How do you view love? Is it a strong bond or just a positive feeling? Scientifically, it can be caused by the release of chemicals like dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin etc. Do you think chemical reactions would make you give up your life for your friend? What is your take on this topic?
Thanks for all the answer, Even I am not the one who asked the question.  Grin I just don't know what love really is.
lol so it means you never loved someone before?or you haven’t been loved!?lol just look how your parents brought you grow and you will find what’s the real meaning of love

Maybe if you viewed love as hormonal or sexual desire than maybe it can be explained by chemical reaction, maybe biochemistry. But love as a feeling often can't be explained using rational thought. It often irrational.
True mate that’s what exactly the case and depend on how we look it,because many people misunderstood the meaning of love and some others thought love is the same with lust, that the more you need the person physically is the more you loved them

Whether it is caused by chemicals or not does not matter atall. What matters is how you reciprocate the love. I have heard of psychopaths who love to slaughter people. What is responsible for people loving to slaughter, destroy, etc? dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin?
Now you can see real love is much more than that. It is about unconditional kindness, mercy, care, etc to anything that want kindness, mercy, care etc
No amount of dopamine, serotonin etc would make a bad person love what they hate.

The key word you said in there was unconditional. People may mean different things when they say the word love, or speak of love, but love can only be real if it is unconditional. That means, it has no cause and no ulterior motive. It is not dependent on anything. You only love something when you value it as an end in itself, and not as a means to an end, or what it gives you, in terms of feelings of pleasure, gratification, or anything else.  Otherwise, it is just utility.

Also, when the OP asked if it was just the result of a chemical reaction in the brain/body, this implies a materialistic, reductionist worldview that sees all life as nothing more than atomistic poolballs bouncing around and a soup of chemicals that somehow came together and evolved. To understand the flaw in this worldview, imagine that you were to die in the next moment. What in the chemical composition of your body and brain has changed in that moment?  Atomically and chemically speaking, nothing has changed. It's the same lump of clay/neurons/etc. So the question then becomes, what exactly is animating it?

I would say yes, this is just the chemical reaction.

And no true love exist IMO,people get attracted towards opposite gender based on how attractive they were.

Love at first sight simply the chemical reaction in our mind.

Lol true love does no have scientific explanation not unless Love for you is like having a robot besides you

Love is a feeling given to us by nature and no one can teach us how to do this,my wife is a total opposite of what I’m looking for when I was young but after I meet her the first time then I’m sure she’s the one given to me by whom it may be

In my personal opinion, love goes beyond chemical reactions.
When you love someone and the person love you back then the love can start to grow but we all can think twice when our love and advancement is often rejected.
Love also goes beyond the issue of opposite sex, a father can love his son etc.

Love, and certain other strong, deep thinking, is way more than simple or complex chemical reactions. The complexity of the chemical and bio-energy reactions in the 13th part of the human brain, introduces multitudes of complex structures into the space between the subatomic particles of the atoms. It's these structures that go on to mingle with the universe, and mingle with similar structures of other people, in ways that we can't begin to comprehend scientifically. It's the structures that are set up like this that go on after death, so that people never really die.

As it stands scientifically love truly is nothing more than a bunch of chemicals flooding our brain and synapses firing rapidly. But at the same time, isn't our entire life the same? As a great post once said :

"We are a brain, piloting a bone mech, who is wearing meat armour." It goes to show that life, on a materialistic level, is a simple concept without much behind it, as far as we know.

Now if someone needs to explain such functions as something higher, something more than what science gives us they are free to do so. Although I might not follow them in that same thought, I won't ridicule them either. As for me, yeah, sure. It's not like those who are close to me would mean anything less just because my affection towards them has such a simple explanation.

Love is the process of understanding both the nature and feelings  of people without knowing any specific thing about the person.  Love goes beyound chemical reaction, it is the spiritual understanding of every aspect of human nature.  Chemocal reaction can never be used to explain what love is and the nature or features of love. It is wrong to think of love as a series of chemical reactions without looking at the spiritual aspect.
