Just add or replace your card with much more efficient cards, like RX 580 or RX570 then you are good to go.

Ok then I guess I'll just get rid of the 960 and get a used 1070 instead (maybe two if I can find a really good deal)
Yes it's quite a decent 500W PSU from Corsair I guess it should be just fine then
Thanks guys!

Hi there, new around here and looking to try mining with nicehash just for testing/learning the whole process

I just wasn't sure if my current setup even meets the minimum hardware requirements for mining (particularly the PSU)

Here's my setup:

CPU: i7 4770k
GPU: GTX 960 4GB
PSU: 500W

I've found out it would be making around $1.00 worth of BTC a day but this is less of a concern

I'm was more concerned with the CPU wattage being possibly too low? Is there any risk of it burning?

The GTX 960 is roughly on par with a 7850 when mining on equihash. In general, Nvidia GPUs didn't become competitive options for dedicated mining rigs until the 10-series GPUs were released.

Depending on your power costs, it may or may not be worth mining with a single 960. (Keep in mind your power draw includes the pegged graphics card, AND all other components of the rig that are required to host it.)

Your CPU is overkill for a dedicated mining rig, but that's not a big deal. If your PSU is a quality 500W PSU, it should have no problem running your setup.

you can try to get GPU RX480,580 or NVIDIA series 1060,1070. Celeron Processor is enough.

The 960 isnt a good card to mine.
The CPU is oversized but works.
Best you buy 1 or 2 1070 to start with
