Well, there were more than 24 hours in between the bumps, so they aren't breaking forum rules. It's only illegal if you bump a thread multiple times in a 24 hour timespan.

4. Bumps are limited to once per day (24 hours), yes this includes "updates", that's what the edit button is for. Old bumps should be deleted as they serve no purpose, and only clutter up topics and make it more annoying to read.

What do we do with threads like this, where people are paid to bump posts?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=886364.20

A lot of them don't delete previous bumps as well, resulting in massive clutter.
I can see 5 bumps from chronicsky, 3 from notserp and 2 from Desirable.
Out of 10 posts, not even one is a non-bump post.  Grin

busting the bastards

Thank you. Just reported another thread bumping in the same way. This is the third time I noticed that they are doing the same thing.

If it is not allowed, then how to report it ? Will mods be able to find out that it was previously posted ?

I may have done such about six times since I've been here, but never for nefarious intent.

Does edit of OP result in a "bump to the top" ?
No.

I guess it shows the thread as unread, but does not bump it to the top.

Admins can see deleted posts but not mods. Threads are allowed to be bumped once per 24 hours and you should delete previous bumps so that's ok, but not if you just keep bumping all day and deleting them.

Thank for the info.

Is that specific rule written down? - if yes, can you direct me with a link?
Reason I ask is that I sometime sell stuff in the market section and also bumps once in a while, it would be nice to study the exact rules.

It's in mprep's list of rules above but not sure where else. Maybe in the stickies in the marketplace.

All-right, thanks - I will study it.
Marketplace only have one sticky "Prevention is better than a cure. Please escrow.".

Nevertheless, I spend most of my time in "Marketplace" and I have never seen "bumping" being abused.

Ok, just reported one that was deleted and re-posted within hours to bump thread. Same thing is happening time and again on this specific thread. Did not report before.
