Ohh!! I never thought that somebody will create a thread on me.

1. Why I created this thread in Off-Topic ?

No Signature Bounty pays the post in Off topic, so I took Off topic as my choice so nobody spam it for signature. (Initially I thought Serious Discussion that nobody get any activity and signature display but then I think I should not create my personal thread there).

2. First 5 basic question for Joining the challenge

I did not propose Merit on joining the challenge but after completing the 5 question challenge that started today.

There is nothing wrong with that. Actually he's helping other members to rank up at the same time he also teaches low rank member to do some research before posting. It is way more better method in decreasing the number of shitposting in our forum.

He's just teaching other low-rank members on how to fish rather than giving them a fish.

Thanks for guessing my real intent correctly. I have explained my intent here.

they may be fixed prior ... these are my doubts ...

No one was fixed. On the contrary it took more than 24 hours to get 5 people with +100 activity to give correct answer to very basic question. This really shows ignorance of users  in this forum.

Maybe this is the new way to trade merit in future???

I awarded 1 merit only before the below comment of LoyceV

One tip: start awarding Merit for good posts (no, not my posts, I don't need it and I for sure don't want to ask for Merit). By doing so, you'll help improve the forum.

And I thought good posters already have enough merits and I should do something that can make below average poster to somewhat improve the quality, more adherent to rule or more aware.

If it is right, then there are some rules for creating such type of thread or there are some limitation in creating this type of thread.

Actually Theymos left this on our imagination without giving a definite guideline but creating of these thread should not be considered wrong.

I agree with this approach. I considered giving merit proportional to activity, but I decided not to because doing so would probably give far more undeserved merit than deserved merit in total. But undoubtedly some people got screwed by this, and if they have decent posts, by all means, give them the 250 or 500 merit that they need to rank-up.

I also agree with the idea of (free) "reviewer" topics in general, for finding high-quality posts that went unnoticed. Barcode_ created one in the Chinese section, as well.

Only difference, I am thinking it might create future high quality poster.

Nope, that's pretty normal.

Ever since the merit system has started, most of our seniors have done something similar thread, but not in the off-topic board.
Most know members like TMAN, actmyname and Joel_Jantsen have their own "merit giveaway" thread and it doesn't seemed to be against the rules, although recently, mods have been moving merit giveaway-related threads to off-topic board since it is... yeah off-topic.
FYI, only merit sources are the ones who are being moderated, unless in some extreme cases.

As far as I know, there has been a couple of "rule breaking" giveaway threads that got busted by DT members, the authors got red-tagged but were not banned.

I don't see anything wrong with that thread. At least newbies have to think a little bit, read forum rules, to answer the question, or to turn on common sense.

He clearly stated how he chooses winners of merit, only first 5 with correct answers.

He(r1s2g3) created giving away merit thread in off-topic. Is it breaking any rules or is it the right way to award merit Huh

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/let-me-give-you-the-first-merit-in-this-forum-challenge-completed-4702284 (If it is right then jr.members can join it )

In the first post, he asked some basic question and He selected the 5 participants for merit in the second post. How can he select those members Huh  they may be fixed prior ... these are my doubts ...
In this way, he can trade the merit behind the competition.
