Once loaded it should display a warning balance and the recent transaction, you are not completely synchronized, they may not be accurate

I am using bitcoin core on windows 7, it takes forever to sync and during this time I cannot see any sending/receiving addresses in my

interface, I only see "balances" (empty), "recent transactions" (also empty).

Will addresses show up only after it is done syncing ?
a bit off-topic: Is it safe to just copy/paste the wallet.dat around or is it any risk if the sync is at a certain state while I

copy/paste the wallet to/from the bitcoin data folder ?

There is always a choice if you want to receive the address and it is normal . or even better if you keep a backup of the transaction we go through this you will have a safe little backup data. Do not worry.

I've had that experience as well and it took me quite long time back then to wait for it to sync because I was a real noob about desktop wallets before so I guess it's normal? And seeing these other users' replies, we can indeed concur that it is normal.

It was only then that I began to start making backups because it worried the heck out of me.

In Bitcoin Core, the "sending addresses" window is just an address book. If someone tells you an address to send bitcoins to them, and they want you to re-use that address in the future, then you can add that person's address to the address book along with a label so you can find it easily the next time you want to send them more bitcoins. If you haven't added any addresses to that address book, then obviously there aren't any to show you yet.

Bitcoin Core assumes that you will use bitcoin properly and generate a new address every time someone is going to send you bitcoins. It also generates a new address every time that you send a transaction so that it can be used to receive the change in your transaction back into your wallet.  It mostly keeps all these addresses hidden from you.  Anytime you need to give someone an address, you just click the "request payment" button. It will generate a brand new address for you to use, and show you that address. You can see the history of addresses that you have generated in the "receiving addresses" window, but if you haven't generated any yet, then there aren't any to see.

There is a "Backup Wallet" option under the "File" menu.  If you want to copy your wallet.dat while the program is running, it would be best to use that "Backup Wallet".  Otherwise, I would shut down Bitcoin Core before copying the file.  You can shut it down while it is still synchronizing, it will pick up where it left off the next time you start it up.

It is normal to see no addresses until you've actually, you know, created them. You can create a new receiving address at any time by clicking Request Payment on the Receive tab, or by going File -> Receiving Addresses and clicking New.

You should not move wallet files around while Bitcoin is running, except for saving a backup file using File -> Backup Wallet.

In my experience, I can't even see the interface until after the on-disk DB is fully loaded.  However, I have an SSD, so the behavior you describe might be normal on a standard HDD.  Additionally, I am assuming you mean until the DB is fully loaded, and taking forever to sync isn't the best term for that if I am correct.  Sync(hronization) is when the blocks on the public network (Internet) are downloaded.  This is why I specifically mentioned the on-disk DB being loaded.  Until that is loaded, it would not make sense for the interface to display any data.  However, once that is loaded it should display balances and recent transactions with a warning that you are not fully synced and they may be inaccurate.

I'm not sure how much risk there really is, but it is recommended to shut down the client before manually copying the walled.dat file in either direction.  It used to be possible to issue a resync command whenever replacing the wallet.dat file to make sure it was up to date, but I believe some things changed in the most recent versions and that may no longer be possible and/or necessary.  Regardless, assuming you only have one wallet.dat file and simply want backups, you can take them while core is running by using the command "bitcoin-cli.exe backupwallet " from the daemon subdirectory of your Bitcoin Core installation folder.

Finally, while this response may have come pretty quickly, There is a Technical Support section where you should have posted this and might typically get quicker (or at least more informed) responses to these types of questions.
