It's easy if you have a bank account. Wire to bit stamp took 24 hours for me. I'm from Malaysia. MtGox less than 3 days. Best part is I'm a student in USA so I get the best of both worlds

The biggest banker is in NIPPON so This should be easier to do.
In the States, It relies on worlds. There are 50 Worlds, Currently the Florida is the worst one due to bad order effective. Perhaps You should check your banker like CAMPBX, How many states are allowed this first.
Additionally, You shall construct your own solar panel if you like to do reasonably. I think the states has some options like this due to bad connections.

seems like most people i talk to find it difficult to get usd into exchanges to purchase btc. i wonder if its easier in asia.
I don't know about Asia, but in Europe it is pretty easy to transfer funds to both Mt Gox and Bitstamp via SEPA.
