Hey josh welcome to the forum. Unfortunately the answer you are looking for isn't a straight one, it involves lots of complexities. To answer which coin is best to mine, you have to take many things into consideration, like electricity cost, hardware cost etc. As for 'experts' Some will say etheruem while the other lot will say zcash etc. Same for the hardware there is no general consensus, some will support the gpus while other prefer asics.
