Who care about one merit send to one post? You must be more careful if you have intention to send someone 10, 20, or 50 merits, when post quality will be a serious issue. For the post you mismerited, just let it be.

but in some case, some people make use of this to do transaction sell merit for money.
We know that there have been many cases that have sprung up so there is truth in what OP says.
even if it's just a mistake, you shouldn't repeat it.
but i though it wont be easily to do, because need 2 time confirmation for giving Smerit  Roll Eyes

The mistake has been done, luck him though. Next time before taking any action just make sure you read and observe carefully before sending any merit. Don't ever rush in doing things cos it do end up wrongly

In general too, it would be cool if there was a feature to reverse a merit within 10 mins of sending it.

Quickseller would start a new business selling merits for crypto and also acting as the third party escrow.  :/

Thats a negative ghost rider.

Although I am a believer in the free market, I don’t have an interest in selling merit and I don’t think people should sell it either.

If you are implying I would sell merit and subsequently reverse the transaction, that would be receiving money for nothing and I wouldn’t do that either.

It’s nice to see that I am living rent free in your head.

I agree with the OP. You should have a grace period to reverse sent merit. Some people use phones with small screens that make it easy to misclick. Others may otherwise make mistakes in giving merit.

there is no good reasons to have any reverse for merit transactions, IMO
It has happened. I recall at least 1 case with large Merit  transactions from a hacked account, and Merit abuse from a source.
BTW, if any merit source goes rogue and sells a ton of merit, then I will probably go through the transaction graph and undo all of the transactions touched by that sold source-merit. Merit ain't no immutable cryptocurrency!

If there is no reverse for bitcoin transactions, there is no good reasons to have any reverse for merit transactions, IMO. I don't think forum needs merit congestion.  Meriters simply take care of each time they decide to send merits, typing amount of merits intend to send, check it again, before clicking Send. It's fine. Cheesy

But if he was a newbie or something I would be worried like if he turns out to be scam, then I will probably get linked to him through that merit Cheesy ...
No, nobody would make such a connection without any other proof.
There was a thread created a few months ago that shows statistics of how many banned members each user has merited. On top of the list you can find many well know names including merit sources. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5117555.0;all

My point is nobody can know if the person you merit is or will eventually become a scammer or banned.

I would like to know if it can be reversed because I don't want to send a merit to a post that is just a few lines and shouldn't get merit.
You've sent an already Legendary user his second Merit. It's no use to him, so nothing is lost there.
I've sent you 1 sMerit so you can Merit the post you wanted to. Nothing is lost at all Smiley

Cheesy thanks a lot Loyce! Actually he was legendary that's why I was less worried. But if he was a newbie or something I would be worried like if he turns out to be scam, then I will probably get linked to him through that merit Cheesy also not specifically that, I was also wanted to suggest if reversing merit within a specific time would be good Cheesy it was only the worry of getting under suspicion Tongue thanks Smiley also, I think I may have offended the OP of that post, I'm sorry for it, I was just worried of being under suspicion, nothing else or personal feelings Smiley

<…> In general too, it would be cool if there was a feature to reverse a merit within 10 mins of sending it.
I doubt that there are many cases of wrongly sent sMerit (except for a bunch of double clicked cases that lead to an upgrade to add a 60 second cool down time to remerit a post), at least not on a significant scale for it to be considered an issue to look into.

Adding a timeframe to revert the TXs would complicate things much more than it seems, since you’d have to effectively ‘lock’ the recipient’s received merits and the subsequently generated sMerits in order to avoid the recipient from spending them and then possibly needing to revert the TX in that 10 min. interval.

<…> you can always ask receiver to send you back merits, but I see no point in doing so.
No point really as you say. Besides, if the recipient account agreed to send if back, it wouldn’t exactly revert the original situation (i.e. A sends 1 sMerit to B, then B sends 1 sMerit to A to 'revert' the situation, A has effectively lost ½ sMerits in the process, the same as B. In addition, A&B would now have 1 additional (non-reversable) Merit each than in the initial scenario).

To OP, you can't. After clicking the +Merit, it will show if how many merits and the title of the thread, how did you end up giving merit to mistaken posts?

oh my precious non-reversable merit...   Tongue
you can always ask receiver to send you back merits, but I see no point in doing so.

I doubt he'll give it back without any good reason and they might be accused of exchanging merits since @iamsheikhadil posted this to admit his mistake that he give merit to a non-quality post.

many users have knowingly gave out huge number of merits to one liners, sometimes 50 merits and above
That happened a lot in the early days of the merit system, and it doesn't happen much anymore (that I know of).  Nor were those mistakes.  Misuse of merits, maybe.  Mistakes, no.

I've known a lot of accounts that have 50 merits given to deleted posts on early days. This was obviously done by alt accounts and didn't think about being punished in the future so they recklessly spent those in one account.

When you click on merit(at the top right hand of what you want to merit) it doesn't just immediately give away the merit it automatically directs you to a page and giving you guidance and options about how many merit you want to send and who you about to send it to.
You can only blame yourself if you don't pay attention to those write up.

Not that I care about it much if it is not possible. But it becomes suspicious if merit(s) are sent to posts which clearly are irrelevant and doesn't deserve a merit, so I just wanted to admit an honest mistake.
Fair enough.  Don't make it a habit to make those kinds of mistakes and no one will care--everyone makes mistakes now and then, even with merits.  I haven't given merits to the wrong post, but I've handed out double what I meant to at least one time for the same post.  Just be careful and there won't be any suspicions and you won't be wasting your sMerits.

No God or Kings, only BITCOIN.
There's nothing else can be done to it, lesson learned, be careful the next time when you're sending a sMerit to a post. If you have a sMerit left and you really wanted to give the real user that deserves your sMerit then do it, it isn't too late for you to correct it.

When your sending some sMerit always remember the user that deserves it before sending some, I guess it is readable in the description who you want to spent it.

That is, no human is perfect ,,! thorough, reading, analysis is needed, before doing anything.
Whether it's about shipping or something else, the OP ignored 1 Merit falling into the well.
That doesn't make you lose.
In the future it may be necessary to carefully and read the intended post and when doing it again.

It's still lucky (sMerit) sent, what if the Bitcoin / dollar OP sends it wrong.

You do not need to fidget about that, many users have knowingly gave out huge number of merits to one liners, sometimes 50 merits and above, so it really doesn't matter and you needn't make a thread to exonerate yourself.
Theymos doesn't want strict moderation on how merits are handed out, so there is a slim chance of getting into trouble on how you use your Smerits, unless of course it's proven you send merits to alt accounts.

If you have more Smerits, you can go ahead and merit the post you originally intended to merit.

Is it possible to reverse a given merit sent mistakenly to a different post?

It is not possible. Mistakes and bugs during giving merits are very often. Manny topics about that was created:

F.e. multi spent mistake:

And whole list from LoyceV

I wanted to merit a topic that involved a service of exchanging of cryptos between different gambling sites. But mistakenly I sent a merit to a different post which was a reply under the same topic in rush. I would like to know if it can be reversed because I don't want to send a merit to a post that is just a few lines and shouldn't get merit.
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.49664250 this one is what I wanna reverse. No offence to the OP of that post.
