I don't know about China's success, but I'm quite sure the times of the US dominating the world are ending. The country will soon deteriorate from the inside
Not atleast for the five years for sure, US is still holding the dominant power and they are having more support from different countries asd yes they have still powers to sanctions on China.

China has a strong enthusiasm to dominate the world, all ways can be done because of a strong ambition to become a superpower, but the US will certainly not just stand still, and will continue to compete closely with China. although China has the largest population, of course, the US will take action to continue to compete with China. In addition, the existence of Covid-19 can certainly weaken China and will greatly impact the economy.

I also think that over time China may be world power number one! In the last 10-15 years, their economy has made a huge leap forward!
And now we can say "the whole world is made in China"! Grin

I would rather agree with you, although the majority of the people are going to disagree. I hate China as much as I can, but it is difficult to ignore real hard facts.

The Chinese economy is growing at a steady rate. And this has happened despite various temporary setbacks such as companies moving their manufacturing units to India and the Philippines. It is just a matter of time before the Chinese economy overtakes the debt-ridden Americans.

China obviously have a number of advantages, which no other country can possess. First of all, it is a homogenous country, with more than 95% of the population comprised of Han Chinese and related ethnic groups (such as Manchu and Zhuang). Compare this to countries such as India and the US, where there is a lot of ethnic/racial/religious tension. Also, China is having an authoritarian government and they have the liberty to put in place fiscally conservative measures. This is not possible in democratic nations such as the US and India. And this is why nations such as the US are drowning in federal debt, while China is thriving.
There is also a huge amount of cheap labor in China, so ALL world corporations are creating their own factories there...
Hence the theft of new technologies and China is already producing quite good cheap smartphones or cars ... Grin

Countries around the world have taken steps to produce masks, gowns, test kits and other equipment to fight coronavirus such as China. China has also laid the groundwork for dominance in the defense and medical equipment market over the next few years and has advanced plans for longevity, but I don't think that's ever possible because no country wants to give up its own intervention.

China has already dominated the world.
Even from the fact that they are the biggest producer of face masks you can recognize that. They are getting rich in this pandemic era while other countries do not have money to feed their people.

There is now transitioning of power that is happening and for sure that China will become no.1 country in these years. This is fact and they are now making a move. I want all of you to observe that most of the major stockholders of international companies are Chinese, they are now gaining more power to dominate the world. Their economy is continuing to get stronger in these past years, many countries are also have high debt in China.

Is China going to dominate the world?
Yes, I think so, based on trajectory over the last few decades. It depends on your metric, but this site provides some useful comparators (albeit 18 months old).
You also mentioned the China/India 'conflict'. This I think is a separate issue and the Himalayas will become more of a battleground in the decades to come as growing populations combine with climate change to make control of water sources tremendously important (see also the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam).

Pretty interesting graph by the way, I've never seen this before. Per Capita though is going to be one that is going to be heavily skewed towards the US looking much better, obvs though -- as China has had rapid RAPID RAPID population growth alongside their economic growth, while not the same thing can be said in the US in regards to population growth.

Obviously the US has had population growth as well. Though we all know that China has even had to institute policies such to stop this growth --> 1 Child (and now 2 Child policy) for people.

trump is preventing the world to get dependent on china's economy, if someone gets dependent on chinese economy its their own fault.

There is a big chance to dominate the world by China. We know China is growing up fast in their economy. So it could happen. But there are some problems occurring in China like a border issue, Covid-19. Whatever they could overcome all the problem and become a King replacing the USA.

certainly not easy to be able to replace a country that has become the largest in all fields with other countries. China also has its own share in all sectors owned and traded. of course it is not easy to take the existing market share quickly, especially not only because of the corona pandemic, because it takes a long time for a country to control a sector.

China has so far advanced and famous for its renewable technology and the most important thing of course is the price offered is quite tempting for a country that is economically in dire need at such low prices.

so in fact, when it comes to trade, of course all countries have very different market shares and all are familiar with the traded ones.

This is doubtful, without a doubt the rise of China has been incredibly fast and now they are using the power they have accumulated during the last decades to try to begin to influence the world, but due to the coronavirus crisis governments are realizing the power they had given to China and now they are trying to correct the situation by bringing back the capital, the industries and the technology they have basically given China for free.

This is going to eventually slow down the growth of China and if we add the demographic crisis that they are facing I doubt they're going to become as powerful as some people believe.

When I was a little boy back in my primary school, teachers and the elderly people I know around me do tell me how China is the largest economy in the world which we weren't given some comparison or competitors to them being the best, mostly things we used in our homes and place of work is a 100% made in china even my mobile smartphone is China made.

China is the second largest economy in the world. The cold war between China and USA and the tension between India and China on the line of actual control. China is challenging USA in every filed. What do you think is China going to dominate the world or USA will be the super power.

USA is already a super power but the future is of china. In the last couple of decades china has progressed much better than the US and they are economically  more strong than Americans. However it will not be easy for china or any country to dominate the super power and it will take a lot of time and struggle if they want to do so.
We don't even know if China wants to rule the world. Until now, most global domination involved a military aspect, even governments motivated by commerce had a huge army. China has not shown any sign that if wants to be military involved in the global scene. They might be forced to do so if some of their strategic investments go south in Africa for instance, but for now they remain a commercial super power and not a "real one" in the traditional sense.

I also agree with the general sentiment here, mainly due to the fact that the US is essentially the only remaining superpower right now in the world (militarily speaking). But other than that, China is no doubt an economic superpower indeed. And on that note, is only halfway there compared to where the US is currently in at the moment.
Well I would argue that the US are losing influence every day, but they are doing so willingly. Americans' standard of living is declining so people do not want to spend money in something they consider useless or non profitable (because they think this money is better spent in another way).
We'll see how things go in the future, but it wouldn't surprise me that china begins to invest massively in the military to have a sort of global hegemony.

I really look forward to the moment when people finally understand that in order to live happily in harmony with themselves and with the world around them, we doesn't need to show aggression, we doesn't need to dominate someone, we doesn't need wars.  And then this whole system in the form of religions, political systems, etc. will be a thing of the past Smiley

Who knows but as of now maybe it wont and it can. in my own opinion its a process because the Philippine President sell part of the countries lang and without knowing it while every country and Philippines itself it busy about COVID-19 China built their base on Philippine Island that is now probably is part of china itself .

Also I dont know if its true because of an article I read from the internet the China's President that they are having a good situation between Thailand that is because of of blackpink Lisa who is a Thai. As some of you all know that Thailand is a developing country, so I thought of this answer that could be connected.

Although China may be a very developed country in terms of economy it'll not be ready to influence the entire world because it'll have the support of all countries. There are many countries that don't support China during which case it's usually beyond the imagination of the folks that China will exert influence.

If the whole world refuses to import Chinese goods, the Chinese economy will not withstand such a blow, as most of the goods created by them are exported. So I believe that any dominant country can be weakened by such restrictions and sanctions.

+1 to that.

China, at the moment, relies HEAVILY on the exportation of goods to other countries. They'd take a real blow of a large number of the countries of the world with the biggest marketplaces (EU and US) told them that they're no longer be accepting their products into their countries.

That's not to take away from the fact that the EU and the US would also have to pay more for their goods (Smartphones, electronics, cheap goods, etc) but it's still something we'd have to remember. Can't just cut off trade with the largest nation when it comes to exportation and think you're going to shift supply lines pretty easily.

I think just the threat of this, and that being a credible threat, would help in forcing China to start adhering to IP and to not dump products (like steel) to attempt to kill American companies. Also they're hopefully open up their economy to the rest of the world.s

In my opinion, we now have a multi polar globe with several regional powers developing and acting in their nearby territories. This is especially true these last few months/years, with China getting more aggressive on the south-east Pacific and Russia involved in regional conflicts outside of it's traditional sphere of influence (Syria). Let just hope that these superpowers do not collide and keep content with their current situation.

These countries have been at war a long time. Many do not see this war because it is fundamentally different from the wars that were before.

Maybe, but the tensions we have seen in the last few months/years are much more serious than the threats in the past. I mean, in 2000 nobody would contest the USA in anyway. China and Russia were very silent and were not even active in their region of influence. Now we have open economic wars and countries like China/Russia are military active in foreign countries. It's a huge difference.

I think that China is stronger than the United States and it is very likely that China will become the dominant and strongest country in the world. I have heard from some news that China is working to establish its own cryptocurrency aimed at destroying the dollar and eliminating it.
Maybe that is true because I think China has a plan to dominate the world by trying to spreads its business to many countries.
As we see now, that China's company already exists in many countries, and they slowly become a giant among the others.
They trying to send their product to all countries, and try to compete with the other company from the big countries.
And it's not impossible that sooner or later, China will dominate the world with every product they have.
Maybe China will soon have their own cryptocurrency with its plan.
But I hope that they don't make a mess with the other countries for the competition.

No doubt that China is now holding the momentum of power and economic growth, it also holds a huge number of military. But we can't deny the fact that United States is also powerful. Therefore if China would step in the line to control the world, then there should be a war.

It can only dominate the world if the rest of the world gets indoctrinated by same ideas that China's trying to impose on its sitizens. Which is quite impossible

I agree, we will see China keep rising to more power in the world but not surpassing the west world in my opinion.

China will keep getting more powerful, but in the end difference in democracy vs communism will force the world to change. Either the west will move towards communism itself, which is very unlikely in my opinion. Or china has to change and transform to a democracy.

China has already started recovering their economy because they have stopped the virus from spreading in their country, even they are one of the countries who have virus cases and deaths. But in my own opinion, it is most likely impossible for China to dominate the world because they still need to make a few adjustments for them to surpass other countries.

Situation now is two countries fighting for power. Even if it becomes the biggest economy in the world, which is likely to happen, will it dominate the world? I'm saying this because I don't feel dominated by the US.
It's a matter of perspective which country is going to become more aggressive in a few years. The US engaged in more military conflicts than China, so there's that.

we must acknowledge that China has penetrated all sectors and is able to do well and has minimal costs. it must be admitted that China is able to keep abreast of developments well and be able to adjust to the circumstances in which the country will be addressed. but the economic power will not change still can still be controlled by the US. however, in some industrial sectors, the strength of the US is very trusted because the quality and programs that are carried out are able to maintain the image so that it becomes its own trust.

China was no doubt considered as a next super power of the world but they have been badly effected by covid-19. This has put them in the back foot and they need to recover well from their declining  economic situation. Also at the same time, India has created tensions on their border. However they dealt in a good way but still when you have a lot of enemies especially in your neighbor, its always hard to focus on development of the country.

India, Pakistan, France and UK can much faster and easier destroy the whole world then North Korea. North Korea is drastically overrated. Media made it so and USA politics abused that in the past. It si much easier to rule when you have enemies that people fear of.

You underestimate North Korea very much. It is one of the countries with nuclear weapons that may disagree with the US in any matter and is not afraid of any sanctions. The North Korean government acts only for the interests of its country.

I think the world cannot be unipolar or bipolar at the moment. So neither China nor the US can be considered the dominant power. There are at least four powers that can destroy the whole world - the US, Russia and China, and North Korea.

They can because they are capable but many countries hate China for their totalitarian, even their people in HongKong do not want main China to be a world leader, because they are very oppressive, they rule by intimidation, they want all the seas the land and everything they can claim.

I dont think at this kind of situation wherein we are currently under the pandemic china will going to dominate the world. I dont think china can do it ALONE. There are a lot of countries out there that could join together and could possibly dominate the world but having china alone is more likely to be imposible.

I think the world cannot be unipolar or bipolar at the moment. So neither China nor the US can be considered the dominant power. There are at least four powers that can destroy the whole world - the US, Russia and China, and North Korea.

Is China going to dominate the world?
China is the second largest economy in the world. The cold war between China and USA and the tension between India and China on the line of actual control. China is challenging USA in every filed. What do you think is China going to dominate the world or USA will be the super power.

No one can dominate the world anymore.  There are 3 strong players and 4th is growing. USA, China and EU. India id getting close to them in next decades. When world power is so evenly divided there cant be single entity to dominate.

China will find it easier to dominate the countries that are indebted to them, for example there are a lot of countries, especially in Africa that owe China a lot of money, and even before the outbreak of corona virus these governments do not even have the resources or plans to pay back in the near future, the aftermath of covid-19 makes it more improbable for them not to default on the loans; this can play well into Chinese hands. They can slowly gain control of these countries (territories within them) and their resources in exchange for the money owed, a situation that could lead to neocolonialism in the long run.

But dominating the entire world is beyond China, they may have a good and fast growing economy, but to dominate the entire world, they need to surpass other nations, especially economically and in defense (military) and they need strong allies with other world powers (China are making more enemies than friends atm).
The US are currently ahead of china and the world in these aspects and I don't think China can usurp them.

Yes, I think so. Every big and strong country will want to dominate the world, especially if they have resources to do that.
They will slowly compete with the other country in the same region as them, and after they can beat that country, they will challenge the other country which is bigger than their country.
And soon, after they beat that bigger country, they will try to force their rule to the small country and another country, and if necessary, they will force with power.
They will not stop doing that until their plan can achieve success, no matter how long it will happen.

China is already dominating the world.
It is not the second largest economy but the first strongest one. They have also the biggest population in the world and the biggest workforce in the planet with makes them an economic super power.

@sum99 the answer to your question lies in the speech given by China’s President Xi Jinping in 2017, where he laid down the plans for China to dominate the global economy and the world by 2049. Also I know many will discount the possibility of this happening, but the reality is China has already laid a roadmap for it, and if all the countries don’t united against China then their domination plan will succeed, and it’ll be too late to stop them.

Quote

Xi declared that China “has stood up, grown rich, and is becoming strong,” and that it was now “blazing a new trail for other developing countries” and offering “Chinese wisdom and a Chinese approach to solving the problems facing mankind.” By 2049, Xi promised, China would “become a global leader in terms of composite national strength and international influence” and would build a “stable international order” in which China’s “national rejuvenation” could be fully achieved.

I think it is possible for China to become the next superpower. If you look at human history all empires rise, peak and then fall. Look at the Roman Empire, Dutch Empire, British, etc. No Empire can last forever. Me living in the USA I can see how everything is falling apart.

I agree but at the moment the Chinese military is no match for the USA. It will still take a long time for china to surpass the west. The trade wars will likely continue and intensify. Don't forget China is being build on the back of their own population offering products to the west.

I don't think the West will just follow China in their communistic dictatorship approach to run a country. Eventually the chinese people will demand more rights. I would assume we will see an alignment of China with the west in the long run. You can't controll your population for ever with increasing technology.

Pretty interesting graph by the way, I've never seen this before. Per Capita though is going to be one that is going to be heavily skewed towards the US looking much better, obvs though
True, but whilst the US has had x5 growth in GDP per capita, China has had x40 in the same time - admittedly from a low starting point.
I do like that style of graph, I think it illustrates points that might not be apparent with more standard techniques. There is a CV19 chart I shared a couple of months ago that employs a similar approach.

Dominating the world is not just a numbers games. It takes a combination of wealth, millitary coercion and a lot of Soft power emanating from ideology. Military coercion stems from technology which the Chinese have caught up to thanks to three things. Chinese govt sponsored espionage, West's gullibility and like in case of those university professors, individuals selling off souls for money.

Also, IP theft. China doesn't have to pay shit for R&D so they save money by just stealing whatever the U.S. develops. And the U.S. spends an absurd amount on R&D in regards to the military.

Military coercion also needs bodies. Chinese state propagnda does that job quite well. Media and film industry in China has also been playing its role in invoking the historic threads about the greatness of Chinese achievements (which frankly are not to be overlooked). As per Indian strategists, the morale and nationalist fervor is a manufactured one amongst the Chinese. Not a real, human spirited love of your country. I mean how much can you love a country that is run by a cabal of Single party representative, tracks and censors every single one of your actions and thoughts to make sure you fall in line. Don't forget this is a party that turned their students into red mush when they protested.

All these things ensure that the Chinese can never have the soft power of persuasion that the US has enjoyed for most of the 20th century. This corona virus fiasco, their attempts at buying off corporations in cash-strapped countries, bribing off officials to permeate policy making, Debt-diplomacy in the form of BRI. There is enough evidence to show that the Chinese juggernaut is basically an ethic-less, cold killing machine. Will the world allow itself to be browbeaten by this bully??

I still have enough faith in democracies and the human spirit to accept that. Fuck you commies.

NO, I don't think so china's gonna dominate the world in any way . Yes maybe it could become strongest economic superpower of the world but domination is just different thing .
China will also face heavy trade wars soon according to experts . China is somehow facing negative effect of Covid in terms of getting power because of many reasons like oil price fluctuation , less exports and imports and so on.
And what i predict is that USA will make a comeback for sure post covid. Roll Eyes

China is the manufacturing hub of this world, without China we can't produce most of our daily using products but world learnt their lesson from covid 19 so most of the countries are trying to move their manufacturing companies away from China which itself shows that China is not yet got the power to dominate the world.

It has been talked about for a previous couple of years but nobody is supporting it that China will run the entire world China is trying to dominate the planet through various strategies but the Indian government has opposed it with US President Ronald Trump. If the planet returns to its former position on global climate change there'll be no change in China's influence.
