As an atheist, my beliefs do not make me a fundamentalist–in fact, they make me exactly the opposite. If I believe in anything sacred, it’s the scientific method, the rational way of discovery which insists one is able to improve upon some set of facts by systematic observation and experiment, but that improvement is probably still way off from any ultimate truth. Atheists are comfortable without knowing all the answers, and that is something that deeply defines us.

I couldn’t help but wonder if I really had to wait in hour-plus lines since no atheist–so far as I could discover–has ever been accused of bombing or highjacking a plane. Atheists aren’t attracted to terrorism since they’re too level-headed to believe they know all the answers to the universe. They don’t need to defend or promote strict ideologies, especially archaic ones…

I envision a fast track line for atheists at all commercial airports, with only visual screening from a distance by TSA personnel. To use such a line, a traveler would simply have to publicly check that they’re an atheist when getting ticketed, and then off they’d go through security with no wait.

Funny how the tone of your voice betrays the fact that you are everything you claim not to be Grin

Atheists are all perfectly behaved to a man and woman - fact.

There should be separate airports for them and free travel too. In fact you might as well deny all travel to the religious. If those nutters really need to get somewhere then God will make it happen.

Atheists, if not being terrorists, can be thieves and murderers as well and religion has nothing to do with one being a criminal or not. Like someone here said that terrorists can just claim to be an atheist and be set free as atheism is just a belief while there is no proof that one is an atheist or theist. I refuse to believe that an atheist is incapable of committing a crime or carrying any illegal drugs/goods while travelling.

This would be true except that a person hearing the question posed,

"Are you an Atheist?"

Might hear only what he wished to hear,

"Are you a theist?"

Wow, this is completely moronic. "Terrorists" would then obviously just claim to be atheist to get around it. I'm sure extremist Muslims will not care about lying to further their ideology. How long are the ques in American Airports to get through security? The ones in Europe take barely ten minutes. The last two times I've flown in the UK and Holland there were no ques and we just walked right through so I don't think this is that big of a deal any way, especially once you get though you usually just have to sit around for hours waiting for your flight and even more so if it's delayed.

Wow, I get the idea that it might have been tongue in cheek, but do go ahead and get annoyed about the premise anyway!

Queues vary a lot, I find that they are worse in America though as they always have 100 questions about why you are travelling, why and where.  Sometimes in Europe I get through in 10 mins, but then the next time I will get stuck for an hour.
I would rather be in a queue of Muslims who know to take off their belts, watches and empty their pockets, than take the atheist queue with people who seem shocked when asked if they have any metal or liquids on them.  It still happens almost everytime that someone has a 2l bottle of water, and they can't beleive that they can't take it through!

MMm...Nice plan, but not sure if the Qur'an lets you say you are an "atheist" if you promise to blow yourself up as soon as you get on the plane...
