If you want to have a look around nxtfreemarket then...

https://freemarketlite.cc/

...is a pass through web service so you don't have to download anything. It lists the items that are for sale.

Not the place to market it.  But I'll have a peek.

Is there any eta when this or the other markets will be ready and operational? They can't come soon enough in my opinion.

anyone been using it yet,

No. Amir is still working on it unfortunately

Amir isn't involved. If you look at the commits on github (https://github.com/OpenBazaar/OpenBazaar/graphs/contributors) you can see that genjix (Amir) only contributed at the beginning, after that Brian forked it to OpenBazaar and has been the main developer.

I thought he was? Last I heard from him he was working on it or is he working on another market now?

No. It's still in development as are a few other decentralized markets and exchanges. I'm sure when it goes live this forum will be packed full of threads and discussion about it. I'm quite excited for them personally.

what other decentralized markets like OB are opening up?

www.nxtfreemarket.com has been running for a few months.

No one seems interested in legitimate 'ebay' style sites, they only get popular selling drugs, guns etc..

Looks good.  A little more effort on marketing is needed, I think.

Yep that's the whole point of decentralized markets, they only make profits with drugs and guns selling which is really sad. Since a decentralized market would so usefull for more than drugs and guns selling. I hope Openbazzar  won't end up to be another of those dark markets.

I'm really excited about these markets and the impact they could have on not only bitcoin but e-commerce itself. Hope they can fix the bugs soon enough cos I'd love to have a play around on one.

It would have to be as easy and safe as ebay with lower fees. The last one is the only one crypto has in its favor atm.

I'm sure they will be all this and more once they get off the ground and all the kinks have been worked out.

OpenBazaar 0.4 is coming Wink

https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/321sx0/brace_yourselves_openbazaar_04_is_coming/

Quote
Previous betas have had difficulty connecting to the network without port forwarding, and also had problems with stability. This 0.4 beta moved to a rUDP network, which won't require port forwarding for most users, and it also is way more stable.

It also has quite a few new features, such as an internal messaging system for nodes that are online, switching over to HD keys for signing, and the ability for notaries to charge fees and send refunds to buyer or release payments to seller (in case of dispute or non-responsive party).

Edit: To be clear, there is still a lot of work to get to a full release, but this is the largest step forward we've taken so far.

More up-to-date stuff here:  https://np.reddit.com/r/OpenBazaar/
Great news. Who will be the first to test it out? Not me tho, don't wanna risk my small-time BTC stack Sad

I don't think that's true but at the moment there's not much demand for just an ebay-like site, but bitcoin and darknets go hand in hand and better/safer ones need to be developed which they currently are and I think it's an exciting prospect. Once they get going though the technology will obviously follow on to a legit ebay-style site but we'll probably have to wait until there's more demand for one.

When it goes live this year, MaidSafe will be the mother of all decentralization.
It's gonna be New Decentralized Internet.

Ethereum and storj will also be useful.

Since all of these things are open source, they will probably all work together at some point.

well i have one i did few months ago but with many problems,
i have tried everything, i have self posted photo of items, tried the sales button, tried registering 100 users in 1 hour, commented over 80 times myself, basically self comment.

since i dont have people to test it for me, i have been testing it myself. spent the last 48hours at home trying to make things work out but there are couple of problems.

1. cannot sign up unless you try post a comment on the front page (sucks i know)

2. i dont want to create a wallet ON the website for people to put their money in, its too risky.
so i am planning other wallets which will be used as escrow.

that is sellers can post their stuff , people who likes it, contact the moderators so that they contact the seller (its a long process but i am not able to cut down the process)

3. not able to push an escrow button. if you ask my, my own opinion, i find the checkout page very funny myself Cheesy but am not getting any help nor finance from anybody thus i manage with what i can.

4. buyers will send their payment to escrow, escrow takes 1% of the sales price + 2$ as fees. and keep the payment in their cold wallet, till the seller ships the item and the buyer confirms he received the item. (seller records a 20seconds video of him packing and posting along with a proof of shipment and buyer takes pictures before and after opening the parcel [[ to enable faster problem solving]])

5. should have a lot of other problems but i cant dont really know how to make things happen. i am very tired now and i have not slept for 2 days. to be honest i dont think i did so much during the 2 days either Sad

was trying to build a buying and selling website with maximum security.

already have 2 escrow from this forum itself in the line and they have cold wallets.

Good stuff but, even if they release a decentralized Silk Road... who is going to risk it? Even if it's decentralized, you could be buying directly from a govt guy or something, so no thanks.

If thousands of people are already buying and selling on the other centralized markets then why would they not buy from a decentralized one? If you buy from a person with trusted feedback then it's not going to be a fed unless they get turned at some point but the police don't really care about going after college kids buying an ounce of weed. They've got better things to do and bigger cats to catch.

Good stuff but, even if they release a decentralized Silk Road... who is going to risk it? Even if it's decentralized, you could be buying directly from a govt guy or something, so no thanks.

I will be buying and selling legal goods and services from there and have no shame in admitting such.

Me too. Support bitcoin and support decentralization (and also little to no fees hehe).

There is a reason people continue to return to dark markets to buy illegal services and goods... it is safer and easier than buying them in person. Decentralized marketplaces are a further step in safety by reducing or eliminating risks from the operators and/or hackers from victimizing the buyers. You are still exposed to risks from a sting operation but these can be mitigated.

Yes, I agree, try to minimize your exposure to state officials as they are very dangerous and often rely on coercion, kidnapping, torture, and murder to accomplish their goals. Avoid these people as much as possible whether they are affiliated with a state or just some local gang leader.
