As the original poster of this thread, I want to say I totally respect Satoshi's desire to bow out when he did.
Adam Levine on Lets Talk Bitcoin (podcast) aptly pointed out the other day that he believes the decision was made, at least in part, because some very powerful organisations, people, and international structures may be utterly abolished by Bitcoin. It quite simply would not be a desireable thing to be the name and the face they all point to when it happens.
I get it.
Not sure he was thinking that far ahead when he made it. There's no telling if he "knew" what would come of Bitcion, or if he's sitting there utterly amazed himself right now. But you'd have to be a fool to realize what this technology is capable of doing, and plaster your face all over it.
More importantly, Bitcoin is, by its very definition, decentralization. There shouldn't be a single point of origin for it. Its everyone's. We all own it. We are all creating its success. That much I am sure Satoshi thought about when he exploded into pixie dust.
In any case, I hope this thread isn't viewed as an irritating "drawer of attention" to sniffing him out. I was just excited to read his posts and analyze his thinking processes in various discussions.
