentres, and depending how it went we could easily increase that to 1Gbps+.

Is that even feasible? Would be awesome if we could, esp if we crowdsourced a lot of bandwidth. It could even be integrated into a coin...

Kate.

+!

I don't know anything about this but good luck trying!

It is down for me, and I've checked from other locations. Further, the Cryptsy Trollbox is saying it is down too (and trolling that they've run off with the cash of course Wink ).

I recon this is definitely an attack. The Web server is listening (hence why downforeveryoneorjustme.com is saying it is up - pretty shit site if you ask me) but it is not responding to request, suggesting a DDoS:

Code:
Lair-mini:Mining kate$ telnet btc-e.com 80
Trying 141.101.121.193...
Connected to btc-e.com.
Escape character is '^]'.
