Safemars: with a very extraordinary supply, I'm not saying Safemars is a scam, but you can see and judge for yourself by the supply provided, my thinking, bad decision to choose Safemars as an investment for now.

With the existing supply, you must be able to consider, feasible or not (investment).

Personally I really afraid to buy a little tokens like this project. But they sometime give huge profit like as gamble. So If you want to gamble then You can invest in it what you afford to lose must. So My suggestion is don't invest a big amount in such project. But yeah You can do invest 6-10 usd like you friend to do some fund and check your luck. LOL

And who ever goes on first will be rewarded when most of the folks have found it as an early token that can grow as the others. If you think that you're at the early stage of that token, you DYOR.

Buy if you think that you've done enough research for it and you're okay to risk any spare of your money.

My thoughts is you should have bought when your friend did, you can't be asking if it is safe to invest on a project that already pump up to 400+%, that's insane decision, I don't no anything about your safemars project but I do know that investing now is definitely not safe at all. If you must invest then wait for some correction before doing so.
I will say be careful with shitcoins, you can easily get rest in the process, hope you are aware of the supply of this token!
