Once, Litecoin was a very famous coin and it was called "Digital Silver".
But nowadays, very few people talk about Litecoin anymore.

Is Litecoin dead in your opinion?

Not a single old project has survived until now it has become a dead project. Apart from that, what is the meaning of a dead project or a dead coin in your opinion. For me, a dead project or dead coin is a project/coin that has been abandoned by the developer, there are no project updates and also the price of the coin/token tends to stagnate and decrease periodically.

Then compare the definition I have with the current state of the Litecoin (LTC) project, does it really look like a dead project?

Peoples are not talking about a project that doesn't mean its dead. The focus has been shifted to some other narratives and as ETH is dominating the altcoin market, most of the discussion is evolving around ETH and any project or concept related to ETH. Even if LTC doesn't get any headlines, it will still make a positive ROI for its investors as it is still widely used in the online payment network as an alternative to payments in various marketplaces. But from a investment perspective, i don't think LTC is a golden coin anymore.

Litecoin is still one of the top 20 coins if you checked carefully in CoinMarketCap. It basically remains a famous coin, there is no big change in the popularity of this coin. If its position dropped, it is normal because of the competition among other top coins. I think it may raise again its position someday if there is a new innovation in this Litecoin. So, it is strange if you said it is dead already. Besides those reasons, Litecoin is also still listed in varied top exchanges in the world. It means there is still a lot of people who trade or invest in Litecoin.

By the way, the coin is still alive as long as the coin is listed in an exchange. It is dead when there is no people who trade it and it is listed no where.

I think altcoins like LTC will never die in the crypto market even though their prices and interest have decreased slightly, because litcoin is one of the altcoins that has enormous popularity and potential in the crypto world, where up to now LTC is still ranked 19th in the CMC At a price of $81.05, in my opinion LTC is just behind the trend of new coins which are currently booming, I'm sure that gradually everyone will prioritize LTC again because this coin has great potential.

Define dead.

IMO LTC is not dead, it's always fine because there are no CEX delist it, still on top 100 coins, and the price relatively stable.

I'd say a coin is dead if the coin didn't include in all three criteria I mentioned above. Just like LUNA and UST which used to stay at top 100 coins, but went below 100 ranks right now.

It is not easy to predict the future of currencies in the crypto world, many altcoins are doing well after ETF approval. Litecoin holds promise as a long term investment Litecoin is not dead. Its strong technological base active development community and widespread adoption contribute to its growth potential.

Litecoin is not mentioned as much as before because nowadays there are too many new Altcoins launched with new stories, so it is completely normal for a long-standing Altcoin like Litecoin not to be mentioned much. The Litecoin halving event has been over for a while but not many people have mentioned it.

However, in my personal opinion, Litecoin cannot die, because it is currently traded on many major exchanges with large and stable volume, and its capitalization is also among the top coins which has large market capitalization. It's not easy for such a large Altcoin to collapse, it's just that Litecoin no longer has many attractive stories and is suitable for the current period. You can look at the Luna coin, it is clearly a scam Altcoin, with the founder being arrested but it is still alive and still being traded, there is no reason why Litecoin can die.

Besides, Litecoin is still used for payment and transaction purposes everywhere in the world with faster speeds and cheaper transaction fees than Bitcoin, and the mining community of this coin is still very large. Another important thing is that this is a mining coin, currently there is no one behind managing it but belongs to the community, so the possibility that Litecoin is not considered a security is very high next to Bitcoin, helping Litecoin investors can rest assured not to be sued by the SEC.

Litecoin was one of the few coins I had my eyes on when I newly discovered cryptocurrency and I used it in place of Bitcoin for many years to make payments and receive money. And the fact that it was so convenient to do that, I believe that it was a voice to reckon with, especially by the status of the second cryptocurrency ever created. But this coin refuses to live up to expectations, and I think it's because of the too-much similarity to Bitcoin. Everything you see as improvements in Bitcoin will quickly be replicated in Litecoin. The scalability is another issue, we can't compare it with the likes of Ethereum, BNB chain ecosystem, and Solana among others.

Well, if it can break away from copying Bitcoin and improve its scalability, anything can still happen in the future.

It's not dead, but it's not in the best position. If nothing changes, most likely it will die with time. It was actually one of my first coins.

Well now we are getting closer to the bitcoin halving in now a few days. And Litecoin does show us some signs up volatility around this.

There is on chain metrics that does support a big increase before the halving.  https://ambcrypto.com/making-the-case-for-litecoins-breakout-before-bitcoins-halving/

It always does, it's price movement is usually very tied to BTC.

Lite coin is not being talked about or discussed as it use to be, this could be as a result of change in narratives in the crypto world. People have now found a new innovations that has changed the narratives of what litecoin could intercede for and are now making use of them. Litecoin is not dead, I still use them even if it is not often. It still works on the same narratives as it use to be and people still make use of them because they still have trading volume. Some will say they’re not dead but already dying which could be reasonable.

Really in even the last year bitcoin congratulations that occurred, many participants in signature campaigns were asked to use Litecoin wallet to receive their pay and after that rampant calling of the name and using the coins at that time, I didn't hear anything again. And since then till now you are the first person that made a thread.on Litecoin because really the name just die down in the forum but I believed even though people are not calling the name, the real project is still working actively. Probably people are not using it like before again.

For me litecoin is not dead, the thing is people doesn't like to invest in litecoin and I know quite well that litecoin by now suppose to have dominance over all the new coins that is new, so basically we don't need to be thinking that litecoin is dead, so litecoin is into existence, I'm seeing things that many people does not encouraging the litecoin or invest on it as they do reject its investment now.

Litecoin is not dead yet, just that many people have found other coins that will going to give them what they want in the future, you can see that the price of Litecoin price still remain low and those that invested their money some years ago are still hodling their Litecoin for the price to reach $100 before they can manage sell to change another coin to invest their capital.

Litecoin was my first coin I use to start investment because the coin was doing well in the past, before some coins started paying well more than Litecoin that made their customers to reduced till date.

If you want to invest, don't invest in Litecoin because you will not make a good profits from the investment because the team behind Litecoin these days don't have the capacity to make it happen again to make their customers to make profits like ETH customers.

Thank you so much for your information, but does it mean that litecoin doesn't have the potential to recover?

Not even reliable to be called as a digital silver anymore. It's slowly dying caused by it has no good volatility due to the lack of demand. Litecoin is still alive caused by historically, litecoin was an old coin and it's bitcoin fork coin.

But nowadays, very few people talk about Litecoin anymore.
There were many interesting tokens that offered us many advantages and utilities. Why should we talk about an old coin that has nothing to offer than being a payment system?

Technically not dead because of the recent halving and the price update.
We can't conclude that LTC is dead because no one is talking about it, maybe some group are also focusing with LTC.
I still see a good position for LTC and despite of being not talked about, they are still working for their improvements and for sure they will continue to stay on top altcoins and many will still see the real value and worth of LTC.

Far from it. It's heavily used as a low-cost transfer option and is commonly used by many. Furthermore, during every bull run, it performs very well. To be fair, compared to BTC, it actually has a realistic use case and is being used for it.

For me yes, as a forked of Bitcoin, Litecoin seems going to be dead or already dead. As you can see, there are already a lot of new altcoins that have other use cases compared to Litecoin which is a forked to Bitcoin and being used as an alternative for Bitcoin in most cases.

Even if you check in the the current price and all-time high, it's still around 80% from its all-time high compared to Bitcoin that already created new and other altcoins almost to create new all-time high.

Despite bait-like question, i guess it's good for people to check that from time to time why people aren't talking about it. Litecoin serves a purpose as a testing groud for bitcoin tech, as architechture of it is similar. But it isn't really revolutionary or media sexy to create enough buzz.

Litecoin gets its moment in news when it spikes, but that's about it. I can't recommend it, mostly because i never understood why it would be worth something. It's basically another bitcoin. It had cheap transactions in the past so people were using it to transfer wealth between exchanges. But now we have faster and cheaper options, so to me it has run out of the purpose it was best at.

In theory i like the idea that it never raised any money via private sale or some crappy ico, and it has stayed honest to cryptocurrency ethos. But i just don't see enough shining future for it, and i wouldn't recommend it to friend.

It doesn't mean that when a certain coin is not being talked about, it's dead already but it's more like not relevant to the current trend or narrative that we have on the market. It's always about the narrative when it comes to being talked about.

You would consider it dead if there's no volume and no one is trading it anymore. It's not the case with LTC.
Yes that's right, it doesn't mean that a project is not talked about so they are claimed to be dead, if we use the network on Litecoin it can still be used, indicating that it is still alive, but indeed when no one is talking about it is normal because it doesn't have many project developments that match the discussion of the progress of the narrative in the cryptocurrency industry, it's just that in my opinion Litecoin lacks popularity because there are few demographics or adoption in terms of use casa the crypto hunters are not really looking at it.

This is the same as market performance in general, we see a definite trend that people will prefer to the field that has a trend at this time for their use.

I wouldn't consider Litecoin, dead too, because it still has volume and people are still trading it, the issue is that it's just not trending right now, we have a lot of projects that are in the limelight in this road to bull run. Remember that sometime last year the same question was being asked about Solana, some where even speculating whether it's dead, but fast forward to now, it's the most talked about altcoin in the crypto space, so I believe that Litecoin dev. team can become innovative and restore it's lost glory. Litecoin, remains a top altcoin, as far as I'm concerned.

It seems that:
BTC & ETH fees go up -> LTC price goes up.
BTC & ETH fees go down -> LTC price goes down.

Obviously not a 100% correlation but it just feels that way to me.

But anyway, looking at how many people use it and the volume it does not dead or even close to it.

It's just not "exciting" it does it's job so there is nothing to talk about so nobody talks about it.

No it might seem that not a lot of people are talking about it but it’s literally the next altcoin to be considered for etf after ethereum. The etf approval might not actually come until after a year or maybe years but the fact that it is being considered is huge enough as it is already. I think its investors can still gain profits from it albeit I am not one.

I'm not a LiteCoin Investor fan because I haven't Invested in it for once but I'm aware that it has been playing a strong role holding in the AltCoins industry which some friends that's mostly Invested on.
Op, I can only tell that despite how popular some Coins maybe, they can still be functional and doing good in the crypto markets without showcasing its influences.
Actually, there had been numerous number of new project coins trending in the Crypto markets time after times and their overhyping sometimes subdues the influences of other coins. Maybe that'd be what the LiteCoin is far encountering and not basically that it's a dead coin.

You can as clearetour doubt out here that you can find Litecoin on trend in the Crypto coins market cap.

Ranked 20th coin on CMC, how can you conclude that Litecoin is dead? If people are not talking about it that doesn't mean it is losing its big community. People still prefer using it for payments as it has good speed and fewer transaction fees. With the speculation of a Litecoin ETF getting approved, we recently saw a surge in its price also due to the short bull run. For now, it is one of the cryptocurrencies that should be on the list of any intelligent investors.

Well Litecoin did lose alot of its profits now in this correction. It did lose more then 25% of the marketcap in just last 7 days. But it is still a token in my crypto portfolio it is not dead.
There is still fast transaction speeds for it. And the fees to send LTC is only just a few satoshis. There is double the transaction size on the network so it means whales moving coins.

There's just that not many development in litecoin that there's not that many to talk about and just because there's not a lot of people that are talking about litecoin doesn't mean that it's gone for good, got to remember that people are still invested in it so they can't just abandon that and they can't afford to do it with the lawsuits and the money that they're going to let go off, litecoin is here to stay whether you like it or not. Looking at their current price might not help but I'm sure that you can still invest in it and see yourself hodling with some hope that you'll be getting your money back, just don't put in too much into it because it's not as hot right now.

Litecoin is not dead, but I believe it has had problems to establish new time highs and wake up the hype of the public for it's implied potential to be used widely as a faster version of Bitcoin. But the volume of commerce and trading suggest this is a an alternative currency which is very far from being dead or completely abandoned by either the public or exchanges.

If you want to know who a dead coin actually looks like, then you should take a look at shitcoins around the market and failed memecoins whose price through time get flat lined in a few months after launch, losing close to the 100% of their market value, leaving people holding the bags forever. Litecoin may not be as bullish as other coins which may have more to offer in terms of technology and smarth contracts, but it will never leave people holding the bags forever as shitcoins do.  Wink

Just like pancakeswap, you need to know that many investors are removing their money and putting it in an investment that is going to give to profits within a space of time. No one ever cares about the utility of a token again. Many of the good crypto projects that was able to survive the market are not doing well like the way they used to. Many people are tired of putting their funds in a dormant tokens because it's going to take the ages before things is finally done that will help the project go bullish.
We can survived in the market because we choose to stay with promising projects. The bullish season is harvest, we withdraw our gigantic profits and forever stay grateful for the steps taken. Investors no longer waste their precious time on projects that have been consider abandon, after this particular LTC project have made quite some good pumps in past years and I think it's time for these new projects to make theirs. Investors are not dormant but will be moving from one level to another inother to seek excellent outcome.

Not at all.  The problem is we are living in a crypto get rich quick time.  People would rather put their money into dogcatcowcoin than something that is technically superior to all of those "projects" combined.  Once all the dust settles on those fads people always come back to the viable projects.  Not dead just quietly moving forward.

No.
Although its overall move is sluggish, it's not dead at all. It's still a good alternative for transfers and the community that it has established is still supporting it. That's why I don't think that litecoin is dead at all, and I don't think it will come to that point because just like Dogecoin, there's already a dear community that's supporting it no matter how sluggish and slow it moves.

It's still one of the preferred coin to make payments but as we all know investors give more attention to the price growth more than anything so it's buried under the trends after trends so you don't see much about it anywhere. How do you define a dead coin?

While Litecoin is certainly not as popular or widely-discussed as it once was, I would not call it dead by any means.  True, it doesnt generate the same excitement or headlines as in its early days.  But, it remains one of the top 20 cryptocurrencies by Market Cap Ranking.  And compared to other altcoins its transaction volume is still quite significant.  There remains an active, devoted community supporting the coin, in addition to developers continuing work to enhance the underlying technology. So, no! Not dead.

LTC is not dead, it's just that people don't think about investing in this coin anymore. I feel that this coin has experienced a dead trend because there is not much talk about it, LTC has been halving but it doesn't have any impact, or is it not a rally yet?

Now LTC is losing far to the new altcoins because the concept is different while many investors choose coins that are full of functions against their use, I don't know what the future is clearly not saving LTC assets.

As the value of the coins in crypto currency fluctuates. I can't call litecoin dead despite its value as a coin. Maybe the coin has been in a coma for a long time in terms of value, so the coin has gone into a coma. I think Litecoin still has a strong, solid foundation. Granted, litecoin isn't getting as much hype as some other projects at the moment. But I am optimistic, since the coin has been in the market for a long time and the market is likely to grow and develop in the future. It may take a little longer for the market to turn around.

Based on the price history of LTC, the ATH was recorded in 2021, and since then till now, the price has not really been so encouraging for investors, but we cannot expect every coin to act in the same manner as Bitcoin or every other altcoin. Since the last ATH, the price has already dropped by 80%, but that doesn't mean the coin is dead. There are still a lot of investors and traders who are buying and selling LTC every day, and even some casinos accept deposits in LTC. Lite Coin is among the coins with a low transaction fee and fast transaction confirmation. Upon seeing this topic, it reminded me to check the coin price, which I did, and I also checked the unfilled orders, which you can see below. You will discover that there are many people who are buying this coin in quantity, and so many people too have unexecuted sell orders. LTC is not dead, though the price is not impressive, but if you are holding, you can just keep holding; maybe you're going to get impressed by the price one day.

in a time when tokenization is becoming common, LTC's popularity is getting slimmer.  it is still alive there used to be a big community in LTC with a forum but they shut down the forum so it's hard to say where they spend the LTC.

there was a discussion somewhere in the forum saying it is more logical to have LTC ETF than ETH since LTC is the same as BTC which is not considered a security. while many would agree to it, there are just more institutions that are filing ETH ETF.

I think the reason why you are viewing LTC as a dead coin is because you have not been seeing it on trending news like SOL and others are making front pages, but that's far from how you should grade a good and live coin.

During the time when the bitcoin  network was congested, part of the coins were used by many to carry out their transactions since they also had a cheap rate and a high processing capacity in terms of speed. The project is alive and it's still widely used.

I don't think it's dead. LTC is one the most famous projects that is widely used for crypto transactions. It has a high processing power and speed of transaction. It's doing pretty well in the market also.

Now the question arises, why are people not talking about it? It's because I've heard that there is some technical issue going on with the projects and the developers are working on it. Moreover the meme coins have attracted the market so much that people don't want to be a part of long term growing on projects. We are focusing more on short term profits.

Litecoin is still live and will still have market pumps but the concept is pretty much dead. People soon realized that "silver to bitcoin's gold" is such a dumb selling point that even I can't believe that I fell for that narrative back in 2016.

Still a good protocol for developers to test things out though.

Is Litecoin dead in your opinion?

I wouldn't say Litecoin is dead, not by a long shot.  Sure, it might not make as many headlines nowdays as in the past, but for me it's still very much alive and kickin'.  I actually prefer using it for daily transactions rather than Bitcoin because the fees are so much lower.  and  Litecoin might not have all the glitz and glamor of some newer cryptos but for getting stuff done fast and on the cheap, it just works.

You would consider it dead if there's no volume and no one is trading it anymore. It's not the case with LTC.
Even though the daily trading volume is ~$1,100,000,000 (seen on coinmarketcap), for me this project has long looked "half-dead".

Trading volumes are not the only indicator that determines the “liveness” of a project. How are things going with the technological development of this project? How long ago were the improvements made?

A project stops “living” as soon as it stops developing. Isn't that right?

Once, Litecoin was a very famous coin and it was called "Digital Silver".
But nowadays, very few people talk about Litecoin anymore.

Is Litecoin dead in your opinion?
The boom times of LTC are far behind and it is difficult for me to consider this project “alive”; the founder gets rid of all his litecoins (under the pretext of not having a conflict of interest with the project) and with the proceeds buys (attention) a traditional bank. For me, initially it looked as if the founder of this project was initially aimed only at earning easy money, and not at developing the project. This project was “stillborn” from the very beginning (imho).

Why do you need digital silver if there is digital gold?

Far from it.

Does it look like a dead coin to you?

It is the most preferred crypto on bitpay which is the post preferred payment processor. The stats in March isn't much different. LTC is still dominating crypto payments and it is the 5th month in a row. See it yourself: https://bitpay.com/stats/

Its price is a different story though. Price-wise it has been doing crap lately.

I don't think LTC is dead if you check the google trends the search about LTC increases a bit, their GitHub page and developers are active they are still submitting commits and fixing some issues.

Check the news there are lots of news about LTC the only reason you didn't hear much about Litecoin it's because there are many projects that outperform Litecoin and new coins are more active than LTC but it doesn't mean LTC is dead or will be dead.
