Hey so im still fairly new to the space, ive been investing for about 7 month now and thought about going to a conference. im not to social of a person but i feel like it would be a good opportunity to just be around the environment. Has anyone been to one? and do you think its a valuable experience?
I may not have been into a crypto conference but I know the experience will be worth your time. As much as you want to learn, you will definitely gain a lot of new insights and new perspectives about bitcoin that will be very much helpful as you conquer the uncertainties and lessen the risks investing and trading with bitcoin. So never give it a doubt, it will be a good opportunity not only for a newbie but certainly for all crypto or bitcoin enthusiasts.

Since I stopped investing in Bitcoin a while ago, I am also an asocial person, and I haven't tried going to any conferences or other gatherings related to cryptocurrencies. I met a lot of people online who share my interest in cryptocurrencies and most of them have previously been to events linked to it. So, it's actually not that horrible. Go if you want to attend and have the time. There, you might pick up fresh information or make new crypto buddies. Who knows, maybe it will inspire you to pursue a career in cryptocurrency.

Attending any BTC/cryptocurrency conference is absolutely worthwhile. Not only do you learn the principles of BTC, but you also have the opportunity to ask questions of everyone who attended. This type of participatory experience makes these types of conferences extremely important and beneficial, particularly if you are new to the cryptocurrency world. There is a whole lot to learn in bitcoin conferences.

Definitely it is. It will be another valuable experience since you will learn a lot more from the speaker or from the other participants in the conference. Also it will give you more courage and determination to pursue  your goal in bitcoin as you will also be taught a lot of proven strategies how to gain and earn more bitcoin.

If you have knowledge about bitcoin then going on conference is just a waste of your time because for sure they will just tell you the basics and the history of bitcoin. But if you don't know about it better start with it since somehow you can gain knowledge with them, but make sure that you go on legitimate conference where main intention is to educate people about bitcoin and not those scam platform who hype people then offer scams.
It will always bring a positive experience attending a conference because even if you know you are knowledgeable enough, you can still gain additional information there and you will hear from others their different experiences in bitcoin. That way, you can share to others too what you have in your mind. Of course, before attending such conference, confirm it first if it’s legit or not so you won’t be wasting your time and effort.

I don't think going to conference is a waste of time even if you are not new to bitcoin, we keep on learning on a daily basic, we know they will talk about history of bitcoin and basics of bitcoin, but they might still talk about things that you haven't heard before or things you don't know and it's basic of bitcoin, nobody knows all and bitcoin is wide, I have been in crypto space for few year's and I do attend some conferences, even if they are teaching basic of bitcoin I still learn from them, I always bring myself very low and always assume I don't know anything about bitcoin so I think attending conference is not a bad idea. But as Taskford said make sure you do your research before attending conference to know if you are going for a right conference, some will just want to brain wash you then scam you later.

It seems to me that the value of such conferences is the opportunity to make useful contacts and surround yourself with people who are successful in crypto investing or involved in it. So if you can afford it, I think it's worth it. Just check the legitimacy of the conference so as not to get caught by scammers or something like that.

Never have been on any Bitcoin conferences. But I do have friends who have good amount of knowledge and experiences with it comes to Bitcoin and crypto space. Because of that, I was able to learn about bitcoin.
If you really like/want to feed yourself with more knowledge, I would suggest you to also go on those conferences that you're referring to. It will help you so much for sure as you can learn from other people and maybe get some advices from some of the most experienced person there.

Most of us today tend to learn online because they provide us with quite complete knowledge. But it won't be bad if we take a little time to attend bitcoin conferences because we can meet, exchange, connect with many investors, people share knowledge together, knowledge is very vast sometimes things we would never find on the internet without someone to guide us.
But please make sure that the conference is held for the purpose of exchanging, sharing and connecting with each other and not for the purpose of marketing altcoin projects. We should walk away or reject it immediately if we discover it, it just wastes our time.
I never said that going to conferences is bad! I was only weighing the best options to learning for the OP since conferences only crash the surface and might give insights that you will still have to work upon by yourself online. It is the option of the OP now, if serious learning is needed, then he should go for my advice. And if associating, links and some crypto discussions are what he needs, he might want to go for the conference option.

I am not saying it is bad to go to conferences, but in my view, conferences should be for the informed people that want to associate mainly. The dedicated learning/training is on the internet, which includes webinars that can perfectly replace the conference.

It all depends on you on how you want to learn about cryptocurrency and the time you can spare for this purpose. As for me, the best way to learn cryptocurrency is online, you can read as many as possible articles and blogs about cryptocurrencies online and also watch some useful videos about the practicals.

These will teach you the in-debt of the subject matter in the comfort of your home better than going for conferences that might be for a particular topic, with questions and answers only.

If there is such chance to attend the conference, this will be good for us. However, there, we will meet with many people who probably mostly it will have similar mindset, prospects, and also goals about Bitcoin. The environment may be different, but at least we can take some advantages by attending such a ocnference.
We can get not only additional knowledge about Bitcoin, investment, and also crypto istelf, but we will also get another experience, relations, and more people to know. You may also talk and discuss about something worthy there moroeverif you have any question.

Attending conferences might or might not be a fantastic decision. Everything comes down to your expectations and aspirations. There are several reasons why people go to conferences. Personally, as a participant in the cryptocurrency ecosystem, you should network, exchange ideas, and form bonds with those who share your interests. With people I met at a Blockchain conference, I have made lasting connections, and it was because of one of those friendships that I formed a partnership that doubled my income. Prior to the conference, make a list of your objectives, and make sure to follow through on them while there.

Can't say for sure what would go on with the smaller local bitcoin conferences; they might end up promoting some cloud mining scheme or something.
You are absolutely correct about this, I personally have once attended a local bitcoin conference here in Nigeria which was organized by some group of boys, initially, I thought the conference was organized by some well reputable bitcoin investors, which is what motivated me to want to attend in the first place.

But on getting there, everything was so disorganized, there was no coordination, even the hosters of the conference lacked thorough knowledge of how bitcoin operates, at some point, they started promoting an altcoin (name withheld), asked us to invest in the token that it was going make many people rich, they even called the founder of the project on a video call and told us to ask him whatever we want to know about the project.

It was a really sad experience for me, as I not only wasted my money to transport myself to the place, I also wasted my precious 10 hours which I would have used for some thing more productive.
Since then, I've vowed never to attend any local conference again, but only international ones, but this would be when I've become a millionaire and able to travel round the world.  Cool

I read your earlier replies in this thread and it kind of reminded me another thread where I also mentioned about $5 wrench attacks. I would probably not join any sort of conference that involves even my whole subdivision community even if I am somehow close to some of my neighbors. It is kind of letting most people there know that you could potentially hold something valuable at your house. That kind of scenario will kind of trigger my security check around my house after the conference. It surely will be paranoid reaction from some users here, but I heard horror stories already of people being robbed.

This! The privacy risk is high when attending such conferences, and this risk increases when it is around your locality.

Yep. The last thing you'd want is someone to follow you as you leave the conference and hit you with the $5 wrench attack.

Can be mitigated by carrying a concealed gun with you to the conference.

If it's a "state-of-bitcoin" type of conference, then technical people and/or developers probably have to attend to make their views and ideas heard. These guys probably possess a lot of bitcoins, so some security precautions are necessary to protect themselves and keep some state of order.

Experience is the best way to learn if you have a circle of known people and have some talk and conversation to them about the crypto or the bitcoin there's a chance that you can learn more it is really worth it to attend some meeting, conference and seminar reltead to this
It is not a bitcoin conference when you sit and discuss about bitcoin with 'known' people, you can talk about bitcoin with your family and friends at the dinner table or maybe in a leisure time you guys spend together, that is not the what is being discussed in this topic, the discussion is about a proper bitcoin conference with many people in attendance, and if it is not within your area you will have to travel many hours to attend it, a conference that has many speakers, etc.

Needless to say that either bitcoin conferences, seminar or bitcoin little gatherings with your folks isn't the best way to learn about bitcoin, many of the things that will be discussed are what you know, and can easily find by yourself, and if you are a beginner that does not know anything at all, you won't understand what is going on in the conference because they will not go all over the basics, so i feel any way one looks at it, you will learn more all by yourself if you are determined to do so.

But personally, I wouldn't go to one. The bigger conferences have their content free on YouTube anyway. I wouldn't risk my privacy(might be a honeypot *wears tinfoil hat*) just to see it live, unless I'm there to promote a business/service and/or connect with people.
I guess that depends whether or not anyone can enter or if there is a sign-up form where you have to submit personal information and show ID on entry. And while you are there, you can make up a story how you are brand new and have very little knowledge. If you are holding 100s of BTC, no one needs to know. If you are profitable trader driving a Lambo, no one needs to know that either. Role playing. Smiley

The best option is the one you mentioned.  Livestreams.  Although I do not think I have ever heard about a large conference being live streamed on YouTube, would you mind sharing a few names?
I am sure that during the COVID outbreak, most of the crypto conferences were online-based virtual events. Restrictions made it impossible for too many people to stay in the same room, so there was no other choice than organizing them online and selling some sort of virtual tours. But I don't have any names, sorry.

Attending a bitcoin conference is a good idea , some people learn faster when they are In an interactive room and what they have grab from speaker will remain in them. Going to a bitcoin conference you need to be also smart because some speakers who organise conference do it to make money ,some don't have any knowledge to give out.

Unless the Bitcoin conference you go attend to is crap.

Tip: If you really really want to go to a Bitcoin conference, do research on who the speakers are. You mostly wouldn't want a bunch of random nobody's.

What is the reason of going to the conference when you have known bitcoin and also using it bto trade for about 7 months plus. Although new knowledge might be gotten from conf. If you are not satisfied with the knowledge you on bitcoin and you bwant to expand the knowledge on it then it is good you attend the conference. Attending different conferences or seminars also help to expand the knowledge on bitcoin. Like many people have Cryptocurrencies or bitcoin in particular knowledge before but as they came here to the forum they have learned new things and also educated people on what they have learnt. The experience is always a good one because you will learn new things if you ask questions at the end of the conference. That is anything you are not good with or sure of will be answered but the speakers in the conference. But if you have learned then you can just go and listen to the topics and analys it on your own ways.

Here's what can go wrong in a Bitcoin conference:

  • They shill you shitcoins. (Yes, in a Bitcoin conference, I know)
  • They say things you've heard before.
  • They misinform you. (and funnily enough, you know they're wrong)
  • You can get victim of a $5 wrench attack.

It reminds me of the first time going into a crypto conference last 2018. For most of the time I was an introvert guy. But I am no stranger when it comes to communicating and networking with people during my days as a network marketer. But of course, crypto conferences are way more different than network marketing conventions and events.

While I was there sitting at the back, a foreigner guy who used to work in OKEx (now OKX) back then approached and networked with me. I wasn’t really getting used to talk to foreigners back then, but I have slowly adjusted and appreciated the experience. Fast forward to today, I was just active attending crypto conferences and events to network with others.

Not once have I gone to a bitcoin conference or anything so far. I love learning, but I don't like how people talk about other people's success that I don't think has anything to do with the lesson I want. Most of the conferences I hear are about investing or how to make a profit and financial management, rarely any technical issues are discussed.

I don't think it's worth it, but maybe some people are interested in hearing about other people's successes so they can learn something from the investing aspect. But I can really say bitcoin forum are much better than conferences.

You do not need to be so social at conference. I am an introvert and even though I do not feel comfortable in groups, I still enjoy attending something that I am interested.
It should be an experience for you, OP. If you have other higher priorities at the moment, it might not be worth it at all so just go for it if you indeed have plenty of spare time.
You might be able to learn a thing or two in that conference since it is group discussion anyway.

I would be looking forward to attend one someday and I wish I could be luckier in schedule, so go for it if you can, OP.

It depends on what you expect to get out of it. For me, I would only be interested in the possibility of learning something new (something fundamental). Right now, my needs are more than met by this forum, YouTube and reading books, articles, papers, etc. so I personally don't see the appeal.

This sounds very paranoid to me, and I would personally take an extremely slight chance of something happening to me than go through life with that mindset, constantly thinking what can go wrong. Sure, I won't go to a dodgy part of town to some shady conference, but I also won't stop me from doing some things just because there is a minuscule chance of a bad thing happening.
But of course, there's something called instinct. I've learnt never to argue with mine. Once it comes up whenever I want to take a vital decision, I go with my instinct. It's not a question of me trying to satisfy a curiosity or justify how manly I am. Remember that axiom – curiosity kills the cat? That's right. I rather take a decision that excludes me from unnecessary adrenaline rush than indulge it and don't be at ease while it lasted because I'm curious to find out something. Being paranoid, if you asked me, isn't after all a bad thing.

Coming up or my growth in Crypto-currency has lead me to so much enquiries about Crypto-currency in general and that includes going to conferences, seminars and workshops. But I can give you some note you should be aware.
#Do not go to any conference as a dummy: what I am saying here is going to a Bitcoin conference without first having little knowledge isn't beneficial, also have little knowledge can even make you engage the speakers more.

#know the difference from Crypto-currency conference and advert, I have made this mistake thinking I was going to a seminar about Crypto only to find out that it was a scheme by a project to tell people about themselves.

#Be ready to learn and unlearn when preparing for it. Knowledge is meant to be flexible doing this would increase your Crypto-currency growth.

Attending any conference that talks about BTC/cryptocurrency is definitely worth it. Not only do you learn firsthand the fundamentals of BTC but you also have the opportunity to ask questions to all the people that attended. This kind of interactive experience makes these types of conference very essential and helpful especially if you are new to the cryptocurrency space.

Back in 2017, I also attended this conference (unfortunately, it was a ponzi conference USI-TECH) in our country. I was able to talk to various people who invested in this scheme and they provided and taught me the basics of cryptocurrencies. Though I highly advise that you prevent investing in ponzi-schemes. But my point here is that, conferences discussing a certain topic will always be worth it!

Yes it is an experience you cannot do without, it's going to be a remarkable one indeed especially if it's a global conference that brings together cryptopreneurs from different parts of the world
As someone who attended a couple of bitcoin (and crypto in general) conferences, I can tell you that its definitely something you can live without.

What if those putting up the conference aren't genuine Bitcoiners and aren't out to actually teach but to get contacts of people they're likely going to snoop on later? What if they're scammers who might likely ask to trade for you or provide one signal or the other? Besides, you've to reckon that once you put yourself out there and mingle with people you truly don't know; your privacy is compromised.

Introverts don't like socializing. If I'm correct of what you've described of yourself im not to social of a person, you seem to be an introvert. So, I'm wondering why you still want to get in the mix with a crowd of people you truly can't judge what they're capable of? There are many "what ifs" here. You've to consider all the salient issues raised here and then decide whether you want to go that way or simply continue to learn online from the comfort of your room.

[Nope]No hype delivers more than hope
Such conferences are generally sponsored by several corporate brands, depending on the scale of the event. Actually the point of the show is not bitcoin lessons, but (say) 70-80% is marketing where most of the speakers are promoters.
And yeah, nothing is truly free to share anything in this world without getting what it deserves. If I had to attend this kind of conference, I would have to camouflage with zero crypto knowledge and act unconcerned about any offer.

It depends — what bitcoin conference specifically? I've seen a good number of Bitcoin conferences online, but those are the bigger more reputable ones. Can't say for sure what would go on with the smaller local bitcoin conferences; they might end up promoting some cloud mining scheme or something.

But personally, I wouldn't go to one. The bigger conferences have their content free on YouTube anyway. I wouldn't risk my privacy(might be a honeypot *wears tinfoil hat*) just to see it live, unless I'm there to promote a business/service and/or connect with people.

So i was interested in going to the Bitcoin Conference Miami 2023.

Hey so im still fairly new to the space, ive been investing for about 7 month now and thought about going to a conference. im not to social of a person but i feel like it would be a good opportunity to just be around the environment. Has anyone been to one? and do you think its a valuable experience?
I've been into one but basically, it's no longer like an unknown found gem in the forest when I joined that conference. Because the knowledge they've shared isn't really new. They're like the ones that are being taught in the forum by the experts here then.
But I think that conference isn't all about sharing knowledge about blockchain, bitcoin, and the entire crypto but just for socialization and I think they're, the organizer, was successful if that's the case.

Its the BTC Conference Miami 2023. The prior ones look like a great experience. What im really looking to accomplish from going to try and meet people that share the same interest as me. Right now i dont really have anyone i could talk to ab btc or crypto.
Its a beautiful choice of priority. Miami Bitcoin conference will give you the best experience you may ever think of but how about talking to people in your neighbourhood about Bitcoin before the conference. That way you can groom new Bitcoin enthusiast and also people you can always discuss about Bitcoin with while you keep plans on attending 2023 conference

Unfortunately, this is true.  I have been to a few small conferences and pretty much all of them were plugging a scam at some point.  Not to mention there was like nothing new about Cryptocurrencies I heard there that I did not know before and small ones typically also have Shitcoins plugged all around.  They are very basic, with scams sometimes plugged in the middle of the 'show' and most of the people I met had a God complex of some sort.  No, thank you.

The best option is the one you mentioned.  Livestreams.  Although I do not think I have ever heard about a large conference being live streamed on YouTube, would you mind sharing a few names?

This! The privacy risk is high when attending such conferences, and this risk increases when it is around your locality.

Yep. The last thing you'd want is someone to follow you as you leave the conference and hit you with the $5 wrench attack.

If I really needed to go to a conference for whatever reason, I'd go full Watchdogs. Hoodie, face mask, a hat, and some shades.

Literally every information one would need about Bitcoin is available online, so the only reason, I see, to attend a conference would be to network. This is useful for a social media personality or one selling a service, but regular Joe's who are into Bitcoin, can do without that publicity.

If you must attend one, be wary not to disclose personal information and be sceptical of any offer or service being marketed.
You get to see first-hand the interest of others about Bitcoin and maybe get it off your bucket list.

I would have to consider the quality of information the conference will offer. Secondly, the location and cost would also matter to me. If the entry fee, transportation costs and other logistics are expensive then I might not attend. But one of the benefit of conferences is connection. Sitting in the same environment with likeminds can link you up to an opportunity or an idea that can open new profitable doors.

But most conference in my country are usually overhyped. You would here of an international bitcoin conference that would attract speakers or bitcoiners from all around the world. But it would turn out to be a conference put together by few local chaps with no international affiliation or connections.

I am also an asocial type of person and it's been a while now since I am invested in Bitcoin but I haven't tried attending a single crypto conference or gathering. I made a lot of friends online as they are into crypto too and most of them already attended crypto-related gatherings. So it is not bad actually. If you have the time and you want to attend then go. You might learn new stuff there or meet new crypto friends. Who knows it'll lead and start a crypto career for you.

If it is within your convenience and you are not going to spend too much money travelling to attend, then it is surely worth it, most times people attend conferences when one or some of the speakers are people they have admired for a long time in the network, so if they can seize the opportunity to see them talk about bitcoin live, they will.

Since you are interested in bitcoin conferences, you should check the bitcoin meetup section for updates and news about things like that: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=86.0

If you are in the UK, there is a news there on a bitcoin conference coming up in the UK: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/uk-bitcoin-conference-21-22-october-2022-edinburgh-5406152

Yes it is an experience you cannot do without, it's going to be a remarkable one indeed especially if it's a global conference that brings together cryptopreneurs from different parts of the world, I've not been able to attend a global conference before bit i do attend the ones organised from my locality here and i can tell you vividly it's worth attending, you get exposed to several opportunities in the crypto space, you will also stand a chance to have an encounter with some of the founders, developers and experts in cryptocurrency, they do have sessions where different areas in cryptocurrency will be brought to discuss, a try is worth giving.
