I would use something like Metamask or something where you don't have to use a private key. I've had one stolen and it really sucks. Stay safe out there.

As long as I use myetherwallet, I feel safe and secure, making insecurity is your own way of maintaining your wallet. During this time myetherwallet has always improved its security, besides the user's responsibility to maintain their wallet, store it in cold storage

I think it will be very safe if you keep your private key and Keystore / JSON File safely, the wallet you have will also be very safe, but don't let you log in incorrectly and make sure the website is not a phishing link or a fake website, you must be careful to avoid the risk.

Well I was, I was holding a large amounts of token in myetherwallet and it is very safe actually because I'm very careful if on internet, not clicking other links than the original one because I use bookmark. Safe or not it depends on you mate if you just click without checking again then mew is not a right place better use TREZOR for that

I am not holding a big amount in Myetherwallet, because I feel binance or Bittrex Exchange are safer than Myetherwallet wallet. Wink It is not a good decision to hold a big amount in myetherwallet. You can use metamask if you don't like hardware wallet. I would not recommend myethrwallet for big money holding!

I want to invest in good quantity. but it is very hard to rely on hardwallets. MyEthWallet seem good in terms of ease of availability. I need to know if it is enough safe to use MEW?

I don't hold any coins there as I am not sure about the safety of that wallet. I accept only hardware wallet. A hardware wallet is the safest one for me.

first thing is myethwallet.org does not exist. Either you are trying to diverge people to a fake page or you are really unaware of MEW.
Correct URL for MEW is MyEtherwallet.org

Now, your statement: It is very hard to rely on hardwallets is entirely false. The most reliable wallets are hardware wallets and not the online ones.
Its always good to go for Trezor or Ledger Wallet.

Are you saying that MEW is not safe? IMO, MEW is safe as long you don't fall victim on phishing websites but of course you should spread your wealth into different wallets if ever one wallet is hacked then you still have something left.

I think that large amounts need to be stored on special devices, where there is no access to the Internet, I do not yet have a large amount, but I hope that I will need a device soon)))
They also could do more downloading of the main wallet instead of buying hardware wallets.

I will not like to hold a large amount in Myetherwallet. If you look in this section, you will find a lot of MEW accounts get hacked! Hackers are very familiar with myetherwallet ! Why do you think Hardware wallet is hard to rely on? Rather hardware wallets are the best without any doubt. You can ask every single person in the crypto, 95% People will tell you hardware wallets are far better than Myetherwallet.
MEW never generates an account though, when you use MEW you are essentially generating a private key for an address and not a MEW account. You can use the private key to log in everywhere else besides MEW, the only thing that got so many people hacked are how they could easily give away their private key when in the process of logging in to their address

Use MEW safely. This is the main purse for altcoins, which is used by everyone. But if you want to store large amounts on it, then you should take care of security, it is better to make several wallets and distribute your funds between them. As a precaution.

I still think that if you have a lot of ETH, then it’s best to buy yourself a Trezor which doesn’t cost that much, better just take it and buy it so that there are fewer questions, I think it will be several times better.
He was talking about did you hold large amounts of ethereum in myethwallet.org that can be considered as a scam site. This kind of thread to promote that scam site. i remember about that.

Due to previous bad experiences, I am not in favor of accumulating large amounts of cryptos in any wallet, so when I have had the opportunity to gather significant amounts of ethers for no reason I store them in a single wallet, but I distribute them in a large amount of wallets although that implies an extra effort when trying to keep an adequate control of the multiple addresses in which my ethers are stored. And I think myetherwallet is a good place to hold your ethers, as long as you take all the necessary measures to protect your coins.

Most of the ICOs are now on the basis of MEW, so 99% of my assets are on it. However, I don't hold everything on one,i own about 10. But here, of course, there is an inconvenience ,it's necessary somewhere to store all the keys and a little uncomfortable to constantly think that if I lose ,they will be impossible to recover. And there's nothing we can do with it. But responsibility entirely on me, it suits me.

MEW wallets is used by lot of people for storing large amount of funds but if you are going to store them for long termpurpose then better go with Hardware wallets which only cost you about less than $100,and most of the ICO teams holding their fud in MEW so it is capable for large funds but you need to be aware of phishing links.
In any case, now the safety of your funds depends only on your caution and attentiveness. Not the appointment of hardware wallets or MEW, anyway, security depends on you.

Firstly please dont open this kind of threads. Newbies can try to use that with wrong URL.
You can reach true and legit MEW with that URL --- https://www.myetherwallet.com/

and my answer is yes. because when we are using mew it is not mean we are storing our eth to mew.
Mew is only a interface for providing us to reach our wallet. You can also use mew with your hardware wallets like Ledger.

It's important that you bookmark favourite sites that you visit, especially as you spell myetherwallet.org the way you did. Having said that, I think it's safe to use so long as you keep your private keys safe and you don't enter them on phishing/malicious sites. I certainly would hodl thousands of $$ in a hardware wallet.

For now, MyEthWallet is still safe. At present, tokens theft is due to phishing sites. I think as long as we can prevent phishing sites. Then your tokens will not have any problems.

Thanks, man. It's definitely not a phishing site, I went in through my bookmark and verified all the permissions. When I check my account on Etherscan, my tokens are still all there in the account. It's only on the actual wallet that they're not loading. Which is a problem, because that means I can't send them out to another address.

most cases that occur in theft of the wallet will result from the user's error and negligence. all this time I remained safe with my wallet, there was nothing that caused my token to disappear in a hack by someone. so the point is safe as long as you are always careful and careful especially in terms of your pc's security

actually I don't really make MEW a problem, even more important than MEW is our private key
with private key, we can send and receive ETH via Mist, MetaMask, Parity and MEW. So in my opinion MEW is safe as long as you are not fooled by phishing websites
and wallet hardware is safer, than web-based wallet or software

Each wallet has its own safety precaution but as a user we are responsible when we use it.

Many discussions in the forum and that's enough to say that you can use MEW or you can also use metamask but the best wallet to keep large amount of ETH is through hardware wallets. Purchase them trezor, ledger nano s or keepkey any of them will do.

The confusion many people make is to believe that there is 1 ETH and that you can store it somewhere in the same way you do with a photo.jpeg.

There is no such thing. Just as you can not save 1 BTC to your flash drive, you can not save an ETH anywhere. What exists is a public ledger. That is a blockchain. And you can just save the access keys to it for a certain address.

Therefore, MeW is secure if your access to it is secure. It does not store anything and the only risk it has is when you access it or if someone can get your private key.

I have saved that amount in a few weeks, before I finally withdraw from MEW. and nothing, everything is safe.

Depends where you live. With $2000 you could live good life for 5-6 months in some Asian countries meanwhile it would be one month's rent at some places.

It is actually safe if you never use it with private key. I mean, you should take very caution when you transfer your ETH or tokens with your p.key.
To prevent you using private key every time you want to send ETH or tokens, you can put your MEW into metamask using private key just one time.

There are just so many hacks of mew addresses that I wouldn't dare to hold some bigger amount of tokens there. I would trust even exchanges more than mew. On hard drive, desktop wallet, without 24/7 access to internet. Of course there is a problem that not all erc20 tokens have their wallets, but then, you wouldn't hold that kind of tokens in large amounts.

First, MEW is not MyEthWallet.org --- it is https://www.myetherwallet.com/ . If you will be confused with the URL and make even a 1 letter mistake, for sure you'll be a victim of Phishing in the future.

Second, what project do you plan to invest in? As long as it's an "ERC-20" Token(s) you can use MEW to create wallet and access it.

Third, being SAFE depends on you.
  • You'll be holding your Private Key / JSON file / UTC file which can be used to open your wallet - keep it in a safe place
  • You'll be the one to visit the MEW site - make sure you are in the correct URL before unlocking your wallet

If ever your files were exposed or you visited a Phishing site, expect that your funds will be stolen and it's your fault.

MEW is safe if you take precautions not to click on phishing links and/or by using metamask with MEW. It is a good wallet to use if you like to store lots of ETH tokens but I don't feel comfortable storing large amounts there.

Myetherwallet holds nothing. It's just a window to your private key. Util and unless you keep your private key safe, your balances would be totally safe.
But you need to be continues about putting your private address anywhere. There are a lot of MEW clone that would steal your private key and hence your balance.

MEW is an interface, technically speaking u're not storing ur tokens on the MEW site... e.g., u store ur data on some harddisk, microsoft windows is the interface via which u interact with ur info. having said that though, i wld recommend metamask at least (also another interface, but has better security, can interact with MEW too), if u have a sizeable am of eth or erc tokens. for highest form of security, go for hardware wallets. google them online.

I want to invest in good quantity. but it is very hard to rely on hardwallets. MyEthWallet seem good in terms of ease of availability. I need to know if it is enough safe to use MEW?
