It depends on coinbase and ofcourse you can buy altcoins with your fiat money but it depends on which altcoin available for your fiat money to buy. But i think it is limited to buy with your fiat money.

The question may sound a little off, but im curious, is it possible to directly exchange Fiat money for Alt coins,? if not, whats the reason?
There are exchanges that are allowing you to do this.
Local currency -> bitcoin / altcoin --> local currency that's how they process so if you're in a country that does have that type of exchange you can do it.

Your best option is to simply buy BTC from someone from localbitcoin and then buy the altcoin you want. Just make sure your research is thorough that it helped you decide which altcoin can give you profit in the future. Remember that you can't undo after you buy the tokens form exchanges, you have to live with it if you suffer loss in the end.

Definitely yes! You could buy altcoins with your fiat money.
All you have to do is to go to coin exchanges and there you could see US dollar bank accounts, send you money into that account and send them the proof that the money you are sending came from you and then they will give you Bitcoin or Ethereum it's your choice and then use that BTC or ETH to buy any altcoins you want.
After the payment, you will have your own BTC or ETH wallet and then you can use them anything you want, whether hold them or buy another coins as you like.

I think such scenarios can be done, you just need to find the person who urgently needs the money and then you pay her in cash and she will transfer you a coin to the account, that's how it can be done ...

Yes, you can buy the main altcoins with fiat money on BestExchange, like Litecoine, Ripple, Money and even Doggycoin  Cheesy You can also use exchanges, there is such an option on some of them. I think you should decide with the altcoin you need first.

Yes, you can directly purchase altcoins using your fiat but it is going to be very limited. There are only a handful of altcoins that you can purchase with your fiat directly. Perhaps it is easier to buy some ETH, LTC, and some of the major ones most probably, but with those that are not as famous as these two I doubt if they are offered with fiat. And then another challenge would be where to do all this buying. If through ICOs though, there are many ICOs that accept fiat in buying their coins.

In the Philippines, we are using Coins.PH to purchase Bitcoin with fiat cash. However, we can purchase Ethereum, NEM, and YOLOCoin soon with fiat currency in the country. I think it is possible as long there are projects that would make it happen.

Litecoin is one example, which we can now buy LTC with fiat currency with the Litepay debit card. The same thing goes to Ripple as it now partners with Moneygram and other money remittance centers.

You can buy altcoins for fiat, but only those that are traded to usd. Simply deposit your fiat on exchange and buy what you want.

You can always find a way, even through a simple exchange with another person, by the principle of localbitcoins, by the way, there you can select people with a good rating and ask them for the necessary alts

Depends on what exchange you use, some exchanger allow that. For example if you are indonesian, vip.bitcoin.co.id support buying alt directly using fiat. You just need bank account and national id with same name as you use in that bank account. If you are not indonesian, just go to coinbase and purchase bitcoin or ethereum there and move it to exchanger you want to buy alt.

yes its possible, but it depends on the restrictions of you countyr, ex. you country doenst accept any crypto-currency (banned) it is impossible for you to buy any altcoins with fiat. but if your country is a totally accepting crypto-currency, you can buy/bought bunch of it with no any restrictions.
Which countries are totally accepting crypto for fiat money? It can make only exchanges, but not all

I think it could be. Most specially if the involve persons are investors and traders. Let as assumed that traders and holders or investors are friend and have really a good relationship toward each other. They can exchange directly from fiat to alts not doing some inside transactions or through online. But this is not suggestable coz altcoins is tradable through online. Although it seems that actual alt is safe and more secure than online storage alts. If you mean fiat from alts then I should say it is very clear possible coz there are so many countries that adopts this concepts of exchange from altcoins value to actual money.

It depends on your country. Here in the Philippines  we can easily buy bitcoins at our local sellers (localbitcoin.com) and other merchants like coins.ph and rebit.ph. but this is to BUY and SELL bitcoin or Exchange to Fiat only. Altcoins are not yet supported but one of the merchant coins.ph is about to release an exchange where we can trade bitcoin to PHP (Philippine Pesos) and also altcoins like ETH and LTC.

Im lucky that my country supports crypto.  Wink

Its more fun in the Philippines

As far as I know Bancor is preparing a gateway to connect it's automatic exchange system based on the Bancor Protocol to FIAT money. So I guess that perhaps already later this year more and more altcoins will become liquid (always exchangable) towards fiat money.

I think there is a way for you to use fiat money to invest in coins. I jut remember here in the Philippines we have a coins.ph app. It is where you can exchange those coin especially bitcoin to our currency money. Not just that we are also capable of paying bills and send money through that app. It is very convenient for those who are busy people like me. It is really also a good thing for us here since we can decide not to go on any counter to pay for us bills. And not just that through that we can invest in bitcoin. We can hold for it.

YES. Most of the country allows that. But the process goes like, first fiat to bitcoin then btc to any alts in exchange. Most just allow bitcoin because its the most popular one. You just have to trade it to any coins you want which is not that hard of a process.

I've seen some ICOs allow fiat purchases, so yes it is possible
But the fact that the majority of countries are considering about buying or making a direct transaction of cryptocurrency with fiat as illegal activity. That means if that was an unlawful act.
But where do people are buying altcoin directly?
Since the only possible thing to buy altcoin through the exchange site.

But those are accepting wire transaction have not made any cooperation with the bank itself.

I'd be surprised if sites like buying bitcoin locally don't have an altcoin market. Can't say I've ever used them but some of the more reputable ones have been around quite a while and it's just a case of using a trusted seller. Personally I'd rather just pay the coinbase fees as your less likely to get scammed.

It depends on where you are from mostly. There's many countries in Europe that offer altcoin directly.  Also many fiat exchanges have ETH, which still can can be considered an altcoin.

You could also just trade with someone you know or find some shady guy on the streets

It definitely depends on the exchange and the alt coin.  QUOINEX in Japan has done fiat pairings (USD, JPY, SGD, AUD) with RKT and QASH.

I think in this kind of cases, I cannot say that you can directly exchange Fiat money to altcoin because it depends upon the command of the project. If it is necessary then why not, its a case to case basis problem.

It depends on the country some countries are accepting directly fiat currency because now a days number wallets available so you can easily exchange your fiat currency.
If you check in international standard it is not possible only you can buy Bitcoin then you should exchange your altcoin this is the actual procedure in cryptocurrency.

Every one of the coins that are on the Korean trades (Bithumb, Coinone, Korbit and so forth) regardless of whether they are alt or bitcoin can be purchased in fiat cash. All things considered, the fiat is the main alternative to get them. They have Monero, QTUM, Dash, Zcash, Bitcoin Cash etc that are considered as altcoins here. I do understand that Bitcoin is the ruler and it must have the best framework yet with regards to purchasing and offering coins, despite everything I don't know why everything must be tied with Bitcoin.

Do you know why there is no big exchange fiat to alctoins?

It is because low liquidity of altcoins, shitcoins (they do not want to sell shit?) or double conversion (which is risky in a rapidly changing environment)?

If you're into USD, most (if not all) altcoins in c-cex.com are tradeable with USD. The only problem is wether your chosen coin is listed there. If you're new there, be careful because that exchange has a lot of shitcoins listed.

First of all it will depend where are you from, Asuming that you are in US you can choose Coinbase to buy BTC, BCC(BCH), ETH, LTC and if you can verify yourself with Bittrex (Assuming you already have Account with them) you can deposit fiat there and Bittrex has pair to several altcoin with fiat so you can buy
BTC ,LTC, ETC, ADA, XRP, ETH, BCC, NEO, XVG, OMG, XMR, BTG, ZEC, NXT, DASH and a lot more around 50 Coins. Poloniex offers the same but they have very few coins with fiat trading. Good luck

There are many altcoins that can be purchased directly from fiat, you need to verify your account for this and then only you can participate.
Exchanges like bitfinex offer this as well

Aside from CoinBase, I've noticed that BAT uses a website called uphold.com for purchasing their coins (as well as other altcoins) using fiat by linking your credit card or bank account.  I've never used it, and I've read really bad reviews however on how long they take to process your transactions, as well as sometimes cancelling your transaction if the price changes too much.

Anyone had experience using them?

I can exchange fiat money with some crypto available in local exchange. yes, I guess if in your country there is no ban, there seems to be a local exchange involving fiat money.

If you are try to make F2F transaction and you may able to deal all of altcoin with fiat money directly, But if you are dealing through internet and that will never be happened. As long as you are having any bank account you can try to make wire transaction to buy altcoin through exchange sites. Because all about the digitalization. Did you know what i meant about that? It seems a bit strange for me.
But in this case what do you mean about "directly"

Besides Coinbase as mentioned above.  You can use Gemini to purchase Ethereums with fiat if you're in the US.  The fees are lower than Coinbase but you don't have the option to purchase Litecoins or BitcoinCash as they are not supported on Gemini.

In the US, your only real option is to go with Coinbase, which allows purchase of LTC, ETH, and BTC.  Rumors are coming that Coinbase is going to add many other alts but not yet.  I hear there's a way to purchase alts directly with fiat in Bisq but I have no experience with it.
