you can try creating a virual os (ubuntu preferably) using virtualbox in your pc and set it up like one of the official guides provided by dash for dash masternode

Edit: I wrote the below about nodes in general. After doing some reading, it seems that the Dash masternodes that the OP is asking about are quite a bit more involved, so my statements may not necessarily be accurate in this case.

Side note: I'm kinda stunned to read that you need to hold 1000 Dash (>$150,000 USD currently) in order to run a node. Seems a bit restrictive.

It is not necessary to use a VPS. Many people run nodes on SoC hardware, like Raspberry Pi, but most node software will run on almost any hardware.

If your goal is to help secure the network, the most important thing to consider is that you will require (or, at least, SHOULD HAVE) a static IP address. A node on a dynamic IP address is still helpful, but will lose all of its connections every time the IP address changes. Thankfully, many larger ISPs are using pseudo-static IP addresses for their residential customers (long lease times, and renewal), so this isn't as big of a problem as it would have been 10+ years ago.

Another thing to consider, while we're on the subject, is the amount of storage space and bandwidth which your node will use. Blockchains can grow very large (many tens or hundreds of GB), and the node will use a significant amount of data transfer. I do not run a Dash node, so I can't quote you any numbers, but be sure to consult your ISPs plan and policies to make sure you can handle the bandwidth without being charged or throttled unexpectedly.
