EDIT: does it matter if 2.0 or 3.0 usb risers or cable?
Edit 2: Also froze on 5. Just opened a new riser and trying it.

Absolutely - all the cables have to be USB 3.  There are more lines (9 vs 4) and a much higher amp capactity - almost 1a vs 100ma.

18" and 24". I have found one bad riser card so far. Still having issues with the Mother board though. If i put it in slot 2 and 4 the pc freezes on boot. Still working on it.

The risers that I use are all USB 3.0 cables.

How long are your cables?  I've always wondered how long the USB cable could be.

These are the exact ones I use:

I haven't tried any longer, but really 3 feet should be more than enough.  Wink

Yup 3 feet is more than enough for me.  Just wondering because the cables that come with the risers are so short.  Thanks for the link too.

Ok. Great. Never thought of the usb cable being bad. Gonna try it now. Will post results in about an hour.

Edit: will be longer as i got busy at work.

I've encountered problems with the USB cables as well - at this point I just buy new cables for them all, not worth screwing with, and I like having the extra length.

Im going to try windows 7 but i think it has to be  a riser issue. I pulled the SSD with windows 10 and put it on a known working system. Started up detected all cards and installed all drivers perfect. Mining on that rig with no problems. Idk what the issue is but I even used Tytanics custom Linux OS and still didn't detect the cards. Wouldn't even start most of the time on that machine. I know the OS works because it works on my test rig 100%. So out of 9 rigs I have 7 of the running. Each should have 6 cards yet its like this:

Rig 1- 5 cards
Rig 2- 5 cards
Rig 3- 4 cards
Rig 4- 0 cards
Rig 5- 6 cards
Rig 6- 4 cards
Rig 7- 5 cards
Rig 8- 4 cards
Rig 9- 0 cards

total=33 cards out of 54 working. There is a lot of mining rewards that have been lost due to this issue. Where do you get your risers from? The first batch i got worked perfect but i did notice the design was a bit different on the last 36 i ordered. If its no riser problems then I dont know what to do. I have used 2 brand new BTC boards and 1 new H97. I have switched risers and cards out with no real luck. I had 5 cards up and running after the second Pro was put in unit ran for about 12 hours then crashed. After restart only detected 1 card. After playing around for about 4 hours deleting and installing drivers i anaged to have three cards as stated in another post. All the cards work as I can use one at a time and comes up every time. It seems as if the risers are OK but why not all at the same time. If it was windows issue then this other rig would have had problems. NO?

I've had tons of problems with crappy risers.  The last batch that I got I narrowed down to fault USB cables.  I don't know how you screw up a USB cable but they were all bad.  If you have the USB risers I would recommend moving the 6 USB cables from the 6 card working rig and put them into a 0 working card rig and see what happens.

Either that or start disconnecting cards from one of the other rigs to find out which card isn't being recognized and then swapping the riser one piece at a time from one that you know is working until you find the faulty part.

I am going to try windows 7. Been using 10 pro and my first couple of rigs were flawless. But the last two have been a real PIA. IDK what the issue is but i cannot get them detected under windows. I get one or two cards then loose them all. Damn the bad luck im having. Im not plugging anything in but it is showing to be  installed under windows(onboard that is). Got three cards up then lost them again. Maybe its the risers. Will be testing more. After 4 hours on one rig im tired and its bed time.

Use Windows 7. That's what I'm using and never got any single issue that I didn't know to manage. It's battle-hardened and the best OS ever.

How the hell do i disable the onboard graphics on the H97. The only setting i can find in the bios is to use pcie as the main. Every time windows starts there is that damn onboard starring at me. I swapped out boards yet again and my issues have only gotten worse. Trash man will be happy by morning because im putting everything in hefty sacks out by the road!!! FML  Huh  Undecided  Cry

You dont need to disable the on board graphics. Just dont plug a monitor into it. I'm not sure what your issue may be, but those Asrock boards just work for me everytime. Of course Im not on Windows either.

'The right to privacy matters'
F#@k  risers. Those boards are not really good.
I use a biostar z170   got it for 110 on sale at newegg.
Been mining with it since april.
I have used four nano on it now I use four rx 480's on it.
Slight under clock  about 550watts for the four cards and the board.
about 95-96mh and it just runs and runs and runs and runs.

Windows 7 pro and claymore software just doing ETH

I built this four card rig room is 84f

the secret is the spacers from the hdmi jacks  of the video cards they allow for air to reach the fans

infra red gun reads 43 to 49 c

hottest card is 72c   worst hasher is 22h as it is the one that drives the display

good temps see  cards 2 3 4 below  and 1 above

i doubt it does not come with two molex, yes you can do it with powered riser, but i don't like all those additional cable for the molex in my build, i'm sticking with standard risers

I don't care. All is so messy in my builds Roll Eyes. To tell you I use a CPU fan to cool my main GPU Cheesy !

I hope it works as well if not better. I have had so many issues with the PRO board. I ordered 2 Anniversary boards to replace NEW Pro boards that will not recognize my cards. I hope this fixes my issue or I may file bankruptcy soon!!  Undecided

I had no problem with my PRO BTC, but now, I can't order it anymore. Based on your comment I ordered one, thank you Smiley !

Both motherboards are from the same manufacturer and have the same 1x Pcie 16 + 5x Pcie 1x. Problem is that since it doesn't have its targeted use defined as mining like the PRO BTC, I don't know if it will hold the charge. Could you please tell me if it will work correctly ?
