Not at all, there is a lot of option for mining, some unknows altcoins can be even more profitable to mining over Eth or some big coins, you need to make some good research to find a good one.
You forget to mention the unknown coin has the more chance to make us get a big zonk for the time that we have wasted to mine such garbage coin. I have seen some old thread that said the creator has tried to main unknown coin but it became a coin with no value.

Have you tried to mine Zcash or Monero? The price of Zcash has been rising since March.

In my opinion Ethereum is the best choice besides Bitcoin for now and beyond, with unlimited capacity and Ethereum is indeed a better alternative than Bitcoin as a whole.
Yes indeed, but as long as OP has the high-end equipment plus low electricity cost and if not, then mining is not really for him. Besides, why mine when you can just buy and sell since bull run is nearly coming next year that would be a great opportunity to sell if you have accumulated coins today. Don't just waste your time finding some altcoins to mine because mining is not really recommendable these days unless if you have the right equipment and is free for using electricity.

Hello all,

I was lately checking the options for minable altcoins and apart from ETH I couldn't see anything else worth mining at the time being. I know that mining is almost dead now, but considering a future altcoins price increase, Ethereum seems the safest bet.

When ETC 2 come, then things may change.

What alternative options would you consider for altcoin mining?

If you have a good CPU you should mine Monero. No specialised miners needed beside decent CPU.

Never did mined any coin but thanks to let us know i will tried with monero the first time!
Yes you can possibly mine XMR with CPU but expect that you would just earn pennies in spite on spending long hours on using up your pc processor.
You can check out on minergate but dont let your hopes gets too high because it isnt feasible on mining it with least resources but if you are just mining
for the sake of exploring or educational purposes then its worth to try it out.

In topic where we do talk about ETH mining. Yeah its worth but all things varies on electricity cost in your place.

In fact Ethereum is the only altcoin option even if you are looking to invest other than mining, eth 2.0 is coming with a deflationary model and pos that will make eth very expensive in my opinion.

I won't recommend you to mine if you don't have a low electricity cost because mining cryptocurrency will need electricity and high-end hardware. If you don't have those two things, it will be difficult for you to profit from mining.

Thanks a lot for your answers fellows. To answer the first 2 replies I agree with your logic, but what happens when you don't have the funds to buy the coins you want to, but instead you have some equipment that can get you some?
And I mean to mine with a small profit (small but profit).
In this case is ethereum the best option? I believe that yes, instead of looking for anything else. Maybe there are other coins too that can do the job. I don't know.

You can try it to see how good your profit. But if you can not make a profit, then maybe mining is not for you. The important thing in mining is you have a low electricity cost and high-end hardware.

Ethereum can be the best option, but that will depend on how good your equipment.

How can you say like that? if you are wanna still mining altcoin and i suggest you move to the cryptonight coin and the small miners can still get profit and so many small miners have been moving from ethereum to the cryptonight coin like monero, zcoin and many more. You can also mine zcash too.

Mining is not totally a bad idea if you have the cash and can afford electricity I will recommend you check and calculate your profit and see if you can keep up. Truth is it takes getting use to and patience if you want profit in mining

You should move this topic to the mining section for altcoins since this topic is more related to mining profitability in a small scale. But if you are here speculating the price of what you mine I think that you are right you will be running your operations at a loss and your only chance for profit is for Ethereum to rise which will always be a question mark for every speculators. I won't advise you to mine cryptos if you you can't profit from your daily operations because you are basically doubling your risk when you know for yourself your mining operations is at a loss on a daily basis and you are just depending your profit in speculation, you might lose more money rather than earn anything so maybe buying Ethereum in the first place and hodling them is a much better idea.

In that case, I have to think about sacrificing my mining equipement and divert into a new phase of investment which is buying potential altcoins. I understand the underlying risk facing into a new one but have to think in a practical manner knowing that mining isn't really good at this time.

And I mean to mine with a small profit (small but profit).

It gonna be the first option other than Bitcoin.
Anyway, that is too risky to invest only one coin, and having those other potential altcoins will it something to make it better and lesser risk.
You'll have something to know more if you have more time in crypto and you truly understand what you are doing away from mining.

Some say that mining calculator arent relevant but this is somewhat a good place to check out.
There are still coins that are profitable to mine.It all varies on how much energy cost you do have in your place.

Mining for alts yes but mining bitcoin isn't dead though it's expensive. Try the other consensus of mining if the hardware you have isn't suitable anymore.

Another ETH version 2 speculation?Mining is not that profitable now so why need to risk your money just to speculate "What IF"?

Just like what the Post above says,Better Invest in Ethereum thru Holding because this is much cheaper than providing miner to look for ETH2 result(things that has no clarity when will be released)

Anyway its Your money and it is your choice, but don't forget that 2 of us gave you the same advice.

Mining should never get mixed with price speculation. Why would you mine at a loss now hoping for a price increase? Why don't you just buy and hold if that's the only reason? This way the profit would be bigger.
So.. find a coin you can mine at a profit. If you don't find such a coin, better don't mine. If you've found a profitable coin, mine as long as you are on profit (very careful with the electricity price!!) and sell/convert into any coin you want to hold or into fiat if you don't care about holding.
