It's good to know you still realize that the Bitcoin belongs to your friend, just find a way to get it over to him and if he still refuses to, find a way to get accros to a family member and then give it to the family member

But why? He has tried to hand over bitcoins several times already. Why should he insist on that if the other side doesn't want them?
Also, handing it over to his family members does not make too much sense.

It’s his bitcoin dude

I feel like a sucker using a couple paragraphs to explain my opinion.  :/
Well you are indeed sucking a nipple on your avatar so I guess it fits? ahah

I guess most women don't care if you confuse suck with lick.  Tongue

My comment was not to diss his opinion, just a suggestion he back it up with more info.
ahaha indeed your analysis is correct, I'm sorry!

And I totally understood what you meant, I just couldn't let pass the opportunity to say something about suck / lick in a sentence ahah

On a more serious note I have to agree with your previous post. OP tried his best to :

1st - Talk him into the crypto world
2nd - Tried his best to explain all the concepts behind it and to help him in trying to understand what he would be receiving;
3rd - Tried to give him back but had nothing but bad words / lack of empathy from his friend.

Again, OP should do what it makes him sleep better at night but if he took the BTC for his own I don't think it would be such an unethical thing to do. Plus his friend already proved that he doesn't know what he holds nor he is very much worried about having his item back.

But again OP, if it makes you sleep better at night just ask him if he wants his BTC back or if he still doesn't care or doesn't want to talk with you. AT least you exhausted every possible way of speaking to him...

It’s his bitcoin dude, you really need to do the right thing & try to get it back to him. Prove yourself to be a better man than he is. Your conscience will be clear& you can continue your life without him in it.

So i have a former friend who got paid in bitcoin once, but he wasn’t very tech savy, or cared to learn about how to use bitcoin. He then asked me to receive the payment for him. Later that year we had a falling out and when I tried to give him his bitcoin back he ignored it. I tried to help him get a mobile wallet, a hardware wallet, or even an exchange account. He didn’t bother to do it. He rather argue and disrespect me than getting his bitcoin.

I later spoke to him a couple of months after that to get something back from him that was mine. He sent it back with no problem, but he did not ask about his bitcoin.

After that word got back to me that he made fun of me, dragged my name to everyone we knew, called my wife a slut, and talked shit about my mother. We’ve never crossed paths again or spoken for about 2 years now.

Does this mean the bitcoin is mine to keep now? They never asked me about it and I can only assume they are letting me keep it.

He will drag you more for that, I think you find way to give him back the Bitcoin, if he still doesn't want, you can contact his family and talk to them about it, except maybe the Bitcoin isn't that much for you to worry about it

Why are you asking this now ? Because you are now interested about the Bitcoin because the value goes really High ?

because if this is not your concern , you should have asked this long ago as you are not spoken for 2 years , and you are curious what is the pulse of people around here to what will your friends do or tell you once He finds out that you take the Bitcoin and use this for your own cause .

Don't Let us feel the Stupidity mate , Decide for your self that I'm sure you are very interested using this as the Price is really tempting .

I think this is already the consent from him. You put an effort to give it back to him but you were ignored. But if I were you, what do you plan? selling it?

I'll just keep it so if he changes his mind, it's all up to you if you'll return it to him or at least give him some commission or token of appreciation. Needless to say, it's in your custody now.

Thanks for the insight to all. The amount of btc is 0.12 BTC

So your friend gave you some junk that became valuable?  it happens all the time - I can't give a friend an elvis record and then ask for it back if it becomes a collectors item.

Legally, it is a gift.   Morally, you tried to give it back when it became valuable.

Don't bother self justifying it reminding yourself what an asshole he was.  The bitcoin are yours.

Or, if you really want to give them back, just tell them that you still hold them and ask him what he wants to do with them.

It's hard to say. I recommend you take independent legal advice or at least an online community that deals with legal issues. Especially if it is a larger amount, which is most likely due to the time passed.

We are not "that" kind of forum.  Wink

He did send the receiving address over to the payer from his email, but the address is mine.
Well even better one might say. Still, do whatever lets you sleep better at night. From someone who is from the outside, it looks like you've tried your best to help him but he kept neglecting your help...

The way I see it they're yours now to keep. You've tried your best to give them, even went to the extent of trying to teach him how to keep them safe and such. Still he didn't wanted and even went to the extent of calling you and your wife names. It seems he didn't deserved your friendship, let alone your help.

One question though : Can he claim that the BTC are his since he received them as a payment?

Still, if they were important to him, he would have reminded already, considering that BTC now is valued at around 37k. And it's not that you can send them to him since, like you said, he isn't very tech savy ...
