Today Kanye announced that he will be running for president of the United States, i thought we'd have a thread on it here by now, but here it is, this is his tweet today:
Quote
We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States,” the 43-year-old musician wrote on Independence Day, using the hashtag “2020 vision.
The election is in November, that is four months from now (July) and Kanye West is declaring that he is in the race today, how serious can we take him? Social media has been buzzing and shocked with Kanye's tweet. We all know of Kanye West's support for Donald Trump, so why the sudden change and decision to run against him. There have been so many opinions on this:
Quote
Many on social media have dismissed the announcement as a publicity stunt, though others questioned: How did West go from being a vocal ally of President Donald Trump to announcing a run against him? Is this an attempt to draw some Black voters and young voters away from presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden?
What do you think?

man this is becoming really interesting. first of all if he is serious about, he needs to run as an independent. and if in case he can pull it off, it's just a sudden designated survivor plot that we are looking at. Smiley

The entire 2020 is a like an absurd joke. If West will be the president, it won't surprise me a lot.

Take note, nobody really expected Trump to actually win either. Roll Eyes

The entire 2020 is a like an absurd joke. If West will be the president, it won't surprise me a lot.

I agree, but not to the extent that if he runs... he'll automatically win the presidency. Shocked

I don't think that he is joking.
He has the money to fund a campaign in order to run for president My question is who is going to vote for him and what they are going to expect him to do if he becomes president.

Exactly the point I've mentioned earlier (referring to my prior quote below):

I see, therefore he could if he's really serious about running. Cool

On the flip side though, it could also be a strategy to divert attention and votes away from Biden (to split the opposition movement against Trump), to technically help Trump win eventually instead. Shocked

Just saying, anything's possible... re: Kanye's ambition to run for the 2020 Presidency, or not really.

It's just crazy to see him abusing the media for this. There should be laws against it. It's obvious he doesn't want to be president and just promote his music. I hope people won't fall for this and actually buy more of his music

It's not like the media is obligated to report it, nor are muppets like us obligated to read about it. But maybe Trump can issue another executive order to tell the media to ignore Kanye.

Another +1 to that for SuchMoon.

The media really doesn't have to report on this, they're doing it because they know it will benefit THEM. When you write 'KANYE WEST IS RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT' on an article people are going to click on that link and you're going to get more ad revenue for doing so. No way around that.

If the media reported on every single person that was 'running' for President we'd spend all day going through state by state filling paperwork.

I wouldn't bet on Kanye's fans being able to write, let alone spell his name correctly.

That doesn’t seem appropriate. Can’t tell if you’re being racist or just ignorant.

Are we seriously turning this board into "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" now? Grin

Who cares what Kanye does. Starving for attention apparently.

LOL.

Yeah, the guy is most likely joking OR using this as a publicity stunt to be able to get more public attention for when he drops an album or some songs.

Hasn't filed at all to be eligible to run as an independent in the states that he still can run in. He's not able to run in some states where the presidential filing deadline has already passed.

See here - https://pitchfork.com/news/kanye-west-says-hes-running-for-president-but-he-hasnt-actually-filed-any-paperwork/

This world is really something.

The best way to gain more attention and publicity just announce that you would also run for US President.
We shouldn't really take it seriously and I think there is only small chance for him to win if he is serious about it.

It is no surprise that such a ridiculous candidate as Kanye West has been added to the presidential race. He's black and that's the main reason why he wants to run for president. I think he just wants to draw attention to himself through recent events in the United States.

A couple times in the past Trump would have something coming out like a book or whatever, and he would get the press to push it by saying how he was considering running for President.

Kanye just released a single and announced a new album. Doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out what he's really doing.

"Kanye West tweeted Saturday night that he wants to run for president in 2020 — four months before the election and apparently without having filed with the Federal Election Commission or created a campaign committee."

I am a Kanye West fan back in the day. Cool But first things first and this issue should be resolved, or else, technically there's no need to seriously discuss this any further.

"If West is serious about running, he would have to run as an independent and still get the necessary signatures to be on November's ballot. The deadline to file has already passed in Indiana, Maine, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina and Texas. However, West's name could still be written in anywhere.

The only "Kanye" in the FEC database for this year’s presidential election is a Green Party candidate who has raised $0."

Again, technically speaking... there's nothing here unless proven otherwise, of course. Roll Eyes
@Kilofoxtrot while you’re right that he’s yet not filed his paper’s, but I checked on google apparently he yet has time to submit his paper’s for the election.

@Coyster he’s not joking and he’s serious about running for the Presidents post, but I wonder will the Americans even consider voting for him?.

Are we seriously turning this board into "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" now? Grin

Who cares what Kanye does. Starving for attention apparently.

@suchmoon it would be really sad if it happened as this is one of my favourite boards, and I don’t want to open it and only see kardashian news if Kim becomes the First Lady.

Just a publicity move. Running for President is a great way to keep relevant and get people to attribute value to you for doing nothing. I kinda think this is what Trump was doing by running in the primaries back in 2016 until he slowly realized he was gaining support in the polls. Realistically Kanye doesn't have any sort of shot and isn't actually being serious.

Attention whores gonna whore for attention...

@Gyfts @OgNasty he’s even got himself a Wikipedia page dedicated to his election bid, and Wikipedia is considering deleting this page of his.

Snip

I wouldn't bet on Kanye's fans being able to write, let alone spell his name correctly.

But if he's serious about it (LOL) I suggest picking Taylor Swift for VP.

@suchmoon i don’t think Swift will join in this madness, and I love her music hence I’m hoping that she continues in that industry only, but what about Kim she can definitely become the VP?.
