I personally would love to read about new games and products, not just in the newbies forum but every forum.

So how do winners get picked?  That's the part that really matters.

Also, 1/11 cut is huge and I don't think anyone would stand for it.  As well as people not really playing this type of game, seen some others try to start it... but you're welcome to try.
So for what it's worth, I'm just using the PHP array_rand function to pick one of the tickets. With small pools like that, I don't know how much of a difference this makes than grabbing truly random values from random.org or something like that.

As far as the cut is concerned, at small pools like that, 1/11 is the smallest I can take, right? I mean, I can't really take half of a single buyin (and basically I'm just taking a single buyin), as the other half would end up floating around anyway. I was planning on moving on to bigger pools, again only taking 1 buyin (so for example, 1BC to win 100BC would have me raking 1BC, basically paying me 1/101).

If i may make a wish, instead of that why not make it like normal casinos do it ? make it say for 2x payout, 9/20 chance.

This leaves you, the house with 10% profit margin, and the players with a long term flat 90% payback ratio (on instant payout).
That's a good idea, too, Grant... right now, though, I guess I would need to plump up my bank a bit more just to cover any run of wins Smiley

Thanks for all the feedback guys!

Hi all...

Just a basic question: while I wait to be marked as 'promoted from Newbie' is it acceptable to 'advertise' a gambling game in the Newbie forum? Naturally I would like to put it in the the gambling forum, and while this post will actually give me the post count to promote me up, I figure that it's probably a question that a few other newbies have, too...

If so, well I'll pop the information in here anyway. If not, c'est la vie.

Thanks!
Yes, of course! That's what this forum is for!

By the way, once you become a Jr. Member, you can move your own posts where ever you want. So, you can start it here and when you're able to post in the forum beyond, you can just click the "move topic" button on the bottom of the page.

Rational Exuberance
One of the most important uses of this forum is "product pimping". That's the biggest reason I follow this forum is to see what new products are being released.

Generally, you want to create a single thread for your product, and try to keep discussion of your product within that thread. This allows anyone interested in your product to subscribe to your thread to get updates.

It's often ok to post a link to your thread in related threads as long as you aren't annoying people.

Forum convention is that the first post (and first post title) always provide a concise summary of your product and its current status.

So to be honest, I haven't checked out all of the games that are listed. Last time I looked, though, they all seemed to have at least one of the following 'features':
- Required account on a website; or
- Required sending to a unique address each time; or
- Relied on external sources for jackpot numbers (eg. external lotteries, making it possible for no-one to win the BC lottery and having it 'jackpot'); or
- Was time based (a winner picked each day, or week, or month); or
- Took a relatively large rake.

When I started writing my game, at least, I was basically targeting small-time players, with relatively small pots eg. the first one I was going to do was buy in for 0.1BC to win 1BC after 11 buyins (I know that that would give me a rake of 1/11, but I can't very easily rake less than one buyin, and some of that would go to transaction fees on the payout). Plus, at the time at least, my 'selling points' were going to be:
- No registrations required / nothing to be done other than the actual task of sending the coins
- Automatic payout after I reached the right number of players
- Because of the never-changing buy in address (and paying out from the same address) it would be completely auditable within the Bitcoin transactions themselves.

Like I say, by now I have no doubt that there are other games out there that are similar, but again, I'm just targeting low buyins for small pots (obviously with the ability to support more than one 'game' at a time). If there was any support for it, it would take me all of 30 seconds to create a new game for, say, send 1BC for 100BC, with 1:101 odds, for example.

Anyway, I guess my original question still stands... is the newbie forum to be 'product pimping free'?

Thanks!

What makes your game worth it?  There are so many copies of copies of copies out there that don't get played.  You need to have something new to bring to the table if you want to get people interested.
