There are people that find investing in alt very attractive from profit point of view, believing that the value of particular coin will increase so so much. Maybe it is the best decision to invest in bitcoin but there will always be people with different vision, especially if there is wide offer to choose.
Although it is always good to buy bitcoin and specially in such a low price but I think that there are so many other altcoin which are trading in low price but still they have good potential so low investors can also keep and hold such coins which have good potential. I think that Etherium price is also trading low and even if a person will hold Etherium they can also get good profit from there.

I have specifically mentioned Litecoin as one (probably the only one) altcoin worth investing in. If you had looked at the date of my post, you would have noticed that it was written a little over a week ago, and a few days after Litecoin rose like 40% or so in just two days. But even before that, around a month ago in this thread I was telling folks that Litecoin seems to be the most promising altcoin at this point (as far as the term "promising" is applicable to this market)

lately, I also think that it's better to hold in the form of bitcoin compared to the altcoin for now. however, I am still thinking about the right steps to arrive at that stage. Seeing the progress of the altcoin going up is quite high, making me think of selling the altcoin that I have at a high price and exchanging it for bitcoin.

It is not like it is granted by default to every coin after it is created. So far the only utility (uniqueness and being useful in their own way) that the majority of coins revealed was usefulness for speculation. But since you can short only a selected list of altcoins, this usefulness disappeared as soon as the market had started crashing. They may brag about anything, but the market evidently knows better

You cannot be surprised if people are mad at ETH as many people have lost their money with the scam projects being started using the platform and since majority of the scams are using the platform to carry out their business the reputation of the coin changes with it. I really do not consider it is a currency, every one can have their take on the subject. Some of the interesting projects are TRON which has the potential but yet a penny stock, the rest of the coins are priced a lot higher to accumulate in large numbers. When ever the price of bitcoin goes down it is always a good time to enter for the long hold. 
We can not say that Bitcoin is the only true coin, and that only it has the right to exist. It will be the same as calling the dollar the only currency on the planet. There are a huge number of other cryptocurrencies that are unique and useful in their own way. They all have the right to exist.
I will not advice that we should sell all we have in altcoins and tokens and convert them to bitcoin as there are many coins that are going to do well than bitcoin in future.
If you not yet sold a majority of your coins by now, then I think you have to hodl and wait for the next round of a bullish trend because you will gain nothing in selling or buying coins now. The time experts were advising people to sell was like some kind f joke and those who took the advice seriously, are enjoying their profits.

That's not a given
Obviously, for the majority of altcoins it was a one way ticket to the graveyard, so whether Bitcoin rises or falls, they are going to die anyway. But it is not only them as even top altcoins are unlikely to outperform Bitcoin long term. How come? If Bitcoin is set to rise in the future (which is not a given, either, just in case), most likely it will be due to its real value expanding (as opposed to purely speculative value). But in these circumstances we shouldn't really expect altcoins to rise as much as Bitcoin (let alone outperform it)

IT needs to be only your decision, but remember that it is better to buy BTC at these levels rather than even on 6,XkUSD or ETH on 300+USD.
I would continue to hold btc, Eth and few other coins so that have the mix of everything and this also diversify my portfolio which will help me in the new future as I will not be depended on just one single coin. Also as it is said that do not put all you eggs under one basket.

In this market on these days it doesn't really matter if a coin is good or bad as people like you (no offense intended) who earnestly believe in some cryptocurrency (like Ethereum or whatever) have become a source for sucking money from. In fact, if a coin is good, all the worse for it. You can't win this game as your coins are fueling further market manipulation which will leave you penniless in the end. No just hold your ethereum and altcoins. You can buy bitcoin without selling your altcoins . There is solution for that or other better way if you have extra money you can buy bitcoin and you will earn more because you have bitcoin and altcoins.

As you can many people tend to buy now ethereum simply because of its new update that will happen in this month and one of the reason why they keep on buying ethereum is the new update of ethereum might be the reason to spike the price in the market

As it happened before, it may happen again, a lifehack of sorts. Yesterday I tried to install Ethereum Wallet from Ethereum developers and it gave me a lot of pain in the ass. I couldn't even import an existing private key into it, wtf. So that thing about coming update should be scary for long-term Ethereum users given the shitty quality of the software Ethereum developers produce. The bottom line is that it may in fact be a good idea to sell your ethereums and buy some bitcoins before this upgrade proves to be consistent and bugfree
People invest in altcoins with expectation that the price will jump and they will cash out their money at the moment and get good income from that. The points are only which coin and when the jump is going to be.
Of course you are right, Crypto is still not used in a proper way like making transactions and buying stuffs. This is not happening in a regular basis and the main reason I do feel is most of the government is not in the favor of this which causes them a stir. Else the demand will be more for BTC.

everybody makes mistakes but only those who learn from those mistakes are going to end up being successful. in this case only bag holders who stopped wasting their time hanging on to a dumping altcoin are going to be able to recover the big losses they have sustained over the past year due to being on the wrong side of the altcoin pump and dump scheme.

Ethereum is still looking like a good place to put your money into if you ask me. I mean hard fork increased the price a lot but we are still way below the 200 dollar levels it once stayed, if you believe bull is coming and bitcoin price will be going up than you must see that ethereum price will go up as well. If you think bitcoin is not going up than no point on switching back to it neither.
Moreover, if we consider the fact that while bitcoin was 6.5 thousand dollars the price of ethereum was 200 dollars, and right now price of bitcoin is about 4 thousand dollars (with 50%+ more to go for 6.5 thousand dollars) and ethereum price is around 150-160 levels than we can say if bitcoin can go back to 6.5 thousand dollar levels price of ethereum could be 300+ dollars easily instead of 200 like it used to be. I would say instead of a 50% gain from bitcoin it is better to gain x2 with ethereum.
Moreover, if we consider the fact that while bitcoin was 6.5 thousand dollars the price of ethereum was 200 dollars, and right now price of bitcoin is about 4 thousand dollars (with 50%+ more to go for 6.5 thousand dollars) and ethereum price is around 150-160 levels than we can say if bitcoin can go back to 6.5 thousand dollar levels price of ethereum could be 300+ dollars easily instead of 200 like it used to be. I would say instead of a 50% gain from bitcoin it is better to gain x2 with ethereum.

Many people (including me) thought that the "experts" were right and bitcoin would rise to levels of $60,000 or more, so people bought too much bitcoin, after the Future Launch, people realized that there was no coming the lot of institutional money and people started the sale and that sale brought losses to many people and those same people sold with losses and left the crypto world. I did not even expect that someday I would see the price drop below $10,000

i prefer long term holds that i can "set and forget". i can't tell you how many coins i'd nearly forgot about that doubled, 10x'd or better. you won't get that trading on bitmex because you're paying swap interest or holding limited duration contracts, and you basically only have access to markets for the very top coins. my biggest gains in altcoins have always come from low caps that would never trade on bitmex until after most of the gains are gone.

i didn't mean to say ETF's approval is meaningless. i was trying to say that the expectation is that it will be rejected. of course there is still a possibility of it being approved by the SEC but the chance of that happening is very small, something like 5% if i am generous which means it won't change anything in the market prior to the decision because people expect denial, afterwards if it is denied then nobody would care because again they were expecting it and if it is accepted then there will be a big rally because it would come as a surprise.

it looks like that now since we're so deep into the bear market, but money has been flowing back and forth between bitcoin and altcoins for years now, ever since litecoin started trading. 2017 just happened to be the biggest altcoin cycle yet. there's no doubt in my mind there will be another altcoin mania within another bitcoin bubble.

Ethereum has come down the value from its peak value. With cryptocurrency it isn't possible to give a perfect growth schedule. It gradually bumps and dumps based on the market circulation. I am not in favor of having so tokens/coins and I also think 98% of them are useless. But there are some digital moneys that compared to BTC, BTC is so weak. You should not crush the rest of this and there are projects that have the power to change our future.

The statement was only half correct. It is definitely worth dumping coins for bitcoin, but only the shitcoins like bitcoincash / SV and other crap that offers nothing. Keep things like ethereum as it has real world use and not just as a store of value
I have not much faith in ETH. From my experience in the stock market, when you think a stock has hit the bottom, sometimes it is still possible to dig even deeper and lower. So I would be careful with ETH, in my opinion it will either die or go back up but I won't risk any further penny in it.

I really don't think that people should sell all their coins now, there are still a lot of promising projects, and the coins should value more over time. I also think you are right that people should buy bitcoin, but if possible buy it from other sources and sell only coins that they think will never grow and may fall after time. Next year i think the bitcoin will value over 30,000$ so will be a good investment.

It's all about greed. A lot of the cryptocurrency market is based in speculative greed. People want to be early adopters because they want to get rich.
