You made a concept mistake.
Bitcoin is stored in your bitcoin address, not in your wallet. You can import your address in any wallet software if you have the private key.If you don't lose or leak your private key, your bitcoin is safe. If not, you lose.
i recommand you to use the cold store mode.
I apologize for asking.

What is the method you speak of and how do I conduct it? Is it as simple as importing a private key from one wallet to the other?

step1 you should have a computer which will never be online.
Step2 you install the  wallet software campabile with the Os using USB. The Usb must be clean.
Step3 Import the address to your wallet with private key using usb. Then never use the private key on any online-computer.
done.

If you want transfer your bitcoin in your address to others.
Step4 Using an online software to create the tx raw data. I use brainwallet html pages. This step don't need the private key.
Step5 copy the raw date to the clean usb. Then copy the tx raw data to your off-line computer and sigh it with your wallet.
Step6 copy the signed raw data to usb. then copy it to blockchain.info to spread it.
done.

I have a Windows wallet with lots of funds in it, and my Linux wallet is empty and I'd like to store some Bitcoin there. Is it safe to launch Bitcoin-QT through Wine (only one will be open at a time), send Bitcoin, close it and open the other?

If you want to access your bitcoin on your Linux environment as well, you just need to export the private keys in your Windows wallet and import them to your Linux wallet.

If you want to keep part of your bitcoin in your Windows wallet and part of your bitcoin in your Linux wallet (so that you won't lose all your bitcoin with a hack), you could simply send some bitcoin from your Windows wallet to an address in your Linux wallet.

This ^ ^ ^

Basically, private keys are passwords for your wallet, think of it that way,
and your wallet can be accessed anywhere as long as it is connected to the blockchain.

Linux already has its own bitcoin software though, dunno why you'd use the Windows software,
so yeah, that's basically how it works.

What makes it secure is what makes your machine secure.
Have fun!

I'm fully aware of all this. I just find it a hassle to reboot and switch between operating systems to access bitcoin on another wallet. My original question was if Wine (a program allowing Linux users to run Windows applications) was safe to use to launch bitcoin-qt as an alternative to switching between operating systems, without risk of having my bitcoin stolen. Since I'm technically running a program in a program, the outside program could control and record the outgoing and incoming data transfers, which is essentially what I'm worried about.

Depends on wallet used.  Look up cold storage, there are multiple wallets.  The original requires the chain to be downloaded, ones such as multibit do not.
