.. just to understand the process to update Litecoin source code to use the Bitcoin Blockchain.

You can not change litecoin to use any other blockchain.
You also can not override the whole litecoin blockchain with a few 'files' changed.

What you can do is to create an altcoin (litecoin fork) with the bitcoin blockchain underneath (this will turn into your altcoinX chain, which is the same blockchain as bitcoin until block X).

Modifying litecoin (the project / currency) itself is not possible.

But they not explaign more my goal !

I am not willing to create new altcoin, just to understand the process to update Litecoin source code to use the Bitcoin Blockchain.

What files must be modified etc.
Modify the source code of Litecoin code involving a change in previous blocks without a hard fork?
I(we) can't seem comprehend the goal here.

The blockchain is simply the "record" of transaction that the nodes have/have been verifying for verification.
So using Bitcoin's "record of transactions" (public ledger) to Litecoin is simply inappropriate.
See, the previous blocks aren't from Litecoin, and Litecoin's node wouldn't verify Bitcoin's previous blocks.
The only way to use Bitcoin's Blockchain to a different coin is by forking it, you can make a fork of Bitcoin which uses the same specs and functions as Litecoin like they said, no other workaround here.

Litecoin's source code in the other hand can't be modified by one person (ex.  yourself) without the approval (votes) of the community and developers.

But what is the approach i will take to make this happen ?
All this theorically of course.

There is a thread (from 2013) here on the forum by fisheater which describes the way of forking and creating an altcoin pretty detailed.
It suits well for research purposes (creating own altcoin, blockchain, genesis block, ... ).

Great article !

Thank you for your contribution !

I just read it, but it's not exactly my goal here Smiley

My request is a kind of HARD FORK, manage for example Litecoin source code to use Bitcoin Blockchain where everyone get the same amount of coins they possess at a certain block.

If it's not possible with Litecoin, is it possible for any other ALTCOIN based on Bitcoin core tech.

Thank you

Well, you could make a Bitcoin hardfork that uses the same metrics as Litecoin (ie. same PoW algo, block reward, block interval, etc...)

However such a coin would be neither Bitcoin nor Litecoin -- it would just be a Bitcoin hardfork using the same metrics as Litecoin.

Either way, not sure how much Litecoin's codebase has diverged from Bitcoin's ever since the code got forked -- after a lot has happened since then -- but it's likely still one of the technologically closer alts (apart from more recent hardforks, of course).

Nice infos ! But what is the approach i will take to make this happen ?

It is possible by sidechain technology, I have written a topic about it. In short, you can froze your bitcoins is special address and get litecoins, but this tech have some problems. You can read more in my topic.  Wink
I will read it now ! Thank you for your time.

Hi,

Litecoin have her own Blockchain, so is it possible to adapte Litecoin in order to use Bitcoin blockchain ?

I just want to know if it's possible ? and if yes, theorically what is the process ?

Second question if the respond is no for the first question:

Is it possible to use Bitcoin Blockchain for another Altcoin that use her own one (This altcoin is based on bitcoin core technology) ? What is the process ?

Thank you in advance.
