It looks like one side is as bad as the other over there now. Not a very professional or disciplined military by the looks of it. Even though these are terrorists they are dealing with is it acceptable to behave like the savages?

Amnesty International has accused the Nigerian military and civilian militias of "extensive human rights violations" in their fight against extremists in the northeast of the country.

The global rights watchdog said gruesome video footage, images and witness testimonies collected during a research mission in Borno state found "fresh evidence of extrajudicial executions and serious human rights violations" in the region.

The footage includes detainees having their throats cut one by one and then dumped in mass graves by men who "appear to be members of the Nigerian military and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF)", it said.

"These are not the images we expect from a government which sees itself as having a leadership role in Africa."

Nigeria could be seen as a blessing to the continent Africa because she played a crucial roll in the formation of ECOWAS, she also supplies electricity to some countries in Africa and also have the highest population. In terms of security she fathered so many peace keeping nation to ensures the continent enjoys peace and stability. Nigeria is in did a blessing to Africa.

It's not by how far, instead by how well, if you have once been an hero, then try as much as possible to maintain the same hero you are and keep up the same standard, there are indices in which we put into consideration in other to ascertain that a country is developing and moving forward, such could on running a check about it's recent achievement and developments in other to know how progressive they have been.
Notably among the other achievements that Nigeria can consider to claim the role of giant of Africa is in the position the country occupied in the organization mentioned in this discussion, if you have being in touch with the inner politics of ECOWAS, you will already know that Nigeria plays a significant role in that institution and most of the officials are made up Nigerians occupying high offices in ECOWAS even as the present president of Nigeria still retain the position of the the head of ECOWAS in recent development.
This event point to the important role the Nigeria plays in Africa and most especially in the west African sub region, but on the continental stage, Africa still have other good performing countries that can be counted as a blessing because of the role their plays in a significant Factor as it concern the African continent.

Who fed you with such kind of information that most Nigerians are scammers? Are you saying this from a fact point of view or you're just relying on what you've seen on the Internet to make this kind of statement?

Yep I got scammed by a Nigerian where I bought stuff online a but it never arrived and he just ignored any correspondence afterwards but thankfully the idiot left his gps coordinates on the photo of the item he had for sale  so I managed to go fetch it. They only make up a tiny fraction of the population here also so what were the odds? I also worked with a Nigerian once and he was the worst rat on the planet going behind my back and telling the boss everything we were talking about in the canteen. Treacherous little spy he was.
You are judging a whole country based on your personal encounter with two of it's citizens that scammed you, I think it's very unfair. So what will happen if you perhaps encounters about ten Nigerians that are very pius, will you give the country a pass mark for having the most sincere people? If you carry out a proper research about Nigeria, you will find out that it has a population of over 200 million people and they can't all be scammers, as a matter of fact most Nigerians are sincere and hardworking people. If you talk about bad governance then I will agree with you, our leaders like the leaders of most countries are corrupt, so corruption is not limited to the Nigerian government alone.

Nigeria, is the giant of Africa, but truth be told, the country is presently a sleeping giant, thanks to it's leaders, not the average hardworking Nigerian.

Good evening. You have made a response that is out of context because I have not accused all Nigerian people of being scammers. I simply asked why are so many Nigerians scammers? A question is not an accusation and also asking why so many are does not imply that all are.

I could also ask why Romanians have a large amount of pick pockets roaming the streets of Europe but I am already aware that is part of Roma "culture" that is "culturally enriching" our European cities but I am curious as to how so many scammers originate from Nigeria?

This does not suggest or imply that all people from Romania or Nigeria are scammers.

Here let this be just one example of many that gives one explanation :

https://www.tbsnews.net/features/panorama/why-so-many-scams-originate-nigeria-882326

,but it does not give the perspective from a person who is Nigerian so I thought I would ask here instead unless it is off topic of course and then the moderator could decide.

Do you understand?

Any idea why so many Nigerians are scammers? Also why do so many Nigerians emigrate to europe if Nigeria is so great?

Have you been scammed by any Nigerian before? Who told you that Nigerians are scammers, how did you know that Nigerians are scammers? Please sometimes we have to know what we are going to say so that we won’t put ourselves in trouble, what if Nigerian people ask you how you know and you don’t have evidence about it? No country doesn’t have scammers, every country is corrupt, the reason why Nigeria is always mentioned is that the Nigerians who are scammers have shown their self to the public that they scammed people and don’t care about what people others are going to say about it.

Nigerian is a blessed country that the world knows that Nigeria is among the countries that are blessed with natural resources, Nigeria is blessed with mineral resources and that’s what the country is still benefiting from, if you get scammed doesn’t mean that you are scammed by Nigerian people, every country has those who are scammed and make sure you secure your wallet to avoid scammers, it is not that I’m supporting Nigerian, I’m just saying it just to let you know that not only Nigeria has the scammers.

Nigeria has the potential to be a blessing to Africa due to its large economy, cultural diversity & regional influence. Negative things like corruption & security threats hinder its progress. Nigeria's impact on Africa depends on addressing these challenges and promoting inclusive development & cooperation with other African nations.
Regardless of the state of Nigeria today, we're still pride of Africa. In terms of cultural and global recognition, Nigeria always seen as big brother Africa.  In sport  music and content creation Nigeriana are ahead of all other Africa country. Our population is our advantage,  in all social media Nigeria population always Dominate. Truly we're the giant of Africa with corrupt foots.

You actually speak the truth about us, I can't dispute the fact that Nigeria recognition is far ahead of any africa nations but in negative things because I think we are only blessed to Africa in time of population and nothing else, everything we have as minerals resources the others africa country have too, in general African are blessed but we are lacking good governance, as far as am concerned Nigeria are been treated as bad people but all this is the fault of our leader who love themselves more than their country, because if really they can manage our resources well we will all be leaving a nice life.

Aside from all of those brief summary that you've given on how it became a blessing on its own continent. I think it's also a blessing because it was reported last year on how huge it's got for the share it's giving for its economy because of the trading volume that it's having from its own people. It's sad that the government has to be strict on that term because they think that it's a threat. They should see it as another way to gain more capital to fund government budgets and infrastructures from the taxes that it will get from that market share.

This is so true. And most of the countries that has corrupt officials delays the progress of these countries despite that all of them have that classification to thrive their economy very well.

What Nigeria can easily boost off is their numerical strength

It should be able to boost off all the bonny light crude it has or had if some fat greedy politicans there hadn't been misappropriating "mismanaging" all that revenue that belongs to the people of Nigeria.

That blessing you are mentioning that Nigeria is to Africa, I as a Nigerian I've not seen it. Nigeria should first be a blessing to itself first before wanting to be a blessing to other African countries across the Sahara. This issue of Nigeria supplying another African country electricity is another mirage i find very difficult to believe why because, Nigeria itself doesn't generate enough electricity to supply her citizens because the national power grid collapse every now and then, so how do i believe such kind of story that nigeria supplies another country electricity.

What Nigeria can easily boost off is their numerical strength, which is the largest in Africa, outside that I don't see anywhere their pride is coming from. If you look towards the economic aspect, south Africa has a more sustainable economy than Nigeria in terms of GDP per capita.
The ECOWAS you mentioned is just a council of west African states, so it doesn't encompass the entire Africa and all the members of the council do supply military assistance to a country that is at war for  peace keeping.

Of course. Every nation in Africa is a blessing, not just Nigeria. In the Old days, Nigeria was regarded as the giant of Africa because of their rich supply of oil and other natural resources, and like you mentioned, they supply electricity to ther nations but right now, these nations have developed and are doing well for themselves.
Out of the 54 countries (56 if you add Somaliland and Western Sahara which is under dispute), 10 have been marked the richest according to IMF in 2024 and sadly Nigeria isn't part of them.
These stats give a better representation of data carried out by the IMF of countries who hold wealth.

I don't have an issue with Nigeria, alright. It's just that presently, they have  been reduced to a shadow of themselves and it's not by being called the Giant of Africa, are you living up to the name?

Who fed you with such kind of information that most Nigerians are scammers? Are you saying this from a fact point of view or you're just relying on what you've seen on the Internet to make this kind of statement?  The people that comprise the scamming ecosystem revolve around the different parts of the world and it's an individualistic issue that a person decides to scam others or chooses to do another meaningful thing with his life.

I wouldn't agree with the OP in his assertion that Nigeria is a blessing to Africa with regards to the point he outlined even though in the real sense, Nigeria and Nigerians have represented Africa on the global stage in so many sectors. I would rather say that Nigeria just like any other African country is a blessing to Africa From all indications, most of the problems Nigeria is facing range from economic, financial, security, health, bad leadership, development, and whatever things you can think of is what almost all the other African countries are still struggling with and so when we talk about our wins, it should be more of an African narrative rather than just a country's effort.

And from the point of view of development, how does it show itself? Africa has always been poor and undeveloped.

It may be because it has always been in the eye of colonizers. But it would be unfair to blame others on their own problems, after all, each country  is supposed to have their own destiny in their hands, but one also needs context to realize how the people from a whole continent got the themselves in such a situation of under development and economical crisis, which does not seem to go away easily.

Also, I find it a bit egocentric and nationalist to claim one's country is a blessing for the rest of the continent one is, as if there were no other countries which could have a similar situation or culture near one's.

Plenty of countries were colonized by the british and have become wealthier than most nations once they got rid of those fookers. Take for example Ireland who were treated as bad and worse than some africans and is now one of the wealthiest countries. African countries are like the permanent victim and nobody believes them anymore. South africa has black racist supremacist rule for the last 40 years and they cant even keep the lights on and are still blaming the white farmer who feeds them still everyday. Also the anti white racist extremist EFF party advocate murdering white farmers in public while the rest of Africa blames europe for everything. Yes the belgians etc were filthy bastards to those in central africa but their own tribes were just as bad to them and responsible for working hand in hand with the colonizers.
