I thought I read GOX when i first saw it and had a chuckle to myself, Coinbase is a half decent name and to leave this name you need something better which I am not sure GDAX really is, but it is what it is.

I agree. Even worse is the amount of people that seen this logo/name and didnt say anything.

They should of taken it to the crowd because the crowd in large numbers can get it right...a little plug for the daohub

The fact that everyone already knows what Coinbase is and now they're throwing away their entire marketing, image, and name recognition is probably the dumbest corporate move I've seen in Bitcoin so far.  Who signed off on that?  Is it a unilateral Brian Strongarm move?

It's only the exchange that is being named GDAX. The main wallet is still coinbase.

As for why they are doing it. The best explanation I saw was the following:

Previously: Coinbase - A Bitcoin Payment Processor, Storage, and Exchange

Now: Coinbase (GDAX) - A Digital Assets Payment Processor, Storage, and Exchange

They arn't sure that bitcoin will survive so are rebranding for cryptos in general.

Coinbase had a terrible reputation.

This rebranding is badly needed.

Nah i don't think of Gox when i see GDAX, maybe thats because i read the article and already know what GDAX really is- Coinbase trying to keep up with the times.

I have to agree strongly with this though. I have never know Coinbase to even look at any altcoins before.
Have they just realized their behind in the times for a digital currency exchange?

TRUMP IS DOING THE BEST! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
That name does make it look like an off shoot of mt-gox.
Maybe coinbase knows something about eth that nobody else knows yet and it is just a fore warning. Undecided

Glad I don't have anything on there.

How will we remember the Coinbase era?
Yeah, I'll remember it--those fuckers closed my account,  no questions asked because of a stupid mistake on my part that cost them nothing.  But it was my mistake to I'll own up to it.  I wish them luck.  I think they're at least honest and reasonably well-run.  Unlike Gox.

Goodbye, Z.
First thing I have been thinking about when reading that "news" was [^GDAXI] (German DAX Index),
which doesn't make the name any better than thinking of GOX, to be honest.
