There are plenty of freely available calculator tools you can use to figure out if mining is profitable still for YOU.

That's no fun at all.

I think anyone who's on the fence about it should mine solo and configure their machines to play a siren and spit confetti when a hash is found.

Much more exciting than math.

Hahaha..love that idea  Grin

No guys, mining is now utterly pointless...you must halt all mining operations immediately or you shall be prosecuted by the bitcoin police.

No but seriously yes mining is STILL worth it. You just have to have cheap electricity and a reasonable hashing rate. There are plenty of freely available calculator tools you can use to figure out if mining is profitable still for YOU.

At my power costs, a pair of 4850s would cost me about $0.90 a day to run. Probably double that actually as I'm paying to cool the house they would be sitting in.

I would not be inclined to run the cards for a possible $0.70 per day.

Re. the original question: 0.3 BTC/day is about 2.50 USD/day. Given that your electricity costs from mining are probably less than that, I'd say it's "worth it" in the sense of being profitable on the margin. Whether it's worth the trouble is something only you can answer.

I think I need to upgrade my system.  On my netbook I get around 42-44Mh/s (Alienware M11x).  Oh well I was planning on getting a new desktop system anyway.

Yeah, I'm only getting a combined 200Mhs, which apparently isn't much these days.

That's actually really, really good for those cards.  My two old 4850s only give me 65 to 78 Mhash/sec each.

Yeah, I'm only getting a combined 200Mhs, which apparently isn't much these days. I remember a year ago, I was getting several a night. It's crazy how things have compounded so greatly. Shit, if I came back a month ago, like I planned I would be making so much more. Literally right now is the peak in my opinion.

Look up the power consumption and do the math. It's not hard.

Also, keep in mind that difficulty is going to jump another 70+% in an hour or so.

I don't know what the MHash/W is for a 4850 but I imagine it's pretty low. The 5xxx series seems to be where it is at for mining right now, other cards might be forced to drop out.

I just made .2 BTC in the past 16 hours running off my two 4850s. WTH? Granted I havent actually mined for a good year now, but is it really this bad now? I can't imagine 1 BTC every 2 days being worth it after all the electricity being used.
