Honestly, it depends on the altcoins. Each altcoin has its own measurement of volitality, trading volume, and price and it's difficult to decide when to invest if we don't seek it on its positive perspective. If you're a risk taker and prepared for long term hold then the perfect time is always as early as possible. If you're not sure that it'll gain value in the long run then just stay in BTC.

Not worth it unless you want to gamble. Bitcoin is much safer and will pump anyway the closer it gets to May and halving. It can drop a bit and pump after the halving but if you invest you have like 90% to profit sooner or later.

Altcoins follow Bitcoin and they will pump with it but there can be a turn around and when Bitcoin pumps people will exit altcoins to join the rally creating an even bigger altcoin squeeze than we're already seeing. Going altcoins now is gambling not investing.

It's worth it but you have to know what you're buying. You have to believe in the altcoin to buy it and remember that it's always more risky than buying Bitcoin. I had some altcoins 2 years ago and they lost much more value than Bitcoin, especially LTC, ADA, XRP.
Some people say ETH is a really good buy now because it's in a way unique, like Bitcoin, but my advice is to always value Bitcoin more. Buy altcoins only when you already have a lot of Bitcoin and want to invest 5% or 10% of your portfolio into something else. Gamble a bit.

My suggestion is buy bitcoin.Because maximum time bitcoin dominate altcoins. You can make profit from altcoin in short time. But for long time btc is the right choice, and btc is safe in crypto world.if you interested in altcoins then go for ETH,BNB,LTC.

If you want to buy altcoins, you can buy them now but remember to hold them for at least a year. Altcoin bull run will come and it will be more stronger than the previous bull run but it may take time. The true alt bull run will come when bitcoin crosses the all time high. If you do not have the holding power, you may not be able to take full advantage in that bull run.

Buying an altcoin when the value of bitcoin is rising. Not really recommended because the value of BTC is recovering from a huge loss after it gets diwn from its ATH, and that's why bitcoin is ia much better to buy than altcoin rha. Wait for the alt coin to pumps uo but definitely it might hapoen by next year.

Ans bitcoin is worth hodling while alt is not yet recommended to buy but still can be good to accumulate and sell for the high price of sats.

I don't think it is recommended to buy bitcoin right now, the price is still too high and you might just end up regretting buying some as its value go down. You can try buying altcoins but make sure it is included on the top list or if not, see if it has the potential to become one of the top altcoins in the making. Altcoins changes it price in harmony with bitcoin most of the time so make sure also that if you are going to buy one, always monitor the value of bitcoin too so that you may know if it is time to buy or to sell to make your investment more effective.

I always think that buying and holding BitcoinBTC is a good idea.  Angry
But I am also a strong advocate of not putting all your eggs in one basket and that is why I would recommend you to use a little of your funds (maybe like 20% of it) to invest in Reputable Altcoins like Ethereum that has proven that they are here to stay and has contributed a lot to the development of Blockchain technology. Bear in mind that this is not a financial advice, I am just telling you my own perspective and the final decision is left up to you.

but in my opinion, it's not a bad thing if we put all the eggs in one basket, but I recommend it only for bitcoin because, in the end, altcoin will follow the movements of bitcoin. even now it's good for investing in bitcoin, before the 4th annual event starts and historically the price of bitcoin always increases after the event. I continue to buy bitcoin when it goes down quite deep.

Well, I strongly believe that "Alt season" is coming due to the mentioned events haha. I always think of it that way that bigger the risk bigger the prize. All I would recommend doing is that you inspect the project behind the token.

One simple way of getting altcoin season is if there has a bull run of BTC like 2017 and in such market investing in some small cap coins is of great profit as all allts generally in this phase.

Else there are different coins having short period bull run do analysis, keep an eye, set alerts of prices and get profit. This process needs lots of patience and study.

If I'm correct most of the traders are earning a lot by trading altcoin instead of Bitcoin since there are many choices of altcoins they can play with using a small capital but if you are looking for long term investment then you must be very picky on choosing because some alts are have no actual plans in the long run which is why they turn to a shit coin after a few years. For me I only invest on altcoin that has been on the market for about 3 years to reduce the risk of loosing money.

Some altcoins still have potential to go up again and back on top. Bitcoin seems unstoppable but alts still good investment. Just go to Binance and buy some good volume altcoins there. Or invest in IEOs. This will give opportunity to gain profit. You just to be cautious about buying IEOs. Some of them are scams.

For old coins yes they have potential since they pass so many trials and regain there spot on the market and for sure they still have potential to go up for more, and I also think that the only reliable is with binance IEO and best for people to go but they also need to take precaution since once the token/coin listed a chance for it to get dumped is visible so sell whenever we see a profit and accumulate with dumps and by this we can earn on  this doings.

Investing in IEO will be good if you can keep up and can timely dump what you have before big investors begins to dump. You are just earning form the bonuses you got for investing. But if you don't wanna do that, just keep your investing to the top ones, buy every time it dips since you are not a trader. Invest on cheap ones on top.  My money is on ADA for now since we are waiting for the mainnet, its up for you to keep them after that.

You have always the option to diversify or focus with bitcoin but if you are uncertain of diversifying with altcoins, you have the option to keep with bitcoin only. That's still even a good choice for someone who wants to invest.

Top altcoins means top25 or top 50?
Thanks for a nice insight, will keep everything in mind.
Any of it is good but keep it on your mind that not just because it's included into that rank, you will buy already. Don't forget to make a research about each coin that you are likely to buy before proceeding.

You can do both buy more Bitcoin and at the same explore altcoins that will likely give you profit when the bull run and altcoin season comes, it's very tempting to also invest in altcoins because they have proven, that they can grow along with Bitcoin.
You can do your own research on what altcoins to invest but do not go down to the top 10, the top coins in the market are considered safe altcoins to invest.

The price increase has suddenly stopped, still, you can buy some other Altcoins for they still continue to rise at a slow movement. You need to be careful about selling them as soon as the price will decrease. Because many speculators think that the sudden price pump was just a bull trap. You need to choose the right coin to buy. If you decide to hold it for long then the time is right to buy now. but choose only the top coins in the market for they are the only coins who have a history of coming back.

It will be a bold move to invest into altcoins as most of us think it will take a huge amount of time for altcoins market to recover and as of now they are dependent of bitcoin's price increase for their growth. It's advisable to stick to coins like Ethereum,  XLM, TRON and other top altcoins as we cannot depend in other coins as of now. I think we need to wait until halving as there are speculation that the value of bitcoin will drop just before halving which will drop the value of altcoins as well and I think that would be the right time to invest in altcoins.

The altcoin coins or leading currencies are strongly influenced by bitcoin. If you are a speculator, I think the moment is appropriate to speculate on coins like ethereum, anchors or litecoin. For Bitcoin, the time to buy is 8k, not now. If you buy BTC now, I think there will be a long period of speculation.

Yes. you always can invest simply because it is gonna feel cheap at this rate in the long term. Keep in mind. The volatility in Crypto is not because of some bubble. It is because it is a brand new asset class and folks are still in the process of adopting it. Very small proportion of world population is active in the game. In several hypothetical scenarios total market for cryptocurrencies can go up to 1% of a total of $80 trillions in the world, thereby, something like 1 trillion.

With the bear season, there is an opportunity to buy cheap altcoins. I don’t know for how long the price will be low, but it seems already on the rise. I see many cryptocurrencies growing in popularity and value. You could certainly invest your money in a well diversified portfolio of Top altcoins, or maybe new emerging ones with huge potential, and see what happens. don't forget that the market will rise after every crash.

Yeah you can invest on altcoins where most of their price is pretty much lower than ever and making profit is just a matter of time. Before making your investment its necessary to choose best altcoins with strong project background. I hope you have enough knowledge to choose the right one. You may take a look on bitcoin's current price growth which is absolutely a good sign too. After having a speech about blockchain technology from china's prime minister crypto market started to shake and if i am not wrong then we will be able to see significant investment from chinese investors soon. So you can also add bitcoin on your choice list for investment.

There's nothing wrong on investing with alt's but make sure you invest on the coins listed already on exchange and been at the top 20 or even in 50 spot on the market ranking since you will have the possibilities to gain more percentage if the alt market goes pump. But if you are looking with the ICO tokens then you are in wrong place since most provably you will be putted on hyip but end up crying in the end since chances to get scammed or you will baghold your bought alt's.

Altcoins are starting to gain, I think there are whales also collecting altcoins right now so its a good time to also stash few of the coins that you think are going to also experience bulls. I have bought some and with just the right amount I could probably earn 5 digits when the coins moon to 0.10USD. Its risky but worth when you see good results to this action.

All time low strategy seams really reasonable and thoughtful. Will probably do something similar like 50% BTC and then spreading the rest across top 25. Am i getting things wrong or is it crucial for projects to climb among top 50 to even be considered as a viable option to invest?

Did quote myself and wrote i missed the group. Will relink the topic to alt discussion! Thank you!

Not really. Its just top 50 projects are 100% assured that they could provide you with something in return. Investing with anything lower than top 50 or even top 100 could sometimes come with risks of you being scammed after all. Plus there's also the profitability in which the top 50 is the best choice.
If you do invest in an altcoin relatively unknown and it pops off, the return would be pretty insansw but that pretty much requires luck and a lot of research.
Your plans pretty good. You can start with eth or xrp first to get used to the market though.

When you talk about investing in cryptocurrency I think so far it's still not too late for that. Because it has good potential in the future, especially with the use of technology each of them has and develops. But if this case is altcoin, you have to look at it from the fundamental side as well and make no mistake in choosing a project that you invest in. As long as the project has good development and innovation then it's very worth it to invest on it. If coupled with the good news we have heard lately, I'm very confident that the price of Bitcoin will continue to soar followed by altcoin.

an even bigger mistake that people make is buying a lot of altcoins, bag holding them and calling that diversification!!!

why do we diversify? is it not to be safe and continue making profit in case one of our investment tanked?
so lets look at the cryptocurrency market. when you buy bitcoin and altcoins and call that diversification, this is what happens to you: bitcoin drops 10% for instance, altcoins drop 10% to 30%. so tell me, what exactly did your diversification do for you?

There's no straight answer for your question especially when Bitcoin and Altcoins aren't moving unanimously all of the time. If you visit coinmarketcap frequently you will sometimes see that Bitcoin is the only one in green and the rest of the market is in a bloodbath sometimes it's the other way around and the only thing in red is Bitcoin (this is sometimes called the alt season). With that kind of market you will get a general perspective that even traders who are already in the market are venturing onto other coins to take profit that's why we see alts going down while BTC is going up or vice versa because even them are offloading position just to take profit onto other cryptocurrencies in the market.

Thats the main thing. With bitcoin being bullish alts are also being bullish. But here comes the concept of reading older charts. If you see the bearish time of bitcoin then the alts were also being very poor. Nobody would even thing of buying them at that time, but now every other social media is asking for tips on which altcoin to buy.

My point is that, dont go FOMO on altcoins. If you are bullish about a specific one then buy it, but at the proper price, not at the all time high price under impulse.

It is always smarter to buy BTC over alts. But this is not the correct price to buy that is ~9k USD. Buying point would have been ~7k USD, unless you have any bullish indicator showing above 9k, I would expect a crash coming soon in bitcoin price. Overall buy bitcoin at its support levels where falling down is less likely. Wink

The best practice is to divide your total capital and invest in several coins/tokens, it minimizes risks.

Altcoin prices in BTC market are pretty low however you should stick with the top 25s or if you want to take a little bit risk then it could be the top 50s imo.
Some traders checks for the all-time high for a coin ever reached, but I prefer all-time low a coin ever reached with my trading strategy. If you can find a coin/token which is in support then it can be a good investment.

Btc is always the first choice, but I don't like a sudden spike and when it is by $1k or $2k I don't like it even more. I believe in steady growth. For you, I won't be saying anything about BTC investment because of its volatility.

Maybe 50% BTC and 50% other coins (10% each or 5% each) could be a good move... add your research... BTC investment should be for long term planning.

Probably this thread belongs to altcoin discussion.

If you have a double capital, it's better to buy BTC and hold it, because the prospect of bitcoin is very clear especially with the many predictions that will make bitcoin jump.
The rest of you can explore altcoin that has good potential instead of just choosing randomly, look for altcoin that is really good on the market and do daily trading even for a little as long as every day.

For Bitcoin, it’s a good idea. With Altcoins I’ll suggest you focus on tokens with a use case in the current market. I am talking about exchange tokens. With a little bullish trend, exchange tokens do well as more people go to trade there and have to minimize fees by holding exchange tokens.

I'm currently diversified to the teeth although I'm still a solid bitcoin bull. People telling you that there isn't money to be made on alts are telling you otherwise, considering that the altcoin market always gets on its feet no matter how hard bitcoin gets punched on the gut. Just a tip: don't dwell on the top performers for altcoins and instead, find some good, new projects wherein there is still money to be made, even if it's just a couple percent. That's the name of the game right now for altcoins and not the old pump-and-dump ICO shizz that has plagued it before the 2017 bull run of bitcoin.

About investing in altcoins in general, here's my view; Altcoiners, don't give up yet. Bitcoin can't do it alone. About Investing in altcoin now, well before you take that decisions you should understand that bitcoin currently, is the most safest investment and it's the coins currently getting all the attention even when few selective altcoins gain prices they get overshadowed by the success of bitcoin.

Irrespective of how I love altcoins, I don't think it's time yet (speakings on a general note) and this are just my personal opinions, they might be wrong so don't consider them a financial advice. For the next few months leading to the halving D-date, bitcoin will still be domination the space so Irrespective.of the altcoin you pick interest in gaining dollar value, the profitability of the satoshi value can't be gauranted so it would had been a better choice to hold bitcoin in tge first place. Don't think bitcoin will be giving room for altcoins anytime soon (on a general note) but few selective ones would still be getting a fair share of the market volume.

Considering events from last week and bullish BTC movement. Is it smarter to just buy BTC and wait or explore some alts and try to profit now (keep in mind i'm not an experienced trader <6 months)

Most of the alts are dominated by Bitcoin, which in layman's terms mean that unless BTC sees a vigorous move on the graph, those alts are mostly stagnant. If you are looking for long-term profit. You can definitely go with Ethereum. It is possibly the most trusted and reputable coin other than Bitcoin that's available right now. With the future updates coming to Ethereum (Ethereum 2.0 - you can look it up) there will be a definite switch from "Mining" to "Staking" which will lower the token generation to an absolute minimum. It is speculated that this should increase the price. However, it's all speculation. Bitcoin is probably the most guaranteed investment (although this is similar to stocks, nothing is guaranteed.) So in the end, everything is your call. But I keep some of my investment in ETH while the rest is in Bitcoin.

You know what, there's always money to be made with altcoins whether you're a bitcoin maximalist or not. It's just that you need to actually pick the right altcoins to put your money in to make a decent profit in the short/mid/long term, which is the most difficult part. You think you can make money this way? Go ahead. Just remember that most people aren't capable of making good trading decisions especially with cryptocurrencies(that are very VERY volatile).
